Chapter 205 - Delivering Food
None of them spoke.
Having been soaked for such a long time without a change of clothes, even though their training outfits were made of quick-dry material, they still felt sticky and uncomfortable with their clothes clinging to them.
But out here, especially in the middle of a competition like this, such discomfort was inevitable.
Moreover, there was some ventilation in the tunnel, and they were feeling the cold wind. After a while, they began to feel chilled all over. After some discussion, they decided to huddle together and set up a portable heater to warm up, which would also help dry their clothes a little.
Jiang Hui and the others figured that the water challenge was probably over. Leaving themselves wet for too long wasn’t a sustainable option, so warming up a bit would be more comfortable.
Probably because the energy block A1 had no limit, the charging speed was quick, much faster than when they encountered the other two earlier. In just a short while, Jiang Hui’s simulated vest’s electronic display showed a full 100%, indicating it was fully charged.
The other two were also nearly done, with their energy levels above 50%, and it wouldn’t take long before they were fully charged as well.
The charging process for the simulated vests was finally over. Even if they encountered issues later, this could be counted as normal consumption. After all, in a training environment, the energy of the simulated bras would deplete with each stumble, but this supply point allowed for faster charging.
So, no matter if they found more resources or not, their efforts hadn’t been in vain.
“Ah, it’s finally fully charged,” Zhou Xiuwen said, looking at the display with a pleased expression and a sense of accomplishment.
“It’s only been about forty star minutes or so. We still need more than an hour to leave this supply point,” Jiang Hui said casually as she organized her backpack.
She was actually wondering if the issue with the simulated vests was resolved, but there was still so much time left at the supply point. Should they continue forward? If they went forward without knowing what lay ahead, and couldn’t return here for more charging, the energy in the bras might deplete too much… It would be as if the charging was for nothing. This wouldn’t be good for the long-term strategy in the competition.
But staying in place for over an hour seemed like a waste. When they arrived at the supply point, the announcer had specifically reminded them that they had to leave the supply point in two star hours, which meant that after finding the total energy block A1, they had two star hours left for exploration. It wasn’t likely that those two star hours would be spent only on charging and resting, right?
Jiang Hui’s gaze inevitably followed the narrow passageway, looking towards the exit in the distance, where a different kind of light could be seen shining.
That area was probably the real supply point.
Huan Xian and Zhou Xiuwen, following her line of sight, naturally also saw the direction she was looking at. But neither of them interrupted Jiang Hui’s thoughts; they simply waited silently for her decision.
“We should…” Jiang Hui’s words remained unfinished.
“Waa—” “Don’t follow me! There are so many things outside you’re not going for, why are you following me?! I really only picked up a little bit of resources on the ground!”
Accompanied by loud shouting and exclamations, the sound of footsteps, deep and shallow, was heard approaching them, and behind it came the heavier thud of footsteps.
Someone… no, more than one person was coming in their direction—getting closer and closer.
The three of them immediately stood up from the ground, exchanged looks, scanned the area for anything, and quickly pressed themselves against the wall, trying to stay hidden.
“They’re back, we’re dead, I don’t know how to swim,” the person at the front muttered incoherently, and the footsteps from behind were getting louder.
‘Four people, the one in front is very weak, the other three are slightly weaker than me, all have thin builds…’
Listening to Huan Xian’s transmission, and hearing the increasingly closer footsteps, Jiang Hui quickly assessed the situation of the group.
Just as the person at the front was about three or four meters away, Jiang Hui suddenly lunged out and collided with them. The person in front probably hadn’t expected someone to appear suddenly out of the darkness, and they couldn’t dodge in time.
Just before crashing into the person, Jiang Hui ducked down and quickly swept her right leg to trip them, sending them crashing to the ground. The rest of the handling was left to the other two.
As for the three people chasing from behind, their steps were close and quick. In the dim tunnel, their vision was limited, so they couldn’t see much more. They only saw a figure appear suddenly ahead, and the prey they had been chasing fell to the ground in a sudden, unexpected crash.
Before the person in the front could react, he felt a powerful force strike his face. He couldn’t dodge in time and was hit with a muffled sound of impact. Immediately after, several more powerful blows followed, causing him to become disoriented and unable to tell up from down.
At the right moment, his lower body was forcibly swept to the side. With the successive attacks, he lost his balance and, driven by inertia, fell backward, taking the person behind him down to the ground as well.
The two of them, one in front and one behind, were taken out unexpectedly.
The last person, who was farther away, could see more clearly. He watched as the attackers coordinated to surround the others. Within moments, they were completely immobilized. It was truly terrifying.
He knew he couldn’t win, so naturally, he wanted to escape.
Besides, these two so-called teammates had only been kept around to serve as shields. When it came time to distribute resources, he was always left out. He had endured as much as he could and couldn’t escape, so there was no real sense of camaraderie.
If he didn’t run now, was he supposed to stay here and wait to die? He was still hoping to survive half the competition and get the highest-level subsidy, which could cover two months of living expenses. He couldn’t afford to be eliminated now.
So, he quickly turned to flee, intending to leave everything behind. But little did he know, he made a huge mistake—he exposed his back to the enemy.
Seeing Huan Xian fighting two enemies and Zhou Xiuwen taking care of the person in the front, Jiang Hui naturally didn’t miss this last one.
She directly grabbed the person’s shoulder, knocked him out with a heavy strike, and then flipped him over. She pounded her fists into his chest until the energy in his simulated chest armor was completely drained.
Taking his backpack, the three of them gathered together.
Perfect, seven star points for taking down four people. Three people were indeed much more combat-effective than two. They hadn’t expected Zhou Xiuwen to be so capable despite his seemingly delicate appearance. He had been too modest earlier, pretending to be a little lamb.
The group was pleasantly surprised when they checked the supplies. The four people’s resources were so abundant that it surpassed the total amount they had collected at the supply point earlier. That was enough to supply thirty or forty people.
Had they stumbled upon new resources? Yes, from the way the person in front had spoken, it seemed like there were more ahead…
Jiang Hui exchanged a glance with the others, and in their eyes, there was a spark of excitement.
