Chapter 243 - Divine Cat Mii-chan, Watching the Sunset by the Lake
Chapter 243: Divine Cat Mii-chan, Watching the Sunset by the Lake
Since I’ve finished everything I needed to do in Forte, I decided to return home today, and tomorrow, we’ll head to the city of Nixe.
When I got home, everyone was busily and happily preparing for the trip to Quinto.
“Dr. Kaorin, are we allowed to have snacks up to 300 reto?”
“Toshi-kun, of course! And bananas don’t count as snacks.”
“But bananas aren’t sold unless it’s Wilhelm, right?”
“Mii.”
“Bananas, huh!”
“I’ve never had a banana before…”
These guys are in total field-trip mode. But it’s fine since Lu-san, Jin-san, and even Sieg-san are with us. Yan-kun, who’s staying behind, has never tried a banana before, huh? I’ll make sure to bring some back for him.
“More importantly, Kaorin, Toshi, are you really okay with making the yeast recipe public?”
“Totally fine!”
“No problem.”
“You could make a fortune, you know?”
“Mii?”
“That might be true, but wouldn’t it be way better if everyone could enjoy delicious bread wherever they are?”
“Exactly!”
The Munakata siblings don’t seem interested in making money from the yeast. Well, if they’re fine with it, then there’s no problem. Since it’s easy to make, I’ll ask the Commercial Guild to spread it around.
I gathered the members going to Quinto and let them choose their favorite gear from the weapons and armor we acquired in Forte. There were quite a few excellent pieces, so I thought it wouldn’t hurt to let them swap out the ones I’d given them before.
“Can I choose something too?”
“Of course, Lu-san, Jin-san, and Sieg-san, please take what you like. After all, we got them for free.”
“I’m taking this one, nya!”
“Hey! That’s the one I had my eye on!”
“First come, first served, nya!”
“These are all top-tier items that you’d need to be ready to jump off a cliff to buy… Are you sure it’s okay?”
“Zeke, Yan, if you overthink it, you lose. It’s just Nero, after all…”
“You’re right…”
Everyone changed into their new gear, checking for comfort and ease of movement.
“Tomorrow, let’s all go shopping at Wheeler’s Tool Shop, nya.”
“I want one of Nero’s lanterns.”
“I want Master Nyanko’s cape!”
“They sell all sorts of great tools, nya!”
“Mii.”
Schwarz’s shop really does have good stuff, though it’s also pretty expensive… Perro, go easy on me, okay? I bet you plan to charge it to me anyway.
“I’ll put it on Nero’s tab, nya!”
I knew it.
Among us, only Perro has storage skills. I don’t know how much it can hold, but I’m sure it’ll be stuffed with snacks and food. Everyone else will have to carry their own gear. Since we have the horses, it shouldn’t be too tough, but I’ll remind them not to overbuy.
That night, I consulted Lucas about the butler situation at the estate in Forte.
“To be honest, it’s difficult. Finding someone trustworthy…”
“Didn’t you say you’re calling in your relatives? Couldn’t one of them work?”
“None of them are ready for that kind of responsibility yet. I’ll need to teach them for some time.”
“What about Katia? Could she help?”
“My family’s trading company has already folded. I’ve reached out to some former employees, but…”
It seems Katia’s family’s business went under after her parents passed away, and with no one to succeed it, they passed it to an employee, but things didn’t go well. If Katia had taken over, things might have been different.
“Maybe I should ask the Commercial Guild for help?”
“I wouldn’t recommend that…”
Apparently, asking the Commercial Guild for a butler might lead to them laughing at my lack of connections. Normally, nobles would ask each other for introductions, but I don’t know any other nobles… well, there’s one. I owe that person a favor anyway. I’ll ask them when they’re back in the capital. Maybe I could consult the Duke too?
The next day, I rode Sumire toward Nixe. No matter how many times I see it, the scenery is always breathtaking. The light streaming down from the sky reflects off the lake, making it look like the city is floating on the water—it’s as beautiful as a painting. Mii-chan, that’s our city.
“Mii.”
We passed through the gate and headed straight to the town hall. The town has a quaint charm and a relaxed atmosphere, but there’s still a certain energy about it. Most importantly, there’s no tension in the air.
“Mii.”
At the town hall, I showed the receptionist the Brocken Baron’s seal, and she called for the person in charge. The interior of the hall also had a calming feel, and the receptionist responded with a calm, composed demeanor, saying she’d fetch them right away without any rush.
Soon, an older gentleman appeared.
“Baron Brocken, welcome. I am Lingard, the steward of this town.”
He led me to a private room, and the town’s records were promptly prepared. The documents were concise yet detailed, a stark contrast to the ones in Forte. To my surprise, Lingard and his wife live modestly in a rented home. He’s incredibly frugal and efficient—simply remarkable!
“Mii.”
Honestly, I couldn’t find a single fault with his work. I’d like him to stay on as steward, but the town feels a bit lacking without any major industry. Maybe I’ll think of something.
I also visited the Hunter and Commercial Guilds to introduce myself and explain the situation with Brocken Mountain. Both guildmasters were laid-back and good-natured. You could say they’re easygoing or that they lack any real standout traits.
Afterward, I relaxed by the lake with Mii-chan and Sumire, watching the scenery. The sunset on the lake is beautiful, isn’t it?
“Brrr.”
“Mii.”
