Chapter 9: Chapter 9: The Treasure Blade

Under the combined assault of soldiers and snipers, Alex narrowly reached his initial target. Not far ahead stood a laboratory with the number "4" prominently displayed on its door.

"Finally!"

Saying this, Alex raised his leg and delivered a heavy kick to the lab's door.

Bang!

The thick metal door caved inward but stubbornly held its ground, continuing to fulfill its role of barring outsiders.

"Damn!"

Alex clicked his tongue in surprise. Outsiders might not understand the force behind that kick, but he knew it well. After years of enhancements from the Thousand-Mile Eye, his body had far surpassed human limits. That single kick carried as much destructive power as a speeding car crashing head-on.

Yet, even with such force, the door remained intact. The defenses of Lab 4 were undeniably formidable.

"Let's see how many more kicks you can take!"

Driven by his competitive streak, Alex stepped back a few paces, steadied his breath, and charged forward. With another thunderous bang, the metal door finally gave way, flying backward into the lab.

Crash!

The displaced door hurtled over ten meters before smashing into an expensive-looking piece of equipment, reducing it to rubble.

"Heh!"

Pleased with his success, Alex strode into the lab, grinning with satisfaction at his handiwork. His gaze quickly swept over the room before heading to the right.

The interior of Lab 4 was like any other laboratory, filled with an array of unknown electronic devices and spiderweb-like cables sprawling across the floor.

Of course, Alex—completely ignorant of high-tech machinery—paid these no mind. His attention was drawn to an out-of-place object in the corner: a large glass case.

Inside the case lay several melee weapons, meticulously arranged. The glass casing was clearly not ordinary—it resembled bulletproof reinforced glass.

In a world dominated by firearms, such careful preservation of cold weapons was both perplexing and intriguing.

The collection included a variety of weapons: Chinese spears and swords, military combat daggers, and numerous Japanese katanas. There were also popular small knives like butterfly knives, along with auxiliary tools such as grappling hooks. The assortment was comprehensive.

"These are some fine weapons!" Alex's voice betrayed his excitement. "Who would've thought these foreigners would take such an interest in katanas and butterfly knives?"

Mindful of the earlier trouble with the metal door, Alex didn't take any chances this time. Channeling his full strength, he smashed his fist against the reinforced glass. The glass shattered instantly into tiny shards.

"Perfect weight!"

Alex picked up a katana, weighing it in his hand, and immediately fell in love with the weapon. No self-respecting otaku could resist the allure of a katana.

Eager to test its performance, Alex approached a metal device, targeting an exposed pipe. He swung the blade.

Whoosh!

The only sound was the blade cutting through the air. It was so clean that it seemed the blade hadn't even touched its target. But a moment later, the distinct clink of metal hitting the ground echoed—the pipe had been sliced cleanly in two.

"Cutting through metal like butter… Now, this is what I call a real blade!"

Alex exclaimed, almost shouting in excitement. "That swing felt like slicing through air—no resistance at all. This is undoubtedly a divine weapon!"

Like a child with a new toy, Alex couldn't stop marveling at the katana. His gaze shifted to the other weapons in the case, and he suddenly thought of his two friends back in the U.S.

"Those two love cold weapons. If I bring these back for them, they'll be ecstatic!"

Without hesitation, Alex began collecting the weapons from the case. He tied the katanas, butterfly knives, and daggers together with the rope attached to one of the grappling hooks. Fortunately, most of the weapons were already equipped with sheaths, making them easier to carry.

Satisfied, Alex selected a dagger for himself, tucking it into his right pocket. The rest of the weapons were slung over his back.

"All set. Now that I've got what I came for, it's time to take care of business."

Smiling, Alex strode out of the lab, katana in hand. Outside, he could already hear the approaching footsteps of soldiers.

"Time to deal with those grunts!"

In his haste, Alex failed to notice the words engraved beneath the glass case: Adamantium. He had no idea how extraordinary these weapons truly were.

Adamantium—indestructible, impervious to wear, and nearly indestructible.

This high-grade alloy was forged by mixing extraterrestrial meteorite powder with carbon. Once cooled, it could withstand temperatures of over 500,000 degrees Celsius without melting. Its chemical structure was a closely guarded secret of the U.S. government, shared only with its closest allies. In other words, no amount of money could buy it.

Lab 4 had originally been dedicated to producing adamantium weapons. However, the project was shelved after Stryker's successful transformation of Logan into the unbreakable Wolverine. The remaining weapons had been sealed away—until Alex stumbled upon them.

Outside the lab, the soldiers' communication systems buzzed to life.

"The target is exiting Lab 4. All units are authorized to open fire upon sight!"

The soldiers, already tense, adjusted their positions, training their weapons on the lab entrance.

"Open fire!"

The moment Alex stepped out, he was met with a hail of bullets. Soldiers shouted as they unleashed their firepower, with grenades exploding in the mix. At the rear, several troops carrying rocket launchers waited for an opportunity to strike.

The situation was perilous.

"If you want my life, then there's nothing left to say."

Alex smiled grimly. A blood-red cross suddenly appeared in his pupils, his gaze reflecting a crimson world of carnage.

The next instant, his figure vanished like a phantom.

"Aaaah!"

Three soldiers screamed in agony before collapsing to the ground, their bodies severed at the waist. Blood pooled around them—death was instantaneous.

Nearby soldiers, stunned, barely had time to react before a flash of blade light arced through the air. A cold slash severed another soldier's throat.

"You… monster…"

The soldier's final words gurgled out with a spray of blood before he crumpled to the ground.

"Devil! Demon!"

Panic spread among the troops. Some, driven mad by fear, began firing wildly, indiscriminately spraying bullets and hitting even their comrades.

"Rat-tat-tat!"

"Aaaaah!"

The battlefield descended into chaos, a hellish symphony of gunfire, screams, and the sound of falling bodies. Amid the carnage, Alex moved like a ghost—graceful, efficient, and utterly deadly.

This was his domain: the bloody theater of war.
