Starsea Fleet: Age of the Lord

Chapter 169: Chapter 169: Impropriety

In a grand palace on the main planet of the Lizard Drake Star System, two figures sat in quiet conversation. One was the towering chieftain of the Lizard Drake people, holding a roasted leg of some creature, feasting with abandon. The other, a mechanical emissary named Lai Heng, watched the display with a look of distaste, his expression mirroring that of a human.

"Lizard Drake Chieftain," Lai Heng began, voice sharp with irritation, "the Divine Clan promised to supply your people with high-grade starships and numerous slaves. The starships have been maintained well, but it seems the slaves have all ended up on your dining tables, particularly when you're feasting in front of my people."

The chieftain, unbothered, set down the leg and waved dismissively. "No need for offense, Envoy Lai Heng. The slaves your people supplied aren't of much use to us. The Lizard Drakes lack for meat, not grains. They make fine sustenance to nourish our own."

Lai Heng's mechanical features tightened in irritation as he continued, "You've received the ships and the slaves as promised. When, then, will your forces move to attack the Storm Kingdom? No race can defy the will of the Divine Clan. Keep that in mind."

Understanding the implied threat, the chieftain softened his demeanor. "Envoy Lai Heng, you must see it from our perspective. The Storm Kingdom now possesses T5 starships, while our people do not. We'll need a few more T5-class starships from the Divine Clan to ensure our success." He chuckled, entirely unapologetic.

"The Divine Clan will deploy several T5-class mechanical warships within your fleet, but control of those ships will not be granted to you. You know the rules," Lai Heng replied sternly. "One month. That's all you have."

Rising, Lai Heng left, muttering as he went, "These brutes—use them, then discard them. Once the Lizard Drake Star System and the Storm Kingdom's four star systems fall, they'll be ours. With this two-front assault, we'll break through the Federation's defenses."

Watching the emissary depart, the chieftain sneered, tossing down his roasted leg. "They want to use my people as fodder in their wars without proper compensation? I'll show them," he muttered. After venting his frustration, he resumed his meal, knowing he could do little openly against the fearsome Divine Clan, a force so powerful they had battled the Federation for millennia to a standstill.

The chieftain thought carefully, a sinister grin forming as he formulated a plan. Summoning one of his aides, he whispered a set of instructions, satisfaction gleaming in his eyes.

Meanwhile, Feng Mo, having destroyed the New Humanity Church outpost, gave the order to return home. The temporary mission was complete, earning him 3,000 points, bringing his total to 4,660—just over halfway to the next T5 starship blueprint.

Rather than return to the Beast Roar Prime Star, Feng Mo directed the Storm God back to Hurricane Prime. His focus now was the upcoming auction, and he wanted every detail perfected. Feng Mo had the technical team design a promotional poster, displaying the words "Storm Auction" in grand golden letters at the top, with images of items like the Storm God, Orca, and rare Life Sustaining Fruits arranged prominently. The design was dark and majestic, exuding high-class elegance.

Once satisfied with the poster, Feng Mo personally sent it to his network of Imperial nobles and military contacts across the Federation.

Four days later, on the 9th of September in the Federation Year 7497, the day of the Storm Auction had arrived.

The auction hall was a massive three-story structure, elegant but not ostentatious. The first floor featured a large stage with rows of seats arranged in a fan shape, while private boxes lined the second floor. Only those ranked as T4 fleet commanders and counts or higher had access to the second floor. The third floor was reserved for top-level officials, such as Duke Gu Jun and Imperial ministers.

Not all 108 boxes on the third floor were filled. Though the Life Sustaining Fruit was a tempting prize, it wasn't a necessity for everyone. This time, only 64 boxes were occupied.

In Box No. 1 on the third floor, Feng Mo sat with Chu Yunjian, Ai Er, and Kylan. They watched as guests entered the hall.

Once everyone was seated, the doors were closed. The auctioneer chosen by Chu Yunjian was none other than Lian He, the auctioneer from the Federation's offline auction who had impressed Feng Mo with her refined elegance and composed demeanor. She exuded a unique combination of grace, intelligence, and warmth that Feng Mo had rarely seen in anyone else.

"Good morning, distinguished guests," Lian He began. "My name is Lian He, and by the Duke's invitation, I am honored to serve as the head auctioneer for the Storm Auction. I know many of you are here for the headline items, but we'll save those for later."

With a confident smile, she continued, "Today's auction will run all day, featuring 40 items split across morning, afternoon, and evening sessions. You've all seen the catalog, so without further delay, let's begin with our first item!"

With a tap of her hammer, a holographic display projected the first item: a rotating 3D model of a starship with detailed stats—a quasi-T5 White Shark-class Star Destroyer. As soon as this was revealed, the crowd murmured in astonishment. Even though they had seen the catalog, the sheer magnitude of this auction was hard to ignore.

After giving the audience a moment to take it in, Lian He continued, "The quasi-T5 White Shark-class Star Destroyer, an upgraded blueprint of the T4 White Shark-class. The design includes production authorization but cannot be transferred. The starting bid is 15 million star coins. Let the bidding begin!"

This was an item Feng Mo had high hopes for. He had obtained the original T4 blueprint from the Mo Feather Fleet of the Yunshan Empire and, with Alisa's help, spent ten days upgrading it to quasi-T5. As expected, the guests found it hard to resist. The auction hall filled with digital bids almost immediately.
