RWBY: Oscar the gamer

Chapter 5: Where to Now?

Oscar was shown running, completing his daily tasks with a determined focus. His feet pounded against the earth, the sun hanging low in the sky. After a long day of chores and work, he paused, taking a deep breath as he stopped to catch his breath. With a smirk on his face, he glanced at the blue box in his vision, the system ever present in his mind.

Ding!

[All daily tasks have been completed. Host, do you wish to view your current stats and progress?]

Oscar raised an eyebrow and chuckled. "Yeah, sure. Give it to me, System."

He spoke to the blue box as if it were a companion, a strange yet comforting habit that had formed over the past few days. Though it wasn't alive, the system had become a reliable partner on his journey. It wasn't just a tool; it was a presence in his life.

As the system's interface appeared in front of him, a series of options and stats were laid out in front of him, glowing in the familiar blue hue. His eyes quickly scanned through the details, noting the recent changes.

[ Name: Oscar

Level: 15

HP: 100%

Stamina: 100%

Mana: 85%

Class: Hybrid (Monster Way)

Experience: 4200/5000

Skill Points: 8

Abilities Unlocked: Poison Immunity, Skill Tree Access

Quests Completed: 15

Current Tasks: None (Daily Completed) ]

Oscar grinned, seeing the steady progress. Level 15 wasn't a massive leap, but it was progress nonetheless. His ability to level up through daily tasks and defeating enemies had become more efficient, and he felt stronger with every passing day.

"Not bad," he murmured, running his finger over the screen to see further details.

[ Active Skills:

Poison Immunity (Passive)

Basic Swordsmanship (Level 3)

Enhanced Agility (Level 2)

Available Skill Tree Branches:

Combat: 3 points

Magic: 2 points

Survival: 1 point ]

Oscar paused for a moment, contemplating. He had been trying to balance his focus between combat and magic, but with the Monster Way path now fully unlocked, his options were expanding. The new abilities and skills offered by his transformation were becoming more enticing by the day.

He could feel the Grimm human hybrid transformation hovering just out of reach, waiting for him to hit level 25. Every moment spent now was another step closer to unlocking that power.

"Combat or magic?" Oscar mused aloud to the system. "It's time to decide."

[ Remember, Host, each branch serves a purpose. Combat will enhance your physical prowess and mastery over weapons, while Magic will unlock devastating spells and augment your combat effectiveness. Survival focuses on stamina and recovery. Choose wisely ]

Oscar nodded, acknowledging the advice. He had always leaned toward combat in the past, but the allure of magic was powerful. A combination of both seemed like a great way to balance his raw strength with flexibility.

"Let's put a point in Magic and two points in Combat," Oscar decided. "I'll need to be a well-rounded fighter when facing those stronger enemies ahead."

With a few taps on the system's interface, the skills were updated.

[ New Skills Unlocked:

Fireball (Level 1) - A basic fireball spell that deals moderate damage.

Swordmastery (Level 4) - Increases damage dealt with swords and improves technique ]

Oscar felt a spark of excitement as the skills unlocked. He could almost feel the surge of power as the knowledge of the new abilities settled into his mind. With his sword in hand, he could already picture himself wielding the flame as easily as any weapon.

"So, what's next, System?" he asked, eager to see what more lay in store.

[ Host, you have several options. You can venture into new territory and fight stronger enemies for more experience. Alternatively, you can begin your training in the newly unlocked abilities to get more accustomed to them. There is also a dungeon nearby that may hold valuable rewards. The choice is yours. ]

Oscar thought about his options. The dungeon sounded tempting, especially with the potential rewards and the chance to level up faster. But a part of him also wanted to test out his new abilities, to push his limits.

After a moment of deliberation, he grinned, ready to take the next step.

"Let's head for the dungeon," he said, his tone resolute. "But first, let's see if I can make some new gear. Can't hurt to be prepared."

Oscar made his way to the workshop, preparing for the next phase of his journey. The dungeon awaited, but with each decision, he could feel himself growing closer to his true potential. Whether he became a hero or a monster, his destiny was now in his hands.

With each new skill, each new challenge, the world seemed to open up in front of him. What adventures awaited him beyond the dungeon gates? Only time would tell.

Oscar entered the workshop on the farm, his boots clicking softly against the concrete floor. The room was cluttered with tools, spare parts, and unfinished projects, a haven for someone who liked to work with their hands. He had a goal in mind—to fix a few things around the farm that had been causing trouble. As he surveyed the workshop, his eyes landed on the broken-down tractor in the corner.

