Chapter 35
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Adventure Chapter
Episode 35: The Adonia Territory
A week had passed since Fiera and I left the Duke’s territory.
We had now arrived at the Adonia Barony, located to the east of the Duke’s territory.
Normally, it would take about half a month to reach here by carriage, but we were able to arrive in this time because we had been using body enhancement to keep running during the day.
“We finally made it!”
“Yeah. But it was fun. Plus, El’s cooking is delicious!”
“Thanks a lot.”
As Fiera said this, her tail wagged with great cheer, making me doubt whether she actually found it enjoyable. I, however, was just glad to be free and couldn’t quite focus on the fun.
(Fiera… I can’t believe she was that terrible at cooking.)
On our first night of traveling, Fiera offered to cook using animals and wild herbs, but it turned out to be a disaster.
It looked like an ordinary soup, yet it tasted horrifically similar to the magic power organs of monsters.
I nearly gagged on the spot but couldn’t escape the hopeful gaze in Fiera’s eyes, forcing me to endure and swallow it down.
“How is it?”
“I-it’s good… right?”
“Really? Great!”
She said this and without hesitation started gulping it down, finishing it quickly before going for another serving.
(Am I the crazy one? Or is it her?)
I lost track of what was odd, but as long as I could get it down, I decided I would just finish it.
However, I thought it was impossible to eat that every day, so from the next day onward, I took over cooking.
(Thanks to that, my cooking skills improved!)
Feeling adept in the kitchen, I gazed at the blue sky and let out a dry laugh.
Upon entering the Adonia Barony, we set off to find an inn where we would stay for the night.
If we didn’t find a place to stay soon, there was a chance we wouldn’t find a room at night.
“How about this one?”
“Yeah, it looks good.”
The inn I picked had a decent exterior and was relatively close to the Adventurers’ Guild.
“Welcome!”
Once inside, a woman in her mid-twenties greeted us at the reception.
“We’d like to stay. Do you have any rooms available?”
“Of course! Would you like two rooms?”
“Yes… wait!”
Just as I was about to say that, Fiera stepped forward from behind me and said something incredibly silly.
“What did you just say?”
“Two rooms would be fine.”
“Are you an idiot? If we can get two rooms, let’s take them. Why are we sharing a room?”
“To save money!”
“We’re not breaking the bank here!”
Having challenged several dungeons in the Duke’s territory, we had more than enough gold, meaning we didn’t need to squeeze our budget like that.
Even as we argued back and forth, the receptionist grew impatient and handed us only one key.
“Could you two figure it out in your room?”
“Yes!”
With a bright smile, she spoke, and we could only nod under the mysterious pressure she emanated.
Once inside our room, I collapsed onto the bed, exhausted.
“Tired?”
“Who do you think caused it?”
“Did you dislike it that much?”
Her ears drooped, and her tail lost its energy as she said this.
“Ugh, fine. Don’t let it get to you.”
Seeing her like this made me unable to push my point any further, and besides, we couldn’t change what had been settled.
“Thanks.”
As I said this with acceptance, Fiera’s tail perked up again, as if the previous reaction was a lie.
(Ah, dealing with people is such a hassle.)
Watching her, I once again felt the annoyance of interacting with others.
After a little rest in the room, we decided to head to the Adventurers’ Guild.
Since we planned to take on requests here for the next few days, we wanted to check out what kind of requests were available.
As we entered the guild, we noticed several men drinking alcohol in the daytime, turning their attention toward us.
(I have a feeling this is going to lead to trouble.)
Among the men casting gazes our way, some seemed to be undressing Fiera with their eyes, allowing me to imagine how the situation might unfold.
Ignoring their stares for now, we walked over to the bulletin board to look at the requests.
“Oh, there are some pretty good ones.”
“Yeah. There are some strong-looking monsters.”
“Well, this is on the edge of the Empire.”
The Adonia Barony was situated next to a large forest filled with numerous monsters.
On the other side of that forest lay the Kingdom of Amphisen, a country that didn’t quite get along with the Empire.
