Chapter 31
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Episode 31: Heading Out
After parting ways with Fiera, I returned to the mansion and landed on the balcony of my room to peek inside.
Fortunately, there was only my clone in the room, so I quickly entered. The duration of a clone’s existence depends on the amount of magic power poured into it when created, and this time, my usual five days’ worth really paid off.
I approached the clone and pressed our foreheads together, transferring three days’ worth of memories into my own head.
(Ugh. It really hurts to transfer memories, huh?)
Until now, since I had always returned home within a day of leaving the mansion, there hadn’t been a need to transfer memories. But staying away for three days meant that discrepancies might arise, so I had no choice but to do it.
After confirming there were no particular issues in those three days’ memories, I only changed my clothes and headed out into the hallway.
(First, I’ll take a bath.)
Having not bathed for several days, I felt utterly disgusting and was determined to head to the bath before sleeping.
It was already noon, and maids and butlers were bustling around, but I ignored them as I made my way to the bath.
After getting out of the bath and sleeping soundly, I took a pen in hand and started writing down my future plans on paper.
“First off, I’ve accomplished my original goal of clearing the dungeon.
Next is heading out on a journey. I originally intended to rest for about a week before going, but if I believe what Aureance said, it seems I should hurry up a bit.”
She had mentioned that various difficulties would come my way in the future. Since she also said I needed to gain strength, it probably meant I currently lacked the necessary power.
If that’s the case, I need to set out on my journey sooner to acquire even greater strength than I have now.
“Then, considering Fiera’s situation, I think I should leave in three days. Next, I’ll need to talk to Father and Mother about this…”
As I jotted down items and a schedule that would likely be needed in the future, I was formulating a plan to become strong as quickly as possible.
“Lord Lewis, dinner is ready.”
Once I completed my plans, I noticed it was already dark outside, and Miria had come to fetch me for dinner.
“Got it.”
I led Miria into the dining hall and, as usual, had dinner with my parents.
After finishing the meal and taking a breath, I decided it was time to inform them both about my journey.
“Father, Mother. I have something to discuss.”
“What is it?”
“Why the formality all of a sudden?”
“Actually, I defeated the final boss of the ‘Icy Fake’ today and successfully cleared the dungeon. So, as planned, I intend to embark on my journey.”
A moment of silence ensued between my parents after hearing my words.
“Is that true?”
Father seemed to be the first to regain composure, asking for confirmation.
“Yes. I’ve already exchanged the magic stones at the guild. You can check if you’d like.”
“…I see. So when are you planning to leave?”
“In three days’ time.”
“Three days?!”
When I mentioned I’d be leaving in three days, my mother looked utterly shocked.
“Why the rush? Isn’t it alright to take it a bit slower?”
“Exactly! Three days is way too fast!”
Sure, they were right; ordinarily, I would have liked to take my time a little longer.
However, understanding that the future may not allow for that, I felt every second was precious.
“I’m sorry, but I really have something that requires my immediate attention.”
When I looked at them with a seriousness I had never shown before, they both sighed deeply, as if feeling that further protest would be futile.
“…Understood. If you need anything, just say so. We’ll prepare whatever you need.”
“Thank you.”
Expressing my gratitude to them for their understanding, I went on to explain my future plans to ease their worries.
The next day, I made my way to the inn where Fiera was staying.
It seemed she had also taken the day off and was grooming her tail in her room when I invited her to join me for a meal.
While eating the ordered food, I began to share my travel plans that I had established yesterday.
“Fiera, I’m sorry for the short notice, but I plan to set off in two days. If it seems impossible, you’re free to stay back. What do you think?”
“I’ll go.”
“Got it. I’ll prepare what’s necessary for the journey, so just get whatever personal items you need. Also, make sure to maintain your weapons.”
“Mm. Understood.”
“Oh, and sorry, but please come over to my place tomorrow. Father and Mother want to see you.”
“What time?”
“Same as last time.”
“Got it.”
After finishing our meal, we next headed towards the Adventurers’ Guild.
Since there were some familiar faces we owed our thanks to, we decided to stop by and greet them.
Upon entering the guild, we found Sheila at the reception, so we approached her first.
“Oh, Eir! Fiera! What brings you here today?”
“Hello, Sheila! We have something to discuss. Is now a good time?”
“Sure, no problem! Adventurers are scarce at this hour.”
We took Sheila with us to a nearby table and promptly conveyed our purpose for coming today.
“Actually, we’ve decided to leave for a journey for a while. We came to report and say goodbye.”
“Eh?! That’s quite sudden! Then I’ll need to hurry and prepare!”
She said that and stood up, but I didn’t understand what she meant and halted her.
“Wait, Sheila! What do you mean by prepare?”
“Didn’t I explain this? When a receptionist becomes assigned to an adventurer, they essentially become their exclusive support, so when that adventurer relocates, the rule is that they go along.
Otherwise, if something were to happen to that person, it would be impossible to respond immediately.”
Upon listening in detail, I learned that the receptionist’s top priority was their assigned adventurer, and only in the absence of that adventurer could they attend to other tasks.
If they moved their base of operations, they’d need to follow their adventurer to support their activities to the best of their ability at the new location.
“I see. I understand the rules. However, I’m sorry, but this time we’ll be going just the two of us.”
“Eh?! Why not?!”
I felt sorry for Sheila, but I explained our upcoming plans.
This time, since the objective was to go on a journey and not relocate our base, we wouldn’t be staying in one country, and we would be moving around repeatedly over the two years.
In that case, it would create quite a burden for Sheila, so I couldn’t bring her along this time.
“…I see.”
After hearing my explanation, Sheila looked a bit disappointed, so I made a proposal as a thank you for all the help she had given me.
“However, I plan to return here after two years, and after that, I’ll be active in the Imperial Capital.
So, if you’re willing, would you like to come along then?”
She had really taken care of me up until now with special rank-ups and as my point of contact.
Also, even though Sheila was young, her abilities as a receptionist were high, so I wanted her support in the future as well.
“Thank you! I would love to do that!”
After finishing my conversation with Sheila, we next went to greet Void.
He was usually busy and hard to meet, but Sheila explained the situation and set up the meeting.
“Long time no see, Eir! And nice to meet you, Fiera!”
“It’s been a while!”
“Hi there!”
After a quick greeting, we sat on the sofa and shared the story of our journey, just like we had with Sheila.
“I see. It’s sad to see strong kids like you leave, but it’s also a good idea to explore while you’re young… Ah, take this with you.”
Void said that and pulled a bag from his desk drawer.
Seeing that, I couldn’t help but gasp in surprise and ask again.
“This is a magic bag, right? You’re really giving us such a valuable item…?”
Magic bags are rare items that are sometimes found in SS-level dungeons, imbued with spatial magic.
Thus, they can hold more items than they appear to be able to.
“No worries. I won’t have any use for it anymore. It’s better for it to be used by promising kids like you.”
“Thank you very much!”
Having received such a valuable item from Void, I also took the opportunity to ask for his opinions on my future travels, combining it with his past experiences.
After parting ways with Fiera, I returned to the mansion, where it was completely dark outside.
Still feeling the fatigue from the dungeon, I rolled around on my bed to rest, when Miria knocked and entered my room.
“Lord Lewis, do you have a moment?”
“Huh? What is it?”
“I have a favor to ask.”
I was surprised to hear her request, something she had never done before, and as I sat up facing her, I felt curious about what it could be.
“I would like to accompany you on your journey.”
Upon hearing Miria’s words, I was so astonished that I couldn’t respond immediately, and the room fell silent.
