Starry Sky Professional

Chapter 53: Dream

Fang Xing was taken aback when Jing Xia seemed to appear suddenly beside him, placing her hand on Gu Yun's shoulder.

But inside, he felt a sense of relief.

'So she really is with the Control Bureau,' he thought to himself, 'and she never forgets to bring her watchdog along...'

He glanced at the fierce bulldog sitting next to Jing Xia, unable to suppress a mental dig.

"Gu Yun is an intern in our Faith and Theory Department, she has nothing to do with your Action Department... Moreover, she is on a school-sponsored internship, so there's no way she could join your department," Bai Ziling said coolly, seemingly bearing a grudge against Jing Xia.

"I was just asking... After all, I saw the fire in her eyes, and talents like hers are perfect for joining our Action Department to replace some of the dead weights," Jing Xia admitted nonchalantly, holding a drink in her hand. "And by the way, Fang classmate, would you be interested in interning with our department?"

Although she was an elegant woman, when she smiled, she looked more like a fox.

"Sorry, it's a school-specific internship program," Fang Xing quickly declined, thinking he'd have to be crazy to join the Action Department.

"That's really a pity," Jing Xia waved her hand. "If you change your mind, feel free to come find me anytime."

"Let's go," Bai Ziling said, not bothering to say more before ushering Fang Xing and Gu Yun into the elevator.

Once the silvery liquid metal completely enveloped them, Fang Xing found it impossible to tell whether they were going up or down.

"You know that woman too?" Bai Ziling suddenly turned, fixing Fang Xing with a stare.

"I often run into her during morning exercises, she seems to live near the school," Fang Xing replied honestly.

"Don't provoke that woman. She enjoys ruthlessly exploiting her subordinates and cutting them down with words," Bai Ziling smirked coldly. "The number of her team members transferred to logistics support or receiving treatment at the recreation center is the highest, if you understand what that means."

"Of course," Fang Xing nodded quickly.

At some point, the metal wall in front of them opened, revealing a sprawling space.

Inside, several members of the Faith and Theory Department were bustling around, all wearing badges.

"I'm sending you a map. You can only move within the green zone... The library, storage room, and observation room are red zones; you are not allowed to go there," Bai Ziling announced with a stern expression as he handed over a map.

💧Bai Ziling continued, "Today's task for you is to clean the green zone and manage the water dispensers."

"Does this place even need cleaning?"

Fang Xing looked at the immaculate floor, suspecting the silvery-white metallic surface had a self-cleaning function.

He even considered the possibility that the entire building was a living metallic entity!

"So, are we really just slacking off in plain sight?" he mused.

Noticing Fang Xing's gaze, Bai Ziling adjusted his glasses, "Any other questions?"

"How much do we earn per day?" Fang Xing asked.

"It’s 2000 per hour, additional benefits and bonuses are calculated separately," Bai Ziling replied.

"I have no other questions," Fang Xing nodded, then headed toward the water dispenser and casually took a seat next to it.

"Quite satisfactory," Bai Ziling showed a slight smile. "Xiaorui, should you encounter any problems, feel free to come to me."

After Bai Ziling left, Gu Yun's expression darkened as she watched him go. "I assumed that no matter how trivial the assignments, I would at least gain some exposure..."

Gu Yun sank beside Fang Xing, her eyes losing focus. Fang Xing understood that her eagerness for this internship was hugely driven by a desire to familiarize herself with her father's workspace and gather information for vengeance in the future.

Given a choice, she would undoubtedly join Jing Xia's operations unit. Alas, such an option was beyond her reach.

"Here, have some water," Fang Xing said, not intending to offer comfort, as he poured water into a cup and handed it to Gu Yun, then filled one for himself.

Taking just a sip, he sensed something peculiar, "Is there some kind of mental stimulant in this water? Or perhaps it has another effect that calms the mind…"

Gu Yun, seemingly more informed, finished her cup swiftly, "For those in the Theory of Faith Department, maintaining mental stability is the foremost priority. We are tested every day…" She explained, "This purified water also benefits us practitioners of A-rank martial arts, it's considered a workplace perk."

"Hmm, but it’s not nearly as good as the Tranquil Mind Pill…"

Fang Xing silently compared in his heart and reached a conclusion.

The sun set in the west.

"Goodbye!"

