Wenxu Jiang’s voice came from the other side of the phone with a touch of nonchalance, “Do you know about Zhiqi Li’s son?”

“Zekun Li?” Jingwen Zhang sounded solemn, “Why do you wanna know about him? Even combining all of us, we can do nothing about him. His dad is a ministry director.”

“The boy is kind of a mystery. He had leukemia too. He had the bone marrow that matched his but that was the one Ziyu Ai got for Zhishu.” Wenxu loosened his collar agitatedly, pushed the door and walked outside in big steps.

Assistant Song got off the car and opened the car door for him in a hurry.

Wenxu Jiang grabbed a pack of Zhonghua cigarettes from the backseat, took one out and ignited it. “I’ll find him tomorrow,” He gave Assistant Song a gesture, “Go back that apartment beside fourth ring-road.”

“Wenxu,” Jingwen Zhang lowered his voice, quite imperceptibly, “Whatever it will end, you’d better kill that thought; they won’t be very sensible. Something you might not know but word spread among us, Li really loves his son. And he’s in that position, threat or bribery just doesn’t work. You’d best keep your mouth shut.”

Wenxu Jiang’s cigarette burnt out but he didn’t realize until he felt the heat of fire searing his finger. Ashes scattered on him.

“Jingwen, you don’t worry about it…” Wenxu Jiang lowered the window, “You know more people at the hospital than I do. Just go look into Zhishu’s medical records; by the way, ask around if there’s any marrow that matches his available.”

Jingwen Zhang sighed quietly, “Wenxu, I know and I’ve always kept an eye on this. But you should understand… I took some of those pills in the study and had them checked; those are specific medications for terminal patients.” He paused with ineffable heartache, “It’s been too long… Bone marrow cannot help.”

Wenxu Jiang didn’t reply.

“Did you find Zhishu?” Jingwen changed the subject.

Wenxu Jiang confirmed lifelessly and forced a bitter smile, “He refused to see me. I’m in Beijing right now.”

Jingwen Zhang didn’t know what to say; his heart felt for him. He had pretty much witnessed what Zhishu had been through. If Wenxu Jiang didn’t care about the man, then the whole thing would be harmless. But he had never let go. Even Jingwen felt bad for Zhishu, not to mention Wenxu Jiang.

“Alright, enough of me.” Wenxu Jiang closed up the window, watching the city light flash the compartment. He breathed out lightly, “How’s your old man been doing?”

“Yurou’s been taking care of him at the hospital. He’s old, but no major diseases, just constant small problems,” Jingwen Zhang said, “Look at me, I’m all alone at home, like an empty nester.”

Wenxu Jiang chuckled, “Alright, that’s it, I’m nearly home.” Their chat didn’t go too far as Jingwen now had a family. Wenxu Jiang thought he’d better trouble him less.

“President Jiang, that land at west end was approved. Will you come to the office tomorrow?” Assistant Song didn’t dare to make a sound until his boss hung up the phone.

“West end?” Wenxu Jiang wasn’t in a clear state of mind; he could hardly open his eyes.

“The bidding a month ago, you know, Mr. Li and his people nailed it for us.”

Wenxu Jiang’s eyes were suddenly wide open; his fingers started to tremble involuntarily. “Give it to Ziqian Ai. He always wants it, doesn’t he?”

“President Jiang…”

“Stop. I’m gonna pay the Ai’s back with that land.” And the cost of this business was ironically Zhishu He’s life.

Wenxu Jiang wasn’t any part of Zekun Li’s bone marrow robbery but he insisted that he was the real culprit. A miserable and abominable man.
