Chapter 5: Chapter 5: The Isolated Island
"Oh my god! Look at this, such a bizarre ability!"
On a small island isolated in the sea, a man in a white lab coat looked at the image on the monitor with surprise: a dozen or so soldiers were being "devoured" one by one by a young boy with red eyes!
"This kind of mutant ability has never appeared in the data before. Shi Cui Ke, he is very dangerous!" A woman, also wearing a white lab coat, cautioned the man.
Shi Cui Ke tapped a few keys on the computer and pointed to the popping values on the screen, his expression filled with barely contained excitement. "He's dangerous? I know, I certainly know! But, look, look closely. His speed, reaction time, and combat awareness are all stronger than the mutants in our lab. And add to that his ability to directly devour humans... His ability is undoubtedly powerful..."
"You..."
The woman was about to say something when the door was suddenly pushed open. A man in a general's uniform stepped in, exuding the iron-blooded aura of a soldier and the imposing authority of a superior.
"Shi Cui Ke, I heard someone plans to stir up trouble on the island. Is that true?"
"Yes, General Meng Sen!"
Shi Cui Ke nodded, his eyes flickering with an unusual gleam, though it went unnoticed by anyone. "However, this mutant's ability is incredibly interesting. It's very likely he could become our twelfth weapon!"
"Oh? You mean he's even more powerful than the newly created eleventh weapon?"
General Meng Sen looked at Shi Cui Ke with astonishment. He had seen the power of the eleventh weapon firsthand, and now a mutant stronger than that had appeared so quickly?
"Exactly, General Meng Sen!" Shi Cui Ke nodded, his eyes shining with fanaticism. "The success of the eleventh weapon allowed us to roughly master the ability fusion technique of mutants. If we transfer the eleventh weapon's abilities to him, we can create a twelfth weapon that is even stronger and has a greater lethal potential against mutants!"
With that, he moved the computer screen to allow General Meng Sen to view it. "General, look here. In his initial state, his speed is already surpassing mutants specialized in that aspect. His reaction time and combat abilities are exceptional—he's practically the perfect experimental subject, fully qualified to become our twelfth weapon!"
"Mm..."
General Meng Sen pondered, his eyes scanning the images and data on the computer. "Indeed, this is perfect experimental material! Alright, since he's coming after us, there's no need to be polite. Shi Cui Ke, since you're an expert on dealing with mutants, I'll leave the task of capturing him to you."
"Rest assured, General. I will make sure you see our twelfth weapon!" Shi Cui Ke's fleeting look of joy quickly vanished as he earnestly promised the general.
"I'll be watching closely!"
General Meng Sen gave Shi Cui Ke a deep look before turning and walking out of the office.
"Shi Cui Ke, you..."
The woman tried to speak, but Shi Cui Ke completely ignored her. He picked up the communicator on the desk. "Enough talking, you can leave now. I need to make preparations."
"You... sigh."
Her words turned into a deep sigh as she opened the door and walked out of the room.
.........
"There's no helicopter interception, no ships blocking the sea... This place should already be within their defensive range. Why haven't they made a move?"
On the sea, a thousand meters from the island, Alex steered his boat to a stop, puzzled. He activated the first auxiliary eye technique evolved from his Destruction Eye—the Thousand-Mile Vision!
Every time his Destruction Eye evolved to a certain level, a new ability would emerge. So far, he had only unlocked the Thousand-Mile Vision.
The Thousand-Mile Vision was a long-range vision ability, but it wasn't limited to just that. It also had night vision, X-ray vision, and 360-degree panoramic sight—basically an enhanced and more versatile version of the "Byakugan!"
"A thousand meters, that's plenty."
With a confident smile, Alex looked toward the island. The distant scene quickly zoomed in, and the situation on the island, a thousand meters away, appeared clearly in his vision.
"I see. They've already set up a trap. They intentionally lured me in. So I've become the so-called 'mutant' now!"
Looking at the situation in the distance, Alex chuckled.
On the island, near the coastline closest to him, there were soldiers hiding in ambush, all equipped with high-tech gear. Their concealment techniques were impressive; if Alex hadn't had X-ray vision, he wouldn't have noticed them. Moreover, he realized that every soldier was carrying a special alloy net, indicating that their orders were to capture him alive.
"Gunfire won't do much against me, so is this how they plan to capture me?"
With that thought, Alex shifted his gaze, laughing aloud. It turned out that around the area where Alex might land, the soldiers had set up numerous traps—some old-fashioned, like ropes and hidden pits, while others were high-tech weapons, all designed with the intention of capturing Alex alive!
"You've set so many dangers. You really think highly of me!"
With those words, Alex deepened his vision and observed the base on the island. The first thing he saw was the grand dam under construction. Below the dam was a dense cluster of buildings and solid roads that crisscrossed the island. Armed soldiers with live ammunition patrolled the area, maintaining tight security.
Inside the building complex, there were all sorts of metal devices—some were multiple stories tall, others small, but all were impressive in their own way. Though Alex didn't understand anything about this, he couldn't help but feel awe. Perhaps this was what it felt like to be "blind" and long for "sight."
"I found them. So, these are the captured mutants?"
As his vision continued inward, Alex saw strange metal cages containing several young men and women. Their faces all bore gloomy expressions.
"Who are you?"
Just as Alex was curiously observing the mutants, one of them noticed his "gaze" and looked in his direction.
—a beautiful girl!
"So this is a mutant, interesting!"
Alex sighed in admiration, then temporarily lost interest in continuing his observation. He retracted his gaze and restarted the boat, heading toward the island a thousand meters away.
"White Queen (Real Name: Diamond Lady), what's wrong?" A "roommate" of the girl, concerned after noticing Alex's gaze, asked.
"I just felt someone was watching us."
While answering her "roommate's" question, the Diamond Lady turned to check her surroundings. "But the feeling quickly disappeared. I don't feel it anymore!"
Knowing the strength of Diamond Lady's Telepathic ability, the "roommate" believed her words without question. She speculated, uncertain, "You mean someone was watching us? Could it be one of the super-powered individuals in this base, or a mutant who's joined them? Do they have some kind of plan?"
"It's neither. They're probably not from the base!" Diamond Lady shook her head. "Their gaze felt similar to mine when I look at mutants. They're probably not one of the base mutants—they could be a captured ally, or maybe someone coming to disrupt the base!"
"Ally or rescuer?" The "roommate" muttered to herself, then smiled bitterly. "I hope it's the latter. Honestly, I've had enough of being stuck in this iron cage! I want to live freely outside!!"
"Don't lose heart. That day will come soon!" Diamond Lady comforted her roommate.
"How do you know?" Her "roommate" asked reflexively, then froze. "Sorry, I lost my temper."
"No need to apologize!" Diamond Lady gently embraced her roommate. "My intuition tells me that something big is going to happen at this base soon. Our day to leave is coming!"
"Really?"
"You should trust a telepath's intuition!" Diamond Lady pretended to pout.
"True..."
Though the "roommate" didn't know if Diamond Lady was comforting herself or truly sensed something big was about to happen, she couldn't help but feel a little more hopeful. After all, life must move forward, right?