However, the forest in between kept them from going to war, at least for now.
Also, monsters occasionally overflow from that forest, so requests for monster extermination were quite common here in Adonia.
“Look for something good. I’ll go talk to the receptionist.”
“Got it.”
I left the requests to Fiera and approached the reception desk to gather more information about the guild.
“Hello! How can I help you?”
“Nice to meet you. I just arrived in this town today, and I want to learn about the guild.”
“Certainly! First, let me explain the requests available at our guild.
We mainly offer requests for monster extermination, and we have a considerable number of high-rank requests.
Next, we also have herb gathering requests, but not many people take them.”
“Why is that?”
“The main reason is that killing monsters pays better. Also, this town doesn’t have many beginner adventurers. Since there are a lot of monster extermination requests, it’s tough for beginners to make a living here.
As a result, there aren’t many people taking herb gathering requests, leading to a continued shortage of materials.
Thus, we pay a higher reward for herb gathering requests than usual, so I would be glad if you could consider taking them!”
“Understood.”
“Next, let me tell you about the facilities. Here at the reception where I am, we also have a monster disassembly area and a training area in the back.
You can bring fangs or claws here for us to take care of, but if you’re working with larger monster meat, please take it to the disassembly area.
The fees will differ based on whether you do the disassembly yourself or if you ask a staff member to do it, so let us know.”
“Okay.”
The receptionist continued explaining various aspects of the guild and the town, giving recommendations for restaurants and weapon shops.
“Thank you! This was really helpful.”
“Oh, it’s no trouble at all. Do you have any other questions?”
“Yes, could you tell me what happens if a fight breaks out in the guild?”
“We typically remain uninvolved in fights within the guild. Also, anyone who uses a weapon or magic first will face punishment. In that case, the other side is considered to be acting in self-defense, so they won’t face any penalties.”
“What if a drawn weapon causes the other party to defeat the attacker and steal their equipment or money?”
“In that situation, there wouldn’t be any penalties either. I suppose you could say it’s treated as compensation, so there’s no need to worry.”
“Got it.”
Having finally asked all I needed to, I thanked the receptionist and returned to Fiera.
As expected, Fiera was surrounded by four men, indicating that trouble was brewing.
“El! Help!”
“……”
When Fiera saw me returning, she sought help, seemingly unfazed.
(What is she doing?)
“El! Help!”
“No, you should handle this yourself…”
“Help me!”
I didn’t quite understand why she was acting this way, but since the men were now aware of me and Fiera seemed unwilling to budge, I reluctantly decided to play along.
“Hey you guys, what do you want with my comrade?”
“Huh? What do you want, brat! We’re inviting this girl to our party! You’re not welcome!”
“Yeah! We don’t need weaklings like you! Go home and take a nap!”
Looking at these guys, they seemed to be around C rank and didn’t appear strong enough to even be a match for us.
Having lost interest in dealing with them, I decided to provoke them a little, hoping they would strike first.
“What are you idiots barking at, being weaker than me? You can’t even carry my gear, so get lost already!”
“You little brat!”
The hot-headed guys quickly drew their swords and lunged at me, but I cast gravity magic to pin them to the ground.
“Guh!”
“M-Magic! And without chanting!”
I crouched in front of the men who were flattened on the ground, increasing the gravity on them while staring with killing intent.
In that moment, I could hear several bones cracking under the pressure.
“Do you get it? There is a difference in caliber between you and me. So don’t get involved with us anymore. Got it?”
The men shook and nodded under my murderous aura.
I took the opportunity to collect some ‘compensation’ from their pockets, grabbed Fiera, and left the guild.
“El! Thank you!”
“Fiera. I won’t entertain those theatrics again. From now on, handle the weaker ones yourself.”
“Yeah. I understand.”
With a light glare, I showed her my intent for her to manage those kinds of situations alone next time, and she quickly nodded in agreement.
After that, we didn’t make any detours and headed straight back to the inn.
