Three days after picking up a package named Shuvina, we finally arrived at the coastal city of Minerva, located at the southern tip of the Ruzenia Empire.
Despite it still being winter, it was warm here, unlike the northern Valentine Duchy, and the scent of the sea wafted through on the breeze.
Minerva is the hub of maritime trade in our empire, bustling with items brought from various continents and countries.
As a result, we’re able to constantly come into contact with the latest goods, and we can also try unique foods and dishes.
It’s said that the trends of the empire are carried along with the sea breeze of Minerva. It’s such an important place for the empire.
So here we are in enticing Minerva, but the past three days since picking up Shuvina have been quite exhausting, mainly due to her insane food consumption.
Despite her slender frame, she eats more than double what we do, which left even me dumbfounded.
(This girl is definitely the type to blow all her money on food.)
Our journey with this huge eater ends today, as we pass through the checkpoint and prepare to part ways.
“Thank you both for everything,” she said.
“Yeah. I had fun too, so don’t worry about it,” Fiera replied.
Having gotten pretty close over the past few days, Fiera and Shuvina shared a handshake to bid farewell.
As I watched the two from behind, Shuvina approached me and extended her hand.
“What is it?”
“A handshake. Since we’re parting here, isn’t it nice to do this at least once?”
“…Fine, I get it.”
It didn’t take long during these three days for me to understand that once she sets her mind on something, she won’t back down until it’s done. Thus, I reluctantly shook her hand.
“Hehe. Let’s meet again somewhere! Bye-bye!”
With that final word, Shuvina ran off into the bustling streets.
Fiera turned to look at the direction Shuvina had gone for a moment before turning back to me, suggesting we find a place to stay.
“Hey, if you wanted to be with her, you could have followed her, you know?”
I said this instinctively to Fiera, who looked a bit down after parting with Shuvina.
I know she has feelings for me, and I also realize my comment was somewhat thoughtless, but I wasn’t going to stop her if she wanted to accompany someone else since I hadn’t invited Fiera on this journey.
“It’s okay. I’m going to stick with El.”
“Oh, is that so?”
I said that as I started walking to find an inn, with Fiera walking alongside me.
Afterward, we booked two rooms at a fairly decent inn that had baths, then each headed to our separate rooms to rest a bit.
A little past noon, Fiera knocked on my room door and came in.
“What’s up?”
“I’m hungry.”
It was indeed the perfect time, so we changed out of our usual adventurer gear into something more comfortable and headed outside.
“El, what are we going to eat?”
“Ah, there’s something I’ve been looking forward to eating since we got here. We’re going to a place that serves it.”
We walked for a while until we arrived at a seafood restaurant, where there was quite a line out front.
“This is the place.”
“Here?”
“The local specialty is seafood dishes made with fresh catch from the sea, and specifically, the sashimi is famed for being delicious.”
“Sashimi…”
“How about it? Does it pique your interest?”
“Yeah, I really want to try it.”
“Okay, then let’s line up.”
We took our place at the end of the queue, and about 30 minutes later, we made it inside.
“Welcome! What would you like to order?”
“I’ll have today’s recommendation.”
“I’ll have the same.”
“Understood!”
The staff took our orders and hurried off to the kitchen.
As I waited excitedly for the dish to arrive, I noticed Fiera sitting across from me, her ears and tail waving back and forth in excitement.
(Seeing it like this, her ears and tail sure are honest and easy to read.)
Fiera usually doesn’t show much of an expression, making it hard to know what she’s thinking, but her ears and tail move so clearly with her emotions, revealing she’s actually quite expressive.
(I’ve been here long enough to pick up on that.)
Thinking it over, I realized that, adding in my past life, Fiera might be the person I’ve spent the longest time with.
Considering this, I wondered if I felt a bit special toward her.
(…No, that can’t be it.)
I briefly entertained that thought but ultimately concluded that my fundamental reluctance to form relationships hasn’t changed, so it’s unlikely that I would suddenly be so easy to influence.
Then our eyes met, and Fiera continued gazing at me.
“What’s up?”
“Do you want to touch it?”
Saying this, Fiera placed her tail on her lap and patted it.
“I’ll let you touch it later.”
“…Thanks for that.”
Perhaps I had been staring at her tail for too long because Fiera said that, but the fact remains that her tail is nice to touch, so I decided I’d get to that later.
A little while later, the staff returned with our recommended sashimi and set it on the table. We used the chopsticks awkwardly and dipped it lightly into soy sauce before taking a bite.
“Delicious!”
“Tasty!”
I had eaten fish dishes plenty of times in the mansion, but it was mostly grilled or steamed fish. This was my first time eating it raw like this.
I took some wasabi from the sashimi plate, mixed it into the soy sauce, and then dipped another piece of sashimi into it. The perfect spicy kick and refreshing flavor spread across my palate—it was wonderfully tasty.
“What’s that green stuff?”
“This? That’s wasabi. If you mix it with soy sauce and dip it in sashimi, it’s delicious.”
“I see.”
Fiera said this and then took all the wasabi from her plate and mixed it into her soy sauce.
“Hey, if you add that much…”
Before I could warn her it was spicy, Fiera had already dipped a piece of sashimi into her soy sauce brimming with wasabi and popped it into her mouth.
“Gah—!!!”
Even Fiera, with her odd taste buds, couldn’t bear the heat this time. She flapped her tail around anxiously, teary-eyed, pressing the bridge of her nose.
“Seriously. This is why you should listen to people to the end… Here, drink this.”
I passed her a glass of water, and she eagerly gulped it down.
Yet it seemed she still couldn’t shake off the sting, as she remained in distress for a bit.
“Haah, haah.”
“Are you feeling calm now?”
Fiera nodded eagerly, glaring resentfully at her soy sauce filled with wasabi, pondering what to do next.
“Wasabi… that’s scary.”
“No, you just used too much.”
After such pointless banter, I called over the staff and had them replace Fiera’s soy sauce plate.
“Don’t overdo it this time.”
“I won’t put any more in.”
It seemed she was really traumatized by the wasabi, as after that, she didn’t touch it at all and just ate the sashimi with plain soy sauce.
“If only there was wasabi, this would be so much tastier.”
Murmuring to myself, I continued to enjoy the meal while savoring the remaining sashimi.
After we finished our meal, we took a short stroll through the lively streets before returning to the inn. Once in my room, we gathered to discuss our plans for the next day.
“About our plans after tomorrow, first, we’re going to the guild.”
“Okay.”
“Then we’ll get permission to dive into the dungeon right away and head there.”
Actually, this coastal city of Minerva is popular among adventurers not just for its maritime trade but because it also has dungeons.
“Are we going to buy items?”
“No, we still have leftover supplies from the last trip, so we’re fine this time. If we run out, we can buy more later.”
“Got it.”
“Is there anything else?”
“What about our stay?”
“We’re thinking about two to three weeks. That should be enough to tackle the dungeon.”
After that, since Fiera had no further questions, our discussion wrapped up. As promised during lunch, we leisurely relaxed while I pampered her tail.
