Reborn in the Post-Apocalyptic World: Building Infrastructure

Chapter 4: Mr. Sheng, the Prominent Business Tycoon

The sudden turn of events left Su Ling with her mouth slightly agape.

Su Rou and Wei Zixuan were equally stunned, their eyes almost popping out.

Jiang Laosi, renowned in Donghai, was actually speaking so humbly to someone else? Can this be real?

The man nodded and calmly said, "I was planning to return to Donghai, but it seems I can't go back now."

Jiang Laosi showed no sign of hostility, acting as meek as a puppy, bowing and saying, "Indeed, something has happened in Donghai, and it seems we can't return for now. May I ask, Mr. Sheng, where do you plan to go?"

Wei Zixuan could no longer hold back and stomped on the roof of Su Ling's car.

"Fourth Brother, who the hell is he?"

Jiang Laosi's expression darkened. "Show some respect and call him Mr. Sheng."

Wei Zixuan sneered and spat, "Even if he's powerful, what can he do when Donghai is gone?"

"You shut your damn mouth."

Jiang Laosi's eyes turned cold, and he punched Wei Zixuan to the ground.

Seeing Jiang Laosi's sudden fierceness, Su Ling suddenly thought of someone.

Sheng Hongye, a prominent figure in Donghai's business circles.

It was said that this person was young, wealthy, and mysterious. Few had seen his true appearance, and no one knew exactly how many industries he owned. Su Ling, however, knew that all of Tianfu Hospitals in China belonged to him...

Could it be... he was the legendary man?

"I'll accompany this lady to Lizhou," the man spoke again.

From beginning to end, he didn't even spare a glance at Wei Zixuan, as if he were air.

Jiang Laosi glanced at Su Ling, seemingly puzzled as to why she was with the man, but he still bowed his head and said, "Alright, we'll escort Mr. Sheng there. Wei Zixuan, move the car."

The man said calmly, "No need. I have other matters to attend to in Lizhou."

A hint of disappointment appeared in Jiang Laosi's eyes, but he still respectfully said, "If there's anything Mr. Sheng needs my help with, feel free to ask."

The man nodded, then returned to the car.

Wei Zixuan, bleeding from his nose, didn't dare to make a peep and obediently moved the car away.

"Let's go."

The man picked up the child again.

Su Ling nodded and pressed down on the accelerator. The car shot forward like an arrow into the dark night.

After driving for a while, she couldn't help but ask, "May I know Mr. Sheng's full name?"

The little boy immediately hugged the man's neck and proudly said, "My uncle's name is Sheng Hongye, and I'm Gu Kai Xuan. Auntie, what's your name?"

Wow, it really is Sheng Hongye! Su Ling's pupils contracted.

She hadn't expected someone with such influence to be sitting in her little beat-up Passat.

If it weren't for the apocalypse, Su Ling would definitely scream in astonishment.

Sheng Hongye, however, remained indifferent, as if the name meant nothing to him.

Su Ling let out a deep sigh to calm herself, and then she smiled, "Auntie's surname is Su, and my name is Su Ling."

Sheng Hongye glanced at her and asked, inquisitively, "Miss Su, do you have friends in Lizhou?"

"No," Su Ling replied.

Sheng Hongye raised an eyebrow. "If you don't have friends there, how do you know there's a refuge in Lizhou?"

"Uh..." Su Ling couldn't help but break into a sweat. The question was too sharp, and she didn't know how to answer without revealing that she had been reborn.

Her eyes fell on the mobile phone in Gu Kai Xuan's hands, and she immediately said, "I saw it on Weibo."

Gu Kai Xuan asked eagerly, "Auntie, do you have Weibo? I can follow you!"

Su Ling chuckled and said, "I don't have one, I just check it occasionally."

Gu Kai Xuan looked a bit disappointed but still pressed the phone open.

Then, he exclaimed in surprise, "Uncle, why is there no network?"

Sheng Hongye glanced at the phone, and indeed, it showed no network connection.

He took out his own phone, which also displayed the message "Out of service area."

Su Ling heard it clearly, and her delicate eyebrows furrowed slightly.

Having seen many apocalyptic movies, like the famous "I Am Legend," she knew that communication devices malfunctioning was only a matter of time. However, she didn't expect it to happen so quickly.

Gu Kai Xuan asked in a tender voice, "Uncle, are we going to Lizhou to find grandma?"

Sheng Hongye grunted in response, his mood clearly not pleasant.

Hearing that Sheng Hongye's mother was also in Lizhou, Su Ling felt a little uplifted.

In this dangerous apocalyptic world, having someone by her side was much more comforting than wandering alone.

She suddenly stepped on the accelerator, and the car sped up to its maximum speed.

Gu Kai Xuan couldn't help but exclaim with excitement, "Uncle, Auntie's car is so amazing! It's even better than your Maserati... Ouch..."

Gu Kai Xuan had only exclaimed halfway when he suddenly clutched his stomach.

"What's wrong?" Su Ling asked immediately, feeling nervous.

Gu Kai Xuan's eyes turned red instantly, and he weakly said, "Auntie, my stomach hurts."

Su Ling quickly slowed down the car.

"Do you need to use the restroom?"

"No."

Gu Kai Xuan shook his head and suddenly retched.

Su Ling's expression changed. Could things be this unlucky?

It was clearly a symptom of appendicitis!

Sheng Hongye seemed unsure how to comfort children and appeared somewhat helpless.

"Kai Xuan, can you bear with it for a while?"

Gu Kai Xuan grabbed Sheng Hongye's big hand, his delicate features twisted in pain.

"I can, but it really hurts."

Su Ling was a surgeon, well aware of the seriousness of a perforated appendix. She immediately stopped the car.

"It might be appendicitis. Mr. Sheng, I'm a surgeon. Let me take a look at the child."

"Okay."

Sheng Hongye quickly made space and laid Gu Kai Xuan down on the seat.

Su Ling approached and gently touched his little belly, her eyebrows furrowing tighter and tighter.

The child's abdomen had a hard lump about half a finger's length, and even a slight touch caused him great pain.

"How is it?" Sheng Hongye's voice sounded urgent, and his facial expression hardened a bit.

Su Ling looked up. "He needs surgery immediately."

Sheng Hongye pondered for a moment and said, "There's a small town nearby. We can go there. It shouldn't take more than ten minutes to get there."

"Okay."

Ten minutes later, the sedan rushed into the small town.

Sheng Hongye seemed familiar with the place and directed Su Ling to the hospital.

Su Ling glanced up and was surprised to see Tianfu Hospital.

No wonder he knew the way so well.

The three of them rushed into the hospital, and they were met by a man wearing a security uniform, descending the stairs in an awkward posture.

His neck was crooked, his face and body covered in blood, emitting a strong, putrid smell.

A pair of eyes gleamed with a wild, beast-like green light.

Thinking of the zombies that had torn her apart in her previous life, Su Ling's heart tightened.

"It's a zombie. It seems this place has also been infected," she said.

As the security guard lunged at Sheng Hongye, he was kicked away by Sheng Hongye. The guard struggled on the ground, then shook his neck and stood up in a horrifying manner.

Meanwhile, the sound of footsteps approached.

Over a dozen people emerged from both sides of the corridor.

Some were wearing white coats, and others were in patient gowns, but the only common feature they had were those bloodthirsty, green glowing eyes.
