Chapter 10: Full Disclosure
The training yard was quickly becoming one of Jason's favourite places at Beacon; With the simulation chamber that Port had requested to be implemented into the training halls and Jason's help from both Lil Brain's mind and from Titan's brawn to help get it all pieced together earned him some extra brownie points when it came to showing Ozpin and Goodwitch that he had better control now and the worry was lessened.
For this particular instance of training, Jason was trying to branch out his own abilities and was currently testing out one of his new forms with Yang. This form was what he liked to call King Coffin.
This particularly unassuming form appeared as a greyish-brown and covered practically head to toe in ragged bandages, with more layers being visible and the tendrils on his back being much shorter. His headdress is black with two glowing green gaps on either side of it and a gold rimming at the bottom. His orange eyes were tipped with golden spikes and his lower face is wrapped in bandages like a facemask. His upper chest and shoulders were covered by a large collar/wrap-like garment with orange and black stripes to go along with black-and-gold pads on each shoulder, with each one having a green unblinking eye on them. The ties on his kilt/loincloth are replaced by a single bandage. His braces and greaves now have gold trimmings and two larger glowing orange gaps on them. He wears the Watch's symbol on a green and white belt around his waist. "So Yang, how's this for changing up?" He would ask with a chuckle and made the bandages around him flutter.
Yang was honestly a little flabbergasted as she watched the boy that she had been impressed with become a literal bundle of rags; "You sure that this thing is a good use in a fight? I feel like I could punch through it like a wet napkin." She mentioned with a rather blunt outlook as she watched King Coffin ripple in the air; "Seriously, you look like a Halloween decoration…Though I could give you props for hyping up Ruby since that's when her birthday is." She teased him and got Ember Celica ready for what she believed to be the easiest fight that she could've hoped for.
"Alright then, if you're so gung ho about it being easy, then you should be able to knock me out no problem." KC remarked with a sly looking smirk on his face, "Or I bet I could pin you real easy."
"You wanna make a bet on it? Okay then Raggy Man, what's the catch?" Yang asked him with a smirk as she started to get more invested.
"Okay,if either of us win; we owe each other a favour." KC smirked as he made his stance ready.
"A favour, really? That's what you could come up with? Alright, then how about this? if and when I win then you have to treat me to a night out at a club! No questions asked and no telling anyone, especially not the teachers or Ruby." Yang decided to give off her terms as she rushed forward to swing some jabs at the clothy clobberer.
KC was moving like a fluid as the bandages shifted back and forth like they were alive to make him duck and dodge under Yang's aggressive approach before swiping a stretched arm at her before splaying it outward to sweep her away.
Yang rolled under the swipe and then made for a direct jab for his mask since it made for a very obvious target to punch, not to mention the fact that his bobbing and weaving was annoying since she couldn't hit him. "Hold. Still!" She yelled at him in annoyance.
"Sorry Yang, but I never said that I'd make it easy for you." KC responded with a rather smug sounding voice as he then shot a hand forward into strands of bandages to tie up Yang's arms. "See? Told you it could work."
Yang grunted and tried to break free; "How are these so strong?!" She then rushed forward to try kicking him but KC simply used his other hand to grab her leg and topple her to the ground as she struggled to break free of this impromptu hogtie.
"Give up yet? Because I can do this all day." KC smirked as he watched Yang squirm about but got a little nervous when he saw her use her Semblance and began to use all he could to keep her down.
"Make me! I'm not stopping until I win that bet!" Yang yelled back at him as she thrashed and struggled; Despite the fact that she was waist deep in her annoyed frustration, she had started to notice that King Coffin was currently holding the upper hand on her with the bandages alone along with the fact that somewhere deep down, the fact that she was captured so tightly was kind of intriguing for her.
"Then I ain't letting go until I hear you cry out uncle." KC smirked as he then realised that her semblance was making it harder and harder to hold so he began using two arms of bandages to hold her. "Sheesh, I knew Yang could be strong but King Coffin's struggling to hold her down….I'm gonna need what I can to make her tap out." He thought to himself but was brought out of his attention when he heard someone opening up the door.
"Yang, are you still training down here? It's coming up to closing and y-Gasp!" Weiss's voice was heard and suddenly everyone's attention seemed to be on him.