The old machine had been a source of constant frustration, breaking down far too often for Oscar's liking. It looked like it had seen better days, the paint chipped and rust clinging to its frame. Despite multiple repairs, the tractor seemed determined to stay out of commission.

Oscar sighed, scratching his head as he approached the battered vehicle. "Why do you keep breaking down?" he muttered, almost as if the tractor could answer him. His gaze lingered on its engine, an idea forming in his mind.

"Hey, System," he said aloud, the blue box instantly flickering to life in front of him. "Can I tinker with this thing? Maybe fix it for good this time?"

Ding!

[Yes, Host. You can tinker with the tractor and even fix it. Doing so will grant you +1 to your Intelligence. Reading books or engaging in activities that improve your understanding of machinery, science, or strategy will also increase your Intelligence stat.]

[Would you like assistance or tips while working on the repair?]

Oscar grinned, rubbing his hands together. "I'll manage on my own for now. Let me see what I can do."

The system's offer was tempting, but he wanted to test himself first. This was as much a challenge as it was an opportunity to learn and grow. He grabbed a toolbox from the nearby shelf, opening it to reveal an assortment of wrenches, screwdrivers, and other tools.

Pulling off the tractor's front panel, Oscar inspected the engine. It was a mess of worn-out parts and makeshift repairs, some of which looked downright dangerous. "No wonder this thing keeps breaking," he muttered.

He started by removing the damaged parts, carefully setting them aside. As he worked, he began to feel a rhythm, the process oddly satisfying. Every bolt he unscrewed and every piece he examined added to his understanding of the machine.

Ding!

[Intelligence +0.2]

Oscar paused, wiping the sweat from his forehead. "Huh, so I can gain progress mid-task. That's neat."

After a few hours of tinkering, he had replaced several components and reinforced weak points in the engine. The system chimed in occasionally with subtle hints, though he only asked for help when truly stuck. By the time he finished, the tractor looked almost new, its engine humming smoothly during a test run.

Ding!

[Task Complete: Tractor Repair]

[Intelligence +1]

[Skill Unlocked: Basic Mechanics (Level 1)]

Oscar couldn't help but smile as he wiped his greasy hands on a rag. "Not bad for my first try. Maybe I've got a knack for this."

He leaned back against the workbench, feeling a sense of accomplishment. The system chimed again, catching his attention.

[Host, engaging in tasks like this regularly can unlock specialized skills and blueprints. Would you like to add tinkering to your daily tasks?]

Oscar nodded thoughtfully. "Yeah, why not? If it helps me grow, I'm all in."

As he left the workshop, he couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning. With the tractor running smoothly and a new skill in his arsenal, he felt ready to tackle whatever challenges lay ahead.

The path forward was becoming clearer. Now, it was time to see what else he could fix—not just machines, but himself, his life, and maybe even the world.

Oscar walked out of the workshop, the cool evening breeze hitting his face as the sun dipped below the horizon. The faint hum of the newly repaired tractor followed him, a reminder of the progress he had made today. He felt a strange sense of fulfillment, not just from fixing the machine, but from proving to himself that he could learn and grow.

He glanced at the faint glow of his system interface hovering in the corner of his vision. "Alright, System. What's next?"

[Host has several options to choose from:

1. Explore more complex repairs and unlock advanced mechanical skills.

2. Begin studying books or learning new subjects to expand your Intelligence further.

3. Take on a new mission to test your abilities in the field.

4. Focus on physical training to improve Strength and Agility stats.]

Oscar crossed his arms, considering his options. Each path had its own appeal. Fixing things was satisfying, but he couldn't ignore the bigger picture. If he was going to survive and thrive in this world, he'd need more than just technical skills.

"System, what kind of missions are we talking about?"

[Examples of available missions:

Assist a neighbor with a mechanical issue (+1 Intelligence, +1 Charisma).

Help clear debris from a nearby field (+2 Strength, +1 Stamina).

Investigate rumors of a strange phenomenon in the woods (+1 Perception, +1 Courage).]

Oscar raised an eyebrow at the last option. "Strange phenomenon? That sounds... interesting. What's the deal with that?"

[There have been reports of unusual lights and sounds coming from the forest at night. Locals believe it to be a natural occurrence, but there is a 78% chance of it being something more. Investigating could yield unique rewards and unlock hidden quests.]

