Chapter 9
“Wait, we need to inform Duke Squall before leaving.”
The butler tried to stop me, but I had no intention of listening.
“All the maids and butlers here, do as you please. This place is not safe. I won’t return, at least not until the situation is resolved. I also refuse any further treatment.”
“Oh no! This is troublesome. Princess Yuris will be visiting tomorrow. At least allow her to be examined!”
The butler pleaded with an anxious expression.
“I didn’t hear about that before. Besides, we can’t bring Princess Yuris to a place where there was an attack.”
It annoyed me that the butler didn’t inform me about tomorrow’s plan.
In the first place, why is this guy unharmed?
Isn’t it the butler’s duty to handle guests?
If he got injured during the attack, I might understand. But he’s completely unscathed.
And what about the mansion’s security?
The more I thought about it, the more the butler seemed suspicious.
“Well, fine. You can stay here or go back to Duke Squall’s place. Of course, you can also go back to Marquis Cactus’ place!”
I taunted the butler, and his expression suddenly changed.
The maid also understood everything from the butler’s expression.
The butler had betrayed us.
“I see. That’s the answer then. If that’s the case, I don’t need to worry. Goodbye.”
“Wait! Please take us with you too!”
The maids said that to me, but…
“Sorry, I can’t trust anyone right now. If you haven’t betrayed us, go to Duke Squall and tell him the truth. That’s all I’ll say.”
I left the mansion with Salina.
“Are you sure about this?”
Salina seemed concerned about the remaining maids.
“Yeah, I don’t know who to trust right now. Even if we go to a safe place, we might get betrayed. Let’s stay somewhere we can at least believe in for tonight.”
I called for an armored vehicle.
“Come inside. It’s cramped, but get in.”
Salina entered the vehicle. Inside, there was a bench seat at the rear.
“I’m sorry it’s small, but please sleep here tonight.”
“Yes.”
I drove the vehicle and headed for the town square. Even though it was night, it was the middle of the town, and it should be hard to get attacked. Besides, it was an armored vehicle and not easy to break open.
That night, I slept in the driver’s seat.
The next morning, people gathered around the vehicle.
“Yoshinobu-sama, there are people around us.”
“Yeah, I know. Let’s move a little.”
I slowly started driving.
And we left for the outskirts of the town.
Then, I prepared breakfast.
“Um, I’ll help too.”
Sarina offered to help. But all I did was warm up some retort pouches.
“Oh, I’m actually good at cooking.”
She looked at me with a bitter expression.
“Sorry, but it’s easy, and we don’t have any other ingredients. Can you make it next time?”
“Understood, I will definitely make it for you!”
We made that promise, and then we eat breakfast.
The menu was mixed rice with hamburger and wakame soup.
“It’s delicious. I’ve never tasted anything like this before. What seasoning did you use for this rice?”
Salina seemed unfamiliar with soy sauce.
After finishing breakfast, Alex arrived with some soldiers.
“Mister Yoshinobu, are you here?”
“Duke Alex, one of the butlers you arranged, has betrayed us. Can I ask you something? Are you the one who gave the order?”
“I swear on my family’s name, I didn’t do anything like that. But it was indeed my fault for the butler I prepared, ended up betraying you. Please accept my apology.”
I got out of the armored vehicle.
“Alex-sama, I will trust you. However, it seems that I have a conflict with Marquis Cactus. I’m planning to leave the capital.”
“Wa-wait, could you at least examine Princess Yuris?”
Alex showed a troubled expression.
“… I understand. However, for safety reasons, can we do the examination at your mansion?”
“Of course. I will put up the perfect security for the examination.”
I headed to Duke Squall’s residence while staying in the armored vehicle.
I set up a treatment facility in the mansion’s garden, waiting for Princess Yuris.