KC looked around and saw Blake and Weiss coming in to check on Yang along with Pyrrha and Nora wanted to see if he was around. Suffice to say he was about to mention how it wasn't what it looked like but it seemed that the cosmos was far from kind.
"MNCLE! MHI FFAID MNCLE!" Yang muffled into her what looked like a bandage gag; During the ensuing detainment, KC's bandages had moved around her to better hold her since the blonde would have most likely broken free with enough bucking. It was hard to see but her forearms were tied in parallel high behind Yang's back and ended up making her chest stick out that little bit more. The bandages criss-crossed and held her arms together along with tying up her legs; they were bound up so her ankles were crossed and hovering just over her buttocks.
"Jason, what in the world are you doing?!" Weiss yelled at King Coffin and knocked him out of his funk…Along with his form as he turned back to his regular state.
"Jeez! Where'd you come from?! I was sparring with Yang and using my King Coffin Form to test out a Detainment in a fight." Jason tried to explain once he realised what had happened and once he got his pulse down to a regular heart rate.
"Looks to me like you were trussing her up like a hog." Nora said with a grin as she now had something to tease him about or blackmail him about since she could see the bright red tint in his cheeks.
Yang smirked as she spun around and hit him with a hook to knock him down; "HA! Gotcha! Bet's a bet, Moss so you owe me!" She yelled triumphantly, though she was thankful that her back was turned so no one could actually see the bright flush that came from her….prior position.
"That…Still doesn't really answer the question, what exactly was that?" Pyrrha asked as she wiped some blood from her nose along with trying to put less focus on the fact that Jason had one of the strongest girls in Beacon pinned in the most unconventional and kind of hot way that she could imagine.
"I believe that's called a Reverse Shrimp Tie…I gotta admit, it's more detailed than what I expected for someone like him." Blake mentioned with a slight smirk though she too sported a small tint of pink in her cheeks. "Though I have to say…I gotta ask him about how he made it that tight and fluid without much effort…"
"No…I meant about that mummy thing." Pyrrha stammered as she tried to get back on track; despite her determination to focus, she couldn't help but imagine that it was her all tied up like that instead of Yang.
Jason sat up with a groan as he rubbed his sore cheek; "That was King Coffin, he's a Mummy Man so I can make tons of strong bandages to fight." He explained as Yang stretched herself out; "Though I'm not sure why they did what they did earlier, I control them with my mind so all I really wanted to was pin her to win the match." Jason mentioned honestly.
Weiss was the first one to talk on it since a lot of the others were still hung up on the fact that Jason could basically become danger confetti; "Perhaps they acted on reflex if you can control them mentally? Yang is incredibly strong and just as stubborn so maybe they just…improvised?"
"That makes the most sense; If you're trying to hold down a struggling opponent then you need to think on the fly." Blake added as she watched Jason curiously; "So, are there any other forms that we need to worry about you getting freaky with?" She asked with a coy smirk since she was momentarily distracted from her worries of the White Fang because of this.
"I uh…never actually thought about it like that…" Jason admitted honestly; "What is with them? I didn't even intend for that to happen in the first place!" He thought though he noticed that they weren't exactly holding it against him for doing so.
"Well, regardless…Glynda will be locking this place up soon so we should probably get going before we get into trouble." Ren pointed out as the others seem to be a little too distracted to mention since they've began badgering Jason to show him other weird stuff.
Though something still bugged him about the whole thing with what happened at the docks and with how quickly Torchwick ditched him in spite of everything that he had done including the stolen money. "Sure there was Penny and her swords but for him losing that big amount of money he complained about…He seemed to back off easy…" Jason thought to himself as he wandered back to the dorms by himself and then glanced to his watch, though it was thanks to Torchwick's pettiness and desire for payback that he got this feature of the watch.
"We may never BE ready! Something is out there planning the next move and I don't know what it is but it's coming!" Jason heard Blake through the door as she had an outburst to everyone. "Yes, we may have stopped them now but for how long?! We don't know if they have any other tricks up their sleeves and the White Fang NEVER stop until they have completed what they're working for."
Jason mused on this; He had a prime chance to do some good without having to worry about being out in the open like when they went looking for the cat girl. "Okay, I got a couple of choices; Either I freeball this one and risk getting caught by someone in town or by them if Team RWBY decides to, The second option is that I can talk to Ruby and the others about seeing if I can help; worst case scenario I end up getting turned down but I'm pretty sure they can use the help…" He thought to himself before reaching up to knock on the door.
