Su Ling called out, but Liu Yu had already run in the direction of the east without looking back.

To prevent zombies from attacking from below, Su Ling quickly closed the windows. When she turned around, Gu Kai Xuan was nowhere to be seen.

"Kai Xuan?"

Su Ling hurriedly searched for Gu Kai Xuan and saw Sheng Hongye carrying the child from the second floor.

"What happened?"

Su Ling hesitated for a moment and pointed towards the east. "Liu Yu ran off and said some strange things."

Seeing the cloth strip behind Su Ling, Sheng Hongye's face darkened slightly.

"Let's not worry about him now. The zombies are acting abnormally today, as if they have a target in mind. Both of you, go to the control room and do not come downstairs, no matter what sounds you hear."

Then, in an incredibly eerie manner, he stood up, opened his drooling mouth, and pounced towards his companions.

Su Ling couldn't help but cover Gu Kai Xuan's eyes. The scene was too horrifying.

Next, there was a loud bang, and the massive iron door was actually knocked open by the zombies. The hordes of screaming zombies rushed in.

Lin Ye was standing at the door and didn't have time to evade. He was torn into countless pieces by the zombies.

The bloody scene made Su Ling scream in horror, and goosebumps instantly covered her body. She felt a chilling sensation.

Lin Ye was actually dead?

How did Liu Yu know about this?

Could it be that he had precognitive abilities? Or some sort of precognitive system?

If what he said was true, would the base be completely lost?

Just thinking about Liu Yu's words, "Many people will die in the base today," Su Ling felt like cold water was poured over her, chilling her to the core.

At this moment, another wave of chaos echoed through the surveillance feed. A large number of zombies poured in, and several bodies were instantly submerged in the sea of zombies.

"Ah! Brother Ye!"

Li Xueying ran excitedly to the monitor and started screaming again.

She saw Sheng Hongye being pinned down by a zombie, and the drooling mouth was about to bite his shoulder. However, Sheng Hongye kicked the zombie away, using the momentum to slide under the steps at the entrance.

"Quick, get inside the base!"

He shouted to everyone and kicked open the door.

Geng Hao scrambled and ran inside, but those who were still outside were torn into pieces by the zombies before they could enter.

Li Xueying screamed again, causing Su Ling's eardrums to ache. She pushed Li Xueying away and ran downstairs.

If the entrance of the base couldn't be held, they would all die.

When she reached the first floor, she found the situation was even more tragic than she had imagined. There were about forty people in the base, but now, including Geng Hao and Sheng Hongye, there were only six people left.

The group desperately held the door and shouted to Sheng Hongye, "Mr. Sheng, you go first. The zombies are probably at the main entrance. We will stay here to hold them back."

Sheng Hongye braced himself against the door, his veins bulging on his arms, and said in a deep voice, "No nonsense. If we go, we go together. If we die, we'll keep each other company on the road to the netherworld."

Sheng Hongye raised an eyebrow. At the moment when Su Ling's hands pressed against the door, he suddenly felt the pressure lessen. However, the small woman in front of him turned pale again, just like yesterday.

The others also looked at Su Ling in astonishment, and a silence fell, with only the sound of their breathing audible.

After an unknown amount of time, the banging sound from outside gradually quieted down.

Su Ling continued to mechanically shout "reinforce," but her body was on the verge of collapsing. Suddenly, she heard a crisp sound.

"System upgrade: success rate increased to ten percent. Reinforcement successful. Building defense increased by thirty percent. Endurance increased by thirty percent. Resistance to impact increased by thirty percent."

Su Ling was slightly startled. The system also had upgrades?

Then she felt weak and fell to the ground.

Sheng Hongye reached out and held Su Ling.

"Miss Su!"

Su Ling grabbed his arm and stood up.

"I'm fine."

Sheng Hongye still looked down at her, while Geng Hao suddenly said excitedly, "It seems like the zombies are retreating."

Everyone crouched at the door and listened for a while. One brave person pushed the door open.

Sure enough, the zombies were gone, and all the dozens of transformed zombies were gone too.

Sheng Hongye glanced at his watch; it was three o'clock in the afternoon.

He immediately said, "Hurry back and rest, replenish your energy. The zombies may come back tonight."

Everyone agreed and quickly dispersed, heading upstairs.

Sheng Hongye supported Su Ling and asked with concern, "Can you walk by yourself?"

"No problem."

Su Ling forced a smile. She had only reinforced the door and didn't deplete much energy, but she had been shouting for too long, causing a lack of oxygen to her brain.

"Then let's go upstairs and rest, and have something to eat."

Sheng Hongye said, embracing her waist, but Su Ling quickly pushed him away.

"I'm fine."

Then she remembered what Liu Yu had said.

"Liu Yu told me before he left that many people will die in the base today. He also said that if we go east, we can survive. What do you think he meant by that?"

Sheng Hongye stopped in his tracks. "Did he say that?"

Su Ling nodded and hesitated before saying, "I feel like... he seems to have some kind of precognitive ability."

Sheng Hongye's eyes deepened, and he asked in return, "Do you believe that all the supernatural abilities portrayed in movies are real?"

Su Ling raised her pale face to him and said, "Do you believe that the apocalypse is real?"