Oscar's curiosity was piqued. He'd always been drawn to mysteries, and the thought of discovering something out of the ordinary was too tempting to pass up.

"Alright," he said, a grin spreading across his face. "Let's check it out. Give me the details."

[Mission Accepted: "Echoes in the Woods." Objective: Investigate the strange phenomenon in the forest and uncover its source. Rewards: +1 Perception, +1 Courage, bonus rewards based on findings.]

As the system finalized the mission, Oscar made his way back to the house. He packed a small bag with essentials—a flashlight, a water bottle, some snacks, and a sturdy wrench for self-defense. The forest wasn't far, but he wanted to be prepared for anything.

The sun had fully set by the time he reached the edge of the woods. Shadows stretched long across the ground, and the air was filled with the sounds of rustling leaves and distant animal calls. Oscar tightened his grip on the flashlight and stepped into the forest.

The deeper he went, the quieter it became, as if the woods were holding their breath. The path ahead was barely visible, illuminated only by the pale beam of his flashlight. He kept his ears open, listening for anything out of the ordinary.

Then, he heard it—a faint, melodic hum, almost like singing, coming from deeper within the forest. The sound was strange yet oddly beautiful, and it sent a shiver down his spine.

"What the hell is that?" he muttered, quickening his pace.

As he approached the source of the sound, the trees seemed to thin out, revealing a small clearing bathed in an ethereal glow. In the center of the clearing stood a large, ancient-looking stone covered in strange markings that seemed to pulse with light.

Oscar felt his system chime softly.

[Analysis Complete: Object identified as a Rune Stone. This artifact contains traces of energy that could enhance Host's abilities. Interaction recommended, but caution advised.]

Oscar took a cautious step forward, his heart pounding in his chest. This was no ordinary repair job—this was something far beyond anything he had encountered before.

"Alright, System," he whispered, his eyes locked on the glowing stone. "Let's see what this is all about."

He reached out a hand, the light from the stone growing brighter as he made contact.

Oscar then felt something, as then looked at the system

Ding!

[ Host, Blood lust detected ]

Oscar jumped out of the way, as he pulled out his sword from his Inventory, as then he saw it, it was a Grimm, it looked like that do a wolf but it was more of something someone will see in there nightmares as it looked like a wendigo

Oscar just spoked in his mind. "Oh fuck, how high level is this system".

[ Host your current level is 15, as for the wendigo ]

[ The Wendigo Grimm is level 25, significantly stronger than your current level. Exercise caution, Host. ]

Oscar's grip tightened on his sword as he analyzed the situation. The Wendigo Grimm snarled, its jagged teeth glinting in the dim light, its twisted form a grotesque mix of bone and shadow.

"Great, just my luck," Oscar muttered under his breath. "A level 25 monster when I just started getting used to this whole system thing."

The Grimm lunged forward with a speed Oscar barely had time to react to. He rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding the swipe of its claws, which left deep gashes in the ground.

[ Host, defeating enemies of a higher level can grant significant rewards, but survival must be your priority. ]

"Yeah, thanks for the tip," Oscar said sarcastically as he steadied himself. His eyes darted around, looking for any potential advantage.

The Wendigo charged again, and this time, Oscar was ready. He raised his sword, channeling every ounce of focus into parrying the beast's attack. The impact sent a shockwave through his arms, but he held his ground.

[ Suggestion: Utilize environment and tactics to gain an edge. Direct confrontation is not advised. ]

Oscar glanced around the clearing, spotting a few loose boulders and a slope nearby. "Alright, let's see if we can outsmart this thing."

He darted toward the slope, the Wendigo hot on his heels. With a quick swing of his sword, he struck a nearby tree, causing branches to fall and momentarily distract the beast.

"Come on, ugly, follow me!" Oscar taunted, leading the Grimm toward the edge of the slope. As the creature lunged again, Oscar sidestepped at the last moment, using its momentum against it.

The Wendigo tumbled down the slope, crashing into rocks and debris.

[ Critical damage inflicted. The Wendigo Grimm's health has dropped by 40%. ]

Oscar smirked. "Not so tough now, huh?"

But his victory was short-lived. The Grimm clawed its way back up, its rage even more palpable.

"Guess we're not done yet," Oscar muttered, gripping his sword and preparing for the next round.