The girls looked confused at first but they seemed a little pleased to see him; "Hey Jason, what's up?" Ruby asked as she was about to rush out when the door knocked.
"You guys were talking about Torchwick so I figured I want in." Jason mentioned honestly; Though admitting this earned him a suspicious look or at least an annoyed one.
"You've been eavesdropping? For how long?!" Weiss snapped since she didn't like the idea of people listening in on her.
"You guys were pretty loud and the dorms aren't soundproof…Well, that and my hearing's pretty good." Jason chuckled; "But my offer still stands, if we're going after Torchwick and the White Fang about what happened then I want in."
"Look J, I get that you might wanna rush in and help but this is something we need to deal with on our own…As a team." Blake pointed out and crossed her arms as she realised that she was probably the loudest earlier.
"Come on, this kind of thing is perfect for getting friends involved!" Sun pitched in as he sat on a tree branch by the window. "Sup!"
"Sun…How long have you been there?" Yang asked him with a warning tone; "Because as far as I remember; peeking through people's windows and snooping is a felony."
Sun laughed a little; "Oh come on, it's not that big a deal; I climb trees all the time…Plus you guys aren't exactly quiet." He pointed out as Blake looked away in embarrassment.
"Besides, if you look at it this way; We now have enough for everyone to split up two by two." Jason added as he looked to Ruby; "Have you got a plan?"
She nodded before explaining about how Weiss and her were going to the CCT Tower so that they can check the recent Dust robberies and the SDC's records, Blake was going to eavesdrop on a White Fang faction meeting to see where and when they were planning to go next.
Yang however had a more up front idea; "I know someone in Vale who has the dirt on just about anything going on; I think I've got this…And you coming with me~" She remarked and grabbed Jason by the arm.
"Yang, you can't just call dibs! I haven't even decided who goes with who yet…" Ruby pouted as she watched Yang essentially latch on to the boy.
"Well, I can always take Sun." Blake mentioned; "He's a Faunus too so getting into the meeting will be less of a problem."
"Well, what if Ruby goes along with you and I can go with Jason to the library instead of the Tower…" Weiss decided to give her input since she figured Yang's task wasn't as hard as she made it seem.
"Absolutely not, where I'm going is the deepest, most dangerous part of town where you could get mugged or pickpocketed." Yang pointed out which seemed to make Weiss shrink in reconsideration; "Besides, you and Ruby are friends now so why not take the time together and hang out?"
After some arguing and a fair amount of bargaining between them, Ruby finally came up with a plan; "Okay, Yang goes with Jason, I go with Weiss to the Tower and Blake goes with Sun, are we all good now?" She asked as the others nodded and split off to go undertake each task assigned to them, leaving Jason and Yang alone; "Make sure that she actually does what she needs to."
"Aw, come on…You know I can get stuff done, Ruby." Yang playfully winced and acted like Ruby wounded her; "Besides, I'm probably gonna be trying to make sure this guy doesn't end up getting mugged or snatched up." Little did she know that her assumption was a little closer in a way she hadn't imagined. "C'mon, we can take my bike there." She remarked and lightly slapped Jason's back.
"Wouldn't it be easier to use Speedfreak and I meet you there?" Jason asked as he started walking with her to the gates where Yang had parked her bike; "I can move faster and it'll be easier for us to get around without alerting people."
Yang looked at him with a raised eyebrow as she pulled on her helmet; "Really, so how are you gonna get there if you don't even know where we're goin'?" She asked and rolled out the bike towards the road; "You can spend one ride without having to turn into your other forms right? Why not take the time to cruise? Or would you really pass up the chance to get your arms around me~?" She further teased as she put her leg over her bike to start it up.
Jason grumbled in embarrassment as he climbed on the back and strapped a helmet on; "Lead the way, Yangarang!" He called out before gripping tight as she kicked the bike into high gear.
—Meanwhile—
"So, what do I owe the General and Headmaster of Atlas Academy? I'd have thought you would be busy with preparations for the Festival." Ozpin quizzed politely as he passed a mug of coffee to James Ironwood who was sat before him.
