Chapter 10: Chapter 10: New Changes
The narrow, blood-red corridor resembled the terrifying depictions of hell in legends. It felt as though blood could seep from any corner at any moment.
Alex stood silently in a pool of blood, his eyes half-closed, gripping a knife. His casual outfit was stained with splashes of crimson, making him appear as if he were wearing clothes dyed entirely in blood.
The area around him was a nightmarish sea of blood. The ground was littered with spent bullet casings, discarded guns, and tattered combat uniforms—but conspicuously absent were the human corpses one might expect in such a scene.
All was silent. Alex stood straight, his knife planted firmly into the ground.
Yet he wasn't lost in regret or lamenting his own brutality. Instead, he was enduring the excruciating pain radiating from his eyes. After slaughtering all the soldiers who had surrounded him and devouring them one by one, a sharp, piercing pain suddenly erupted in his eyes. It was a sensation both familiar and alien, and it filled his heart with elation.
He knew that after years of accumulation, his Jianmie Eyes [Annihilation Eyes] had finally absorbed enough spiritual energy. A new ocular technique, following the Thousand-Mile Vision, was about to emerge.
"Ugh..."
Alex gritted his teeth, groaning under the searing pain in his eyes. It felt as though ants were gnawing at his eyeballs—a persistent agony that even someone as experienced as him struggled to endure.
With his eyes shut tight, Alex forced himself to withstand the torment. Even with his permanently enhanced physique—tempered by the Jianmie Eyes over the years—he found himself powerless against this pain. Yet, amidst the waves of unbearable discomfort, he could sense a profound and mysterious transformation brewing within his eyes. A tingling sensation accompanied the pain, but it did little to diminish the boundless joy in his heart.
Ocular techniques were Alex's lifeline in this world filled with superheroes and supervillains. The more powerful his eyes became, the stronger his ability to protect himself, and the more secure his life would be. Now, as his eyes prepared to awaken a new technique, how could a little pain overshadow his excitement?
Roughly ten minutes passed before the pain in Alex's eyes began to subside. The suffering gave way to an indescribable comfort, spreading from his eyes to every corner of his body.
"Whew…"
Alex exhaled deeply, his body gradually relaxing. Slowly, he opened his eyes and looked around. Instantly, he became acutely aware of the changes brought by the new ocular technique. His vision was sharper than ever, and every movement and trajectory in the world around him was crystal clear.
At the same time, a surge of information rushed from his pupils into his brain. Alex staggered briefly before regaining his footing, absorbing the influx of knowledge.
"Guīyǎn [Ghost Eyes], is this the new technique? It even comes with an additional skill. Just how powerful are my eyes?" Alex muttered, staring at his reflection in the blade of his katana.
As a devoted fan of anime and manga, Alex immediately recognized the term Guīyǎn. In a certain Japanese series, Guīyǎn symbolized a swordsman's transcendence beyond humanity, reaching the realm of deities. Yet, in this world, Alex had obtained the Guīyǎn first and would master the techniques of a divine swordsman afterward.
In other words, the emergence of Guīyǎn disrupted the original order of cause and effect. The outcome had now become the cause, instantly elevating Alex to the level of a deity-like swordsman!
"No wonder it took years to develop this technique. Its power is incredible!"
The gleaming metal of the katana reflected Alex's Guīyǎn. They were a pure, untainted blood-red, devoid of any impurities. At first glance, they bore a resemblance to the Jianmie Eyes but lacked the distinctive cross-shaped pupils. Instead, they exuded an endless crimson void, neither showing emotion nor radiating killing intent.
Calm. Utterly and terrifyingly calm.
For a swordsman, maintaining basic composure in any situation was essential. But as a "ghostly deity" of the Shenmingryu Swordsmanship [Divine Sound Flow Swordsmanship], this level of calmness was unparalleled.
Now, with the Guīyǎn active, Alex possessed this chilling calmness himself.
"Whew! These eyes make me feel so detached I might not even be human anymore!"
With a self-deprecating sigh, Alex surveyed his surroundings before stepping forward. It was time to meet the captured mutants.
The sound of clashing metal rang through the air as the adamantium claws of Wolverine and Sabretooth collided repeatedly, sending sparks flying. The two figures fought fiercely before the anxious gaze of Silver Fox, staging a brutal scene aptly titled "Brother Against Brother."
Both Wolverine and Sabretooth were battle-hardened veterans, having survived World Wars I and II, as well as countless skirmishes. Their attacks were precise, aimed at the body's weakest points. Despite their superhuman regenerative abilities, a well-placed strike could momentarily incapacitate either of them, leaving them vulnerable to the other.
In a heated exchange, Sabretooth managed to break through Wolverine's defense. His left claw slashed through the air, leaving a deep, bone-revealing gash on Wolverine's torso.
"Logan, you're as useless as ever!"
Grinning wickedly, Sabretooth launched himself at Wolverine with a powerful leap, one claw targeting his head and the other aiming for his chest. His movements were swift and relentless.
But having fought alongside Sabretooth for countless battles, Wolverine was no stranger to his techniques. Just as Sabretooth lunged at him, Wolverine dropped to the ground and delivered a powerful kick to Sabretooth's chest.
With a thunderous crash, Sabretooth was sent flying, smashing into the ceiling and leaving a massive dent before crashing back to the floor.
For an ordinary person, such an impact would have been fatal. But Sabretooth, a mutant of extraordinary resilience, quickly rose to his feet, glaring at Wolverine with a mix of rage and frustration.
"You've pissed me off, Logan!" Sabretooth growled, his bone claws extending once more. "This time, I'm going to kill you!"
"Come on, Victor! It's time we settled this!"
Wolverine extended his adamantium claws, determined to end the feud with his brother once and for all.
Meanwhile, Silver Fox watched helplessly from the sidelines. With Wolverine now aware of the truth, she no longer had the standing to dissuade him.
Elsewhere, General Munson arrived at the room where Weapon XI was being held. The door was still intact, and he breathed a sigh of relief.
"Good, Stryker hasn't activated Weapon XI yet. You two, return to the command center and await further orders. I need to have a word with Major Stryker."
The soldiers saluted and left promptly. Munson quickly entered the room, spotting Stryker standing beside Weapon XI.
"Stryker! What are you doing? I've made it clear—no one touches Weapon XI without my orders! Do you intend to disobey me?"
"I… I was just…" Stryker stammered, his face pale as he turned toward the furious general.
"Save it!" Munson interrupted. "Your presence here is already a violation. If you don't want to spend the rest of your life in prison, leave immediately. That's an order!"
Stryker lowered his head, his expression unreadable. "Understood, General. I'll leave at once…"
Munson relaxed slightly and turned to leave. But the moment his back was turned, Stryker lunged forward. The sound of a blade piercing flesh echoed in the room as Munson collapsed, betrayed by the man he thought he controlled.
"Foolish old man," Stryker muttered coldly. Ignoring Munson's lifeless body, he turned his attention back to Weapon XI. He had work to do, and there was no time to waste.