He walked out of the Prevention Bureau, bidding farewell to Gu Yun, planning to walk home and exercise along the way.

"The Prevention Bureau is absolutely tight with security. Trying to sneak around to do anything here is pure fantasy, you’ll only expose yourself…"

As for trying to gain some advantage in the Department of Faith Theory?

After observing all day, Fang Xing scoffed at the notion.

The materials he wanted to see about the cult gods, and even suspected cultist texts, were all stored in special rooms, awaiting examination and review by the members of the Faith Theory Department.

For some highly guarded cult texts, several researchers had to apply, then get authorized and approved by the minister and deputy minister before they could conduct research, all of which had to be done in specialized protective rooms, and not even a single piece of paper could be taken out.

"The Department of Faith Theory has been running for so many years, with surveillance everywhere. Even their own people have to check their mental states and pollution levels before going out… How could there possibly be a flaw for me to exploit? If there is… it’s definitely a trap!"

"At least I’ve seen it now, and I know Jing Xia’s identity; the salary is quite high too… Hmm?"

Fang Xing suddenly looked up, only to see a sky of orange-red: "Why do I suddenly feel like I’m being watched?"

Thinking of this, he quickened his pace and vanished at the end of the street.

A few minutes later, a figure stepped out from the shadows, a hoarse voice remarking, "As expected of a young prodigy who has already entered the realm of A-level martial arts. His mental strength has begun a slight qualitative change. We can’t observe up close… The martial artist’s intuition is truly a nuisance."

This person was shrouded entirely in a black robe, with the surrounding surveillance inexplicably sparking, as if malfunctioned.

Following behind the black-robed figure were two students.

One had the build of a bodybuilder and looked at Fang Xing’s retreating figure with a complex expression; he was Liu Wei.

The other wasn’t Bai Lianyi, but Liu Wei recognized her. She was a fellow student at Yucai High School, with a delicate appearance, named ‘Guo Peipei.’

At this moment, Guo Peipei looked at Liu Wei, "I heard this guy is your good friend? He’s quite impressive now, not only becoming Xia Long’s favored student but also sneaking into the Prevention Bureau."

"If needed, I can deal with him."

Liu Wei replied in a low voice.

"Dealing with him is easy, but it’s not beneficial for us… This Fang Xing, his value is increasing."

Fang Xing felt a searing pain in his head, as if it were on the verge of exploding.

Strange knowledge and information, like countless burning hot iron spikes, seemed intent on piercing into his mind...

"Is this... a demonic god from beyond? No... no, if it were the real thing, I’d already be dead, unable to even think... this is a facade, a mimicry!"

In the next moment, veins bulged on Fang Xing's forehead, his expression a fearsome mix of ghost and deity.

"Even if it’s a ghost or god, I will cut it down with a single strike!"

"Sever the ghost god!"

Using his hand as a blade, he struck fiercely at the strange glowing door.

Ghost God Blade—Sever the Ghost God!

An astonishing blade light soared into the sky, spanning several miles, scattering that peculiar door in an instant...

Countless mists dispersed, accompanied by the faint wail of a woman.

"Ah!"

Inside the bedroom.

Fang Xing abruptly sat up, grabbing the ink-patterned sword with his right hand.

Outside the window, the night wind blew cold, while a few night cats wailed in heat, their cries akin to a baby's weeping. The community was serene and still, everything as it always was.

"A dream?"

A hint of suspicion crossed his face: "The Gate of Void? Why would I dream of such a thing without reason? No... no, someone is plotting against me! It's the cultists!"

As for the supposed demonic god, it was merely a product of someone's imagination, not even a projection or aura of the real entity.

The reason was simple; even cultists, if inadequately prepared, would go utterly mad or even die upon witnessing the true appearance of a demonic god!

"Who have I offended?"

Fang Xing growled low, seething with rage.

It was the same in the marketplace and on Young Eagle Star!

Despite his cautiousness, doing nothing but focusing on his own development, why did people always scheme against him?

Then, as if recalling something, he reached out and grabbed, producing a talisman in his hand - the 'Scent Seeking Talisman'!

"The woman in the dream has already left a trace of her aura, she must still be nearby..."

Fang Xing tightened his grip on the Ink-patterned Sword, his expression shrouded in a deep mystery…⁃