"I would but there were some things that I needed to do here plus I'd never miss the chance to catch up with friends." Ironwood chuckled as he took it and sipped; "Displays of our newest tech were being showcased in Vale and we have a delivery to make for it with one of our prototypes."
"I see…Though that doesn't fully explain why you required a fleet that's large enough for a country to come here too." Ozpin pointed out as he glanced out of the window as numerous ships hovered around; "It sets a rather…dubious precedent."
"You can't be too careful when it comes to safety but I also remember one thing you mentioned that had my curiosity…This student of your's and his watch; you wanted to ask me about it?" Ironwood asked as he tapped his scroll and showed a picture of Jason and a few closeup shots of his watch.
"I want you to take a closer look at it because it doesn't look like any kind of machinery I could find in Vale or anywhere else." Ozpin explained as he zoomed in on the watch; "It managed to turn his own weapon into something of a similar design…That's why I'd like to get a second opinion on it."
Ironwood nodded to himself as he leaned in to inspect it; "Just from the basic look of it; I can tell you that it doesn't look like any tech we've come up with back in Atlas…Pietro hasn't discussed anything like this and even Watts wouldn't have had this on record if all of his data hadn't vanished along with him…" He mused out loud as he looked over to the various pictures that Ozpin kept for reference of Jason's different forms. "You said that this piece allowed him to access other aliases, correct?"
Ozpin shook his head; "From what he told me, Jason's Semblance transforms him into these forms that he imagines but he also tells me that the watch regulates and stops him from accessing them accidentally…Now he's doing them more frequently and without a time limit which makes me unsure whether he's controlling it better…"
"Or the Watch's regulation is weakening…" Ironwood mentioned; "But it begs the question of where he got the inspiration from…"
"James, you're a headmaster for one of Remnant's top academies…You should be more than aware that children have a much greater sense of creativity and imagination than someone like you and me." Ozpin pointed out and then looked to Jason's version of Franken-Strike; "And his happens to be something incredible…"
Ironwood gazed on each of them and realised something as he drank another sip of his coffee; "But that leads to another question entirely, if his Semblance is based off of his imagination or his creativity when he shifts form…How is he able to perfectly replicate it each time? Even the most keen of eidetic memory can't replicate the smallest and most minute of details multiple times." He pointed out and then narrowed his eyes, "Something about this doesn't add up, if we chalk this down to imaginary beings that come from media then it's one thing but I can hardly believe this is all because of that…"
"And what exactly do you have to explain it, James? Granted I don't think I could see where he gets these inspirations from but is it really such a bad thing to not know where it originates from? Semblances get more and more intricate with each generation, you and I both know that and you'll drive yourself mad if you keep trying to rationalise everything about it."
"Having a sound and reasonable explanation is not what leads to lunacy…Though if I may state my honest opinion?" Ironwood asked as he eyed over the various forms, armoured forms and other features that Jason discovered with Ozpin's help. "Some of these don't even look like anything that could potentially exist in Vale….Or Atlas or even Vacuo."
"So what exactly do you assume they are, James?" Ozpin asked since this question had been stuck with Beacon's headmaster for a while now.
"In all honesty: These creatures look almost…Alien in nature." Ironwood explained as he eyed up what looked like a werewolf that was as tall as a man but with a split maw.
—Meanwhile in the bad part of Vale--
"Come on, my friend's inside~" Yang called out as Jason struggled to get off the bike; "Heh, for someone who can move faster than a bike…You really can't handle riding one?" She remarked playfully to tease him before pulling off her helmet.
"It's not exactly my fault that I like feeling in control when I'm speeding." Jason grumbled as he fixed his hair after pulling off the helmet; "Plus the way you drive is kinda wild." He added with a smirk as he looked around; The sound of thumping music in the distance seemed familiar for some reason to Jason before he went to catch up with Yang; "I thought we were looking for info, not hitting up a club."
Yang turned to face him with a cheeky smile and a wink; "What? We can do both~ This particular club is run by someone who knows just about anything going on, if anyone's gonna know about Torchwick and his plans…I'll bet Junior knows about it." She assured him as she reared her fist back to knock down the doors. "Get ready because it can get rough in there~"
Jason nodded as he followed along with her as he mentally prepared for whatever this place had in store but one question popped up in his head as Yang blasted the two doors off their hinges.
"Wait, Did she say Junior?"
