The next morning, I woke up to find myself surrounded by playful wolf and black panther cubs. It seems that kids are full of energy no matter what world you’re in. Even Mii-chan is buried in a mountain of fluffy fur.
Today, we’re scheduled to visit the Kobold Tribe’s village, with Sera leading the way.
We said our farewells to Martin-san here, and Elena-san will wait for us at this spot.
“Nero-kun, take care on your journey. Maybe I should come along after all?”
Please don’t. If the wyvern gets close, everyone will be startled.
With Sera guiding us, it took about an hour riding on Sumire to reach the Kobold Tribe’s village. It’s located halfway up a mountain, hidden at first glance, but as we got closer, it revealed itself as a village. How mysterious.

I handed over a generous amount of fish along with five barrels of ale. It seems the Kobold tribe makes their own wine, so I’ll save the rest for Kibaou-san.

“I’ll keep an eye out for a merchant for you. And if you need anything else, just let me know.”
“We can’t just take all this for free, woof. Come with me.”
Pat-san led me to a place that looked like a storage room. I wonder what’s inside?
“You can have everything in here, woof.”
The storage room was filled with the scent of herbs.
“Are these medicinal herbs?”
“Not just herbs, woof. There are rare seeds and unusual nuts too. Some of the other fae folks brought these, woof.”
“But won’t you and your tribe need these, Pat-san?”
“We don’t need them that much, woof. The merchant who used to visit us was always happy to buy them, woof. If you want more, we can gather plenty, woof.”
“Understood. I’ll take these and see if I can sell them. If they do well, they might even become a specialty product of your village.”
“That would make me so happy, woof. I’d love to dress the little ones in good clothes, woof.”
Wow, Pat-san is such a good Kobold! Mii-chan, please store everything for us. We’ll sell them all in the royal capital.

As we walked around the village, I gave mineral water to any Kobold who was sick, and they were very grateful.
“Nero-san, Mii-chan, please come back again, woof. You’re always welcome here, woof!”
The entire Kobold village, or at least it seemed that way, came to see us off. We’ll definitely come back.

We returned to Kibaou-san’s place to say our goodbyes before departing. I left behind the remaining barrels of wine as well.
“Feels kinda bad, just taking everything, ya know?”
“When I come back next time, I’ll be bringing an envoy from the Lumielle Kingdom, so please take care of them.”
“Got it. I’ll make sure Brocken Mountain is safe for travel. You can count on me.”

“Alright, we’re ready to go. Elena-san, are you all set?”

With that, I asked Sumire to get moving.
After a friendly snort to everyone, Sumire began walking. Once we reached the highway, our pace quickened, and by evening, we were nearing the town of Forte. I signaled to Elena-san to come down.
“What’s up?” she asked.
“What should we do about tonight’s lodging? We’re close to Forte, so we can still make it if we head there now.”
“Yes, let’s stay in Forte. But could you stop once before we reach the town?”
“Understood.”
I asked Sumire to head toward Forte, and we resumed our journey.
As the town of Forte came into view, Elena-san dismounted from her flying dragon and waited.
“Could you have Mii-chan store Baron’s saddle?”
With a glance, I signaled to Mii-chan, who stored the removed saddle.
“Baron, I’ll call you again in the morning, so please be ready.”
The flying dragon nuzzled up to Elena-san affectionately before taking off.
“Alright, Sumire-chan, will you carry me now?”
Sumire gave a little huff, showing a bit of a reluctant but accepting attitude.
“Well then, I’ll leave it to you.”
Elena mounted behind me. I joked that it would be better if she didn’t have armor on… just a joke.
It was a quick ride to the city gate. I went to the inn where we had stayed before and tried to book two rooms, but Elena insisted on sharing one room, saying it was a waste. In the end, we booked a room with three beds, so the cost wasn’t much different.
Before dinner, I planned to take a bath. Elena asked what she should do.
“I’d like to go, but… what about the kids?”
“I’ll leave them behind, but I’ll make sure to bathe them before bed.”
“Meow.”
“Go and enjoy yourself.”
“Meow.”
“Grr.”
“Alright, then I’ll go!”
On the way to the communal bath, I bought Elena a coat and a cardigan as a gift from a clothing store. The temperature had dropped after crossing Brocken Mountain, and it was still chilly at night. I’m not sure if it was cold for her while riding the dragon, but it’s always good to have. She was very pleased with the gift.
At the communal bath, I ordered a full-course meal for both of us. Elena mentioned that she had rarely been to a communal bath. Given her status as a duke’s niece, it’s understandable—she probably uses more luxurious baths.
After enjoying the bath, Elena was thrilled. She seemed to really like it. On the way back to the inn, she kept talking about how great it was, even though it was a bit embarrassing. I decided to ask her what kind of baths she usually uses.
To my surprise, she said she usually uses a small bath with a time limit at the dragon rider’s quarters, which only a few people can use. It’s hard to believe given her royal connections…
She also mentioned that joining the dragon riders meant she was removed from the line of succession and had to accept the same conditions as the other members. Even though she loves dragons, it’s quite a sacrifice…
I find myself dreaming of a life without financial worries.
