Chapter 60
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Episode 60: White Whale
~side Viola~
When Viola and the others parted ways with Eir and entered through the large door, a sprawling room awaited them inside.
“Everyone, stay alert. We don’t know where the boss will appear from. Sera, please buff everyone!”
Upon Viola’s command, the backline members Aishira, Sera, and Illya moved back, while Viola and Sati advanced to the front.
Sera immediately began chanting spells, casting buffs for attack power, presence detection, magic power increase, and defense enhancement.
After about three minutes of keeping watch, the room suddenly filled with mist, rapidly obscuring their surroundings.
“Viola. What should we do?”
“Don’t move yet; stay alert. It’s not wise to move recklessly in this mist.”
As Viola continued issuing warnings and keeping an eye on their surroundings, she sensed a slight disturbance in the mist.
Then, what Viola and the others saw was…
“An eyeball…?”
In the mist, a large, red eye peered at them intently.
“Kyahhh!”
“Sera!”
The moment the eye shifted and disappeared, Sera’s figure, who had been right behind them, vanished as well.
“What in the world is going on?”
“Uwaaah!!”
“Sati!”
While Viola was looking back, Sati, who was supposed to be next to her, also vanished, leaving only her voice behind.
Before long, Aishira and Illya had also disappeared, leaving Viola completely alone.
“What the heck is going on? What’s in this mist?”
In the thick fog, Viola felt entirely lost, unsure of what to watch out for. She gripped her sword, trembling with fear.
“Ah…”
Before she knew it, the large eyeball she had seen earlier appeared right in front of her and stared intently before a violent force hit her, flinging her body away.
“Guah!”
Viola tumbled multiple times on the ground and came to a stop, her back crashing against the wall, where Sera lay, her arm broken and gravely injured.
Thanks to the defense buffs, Sera was somehow still alive, but she was in a critical state and needed immediate medical attention.
As Viola contemplated what to do about her, that same large eyeball continued to stare at them closely.
“What are we supposed to do…”
Just as Viola began to regret that forcing the advance might lead to everyone’s deaths, the sound of a door that should have been sealed resonated throughout the room.
~side Lewis~
Upon entering the room, an unusual space spread out before us.
The air was thick with mist, making visibility so poor that even a meter ahead was barely discernible.
“What is going on here?”
It was unclear whether this mist was caused by monsters or a feature of the dungeon core, but it seemed to have an obstructive effect on detection-type magic.
“I see. The route we’ve taken so far has been a setup for this room.”
The magical interference that began with the boss on the 20th floor, and all the effects that disrupted magic—everything seemed to serve as a setup against this foe that couldn’t be defeated relying solely on magic.
“Fiera, how about you?”
“No problems. I can somewhat grasp the positions and presence.”
“Good. Then first we need to figure out how to deal with this mist.” Just as I was about to say this, a gigantic eye suddenly appeared right in front of us.
“Is this the enemy?”
The moment we recognized it as a foe, I felt a huge presence approaching from behind and quickly moved away from the spot.
As I dodged, I caught a glimpse of a large, flat object rushing past where we had just stood, stirring up the air.
“Is that a fin?”
I still had no idea what resided in this room, but for now, we had to tackle the mist. I quickly issued commands to Fiera.
“Fiera, I’m going to clear the mist with the flames of my magic sword. But it’ll take a lot of magic power and time, so…”
“Leave it to me.”
With that, she immediately kicked off the ground and disappeared into the mist.
“… Seriously, you’re a reliable one.”
Then it seemed a battle began between Fiera and the monsters, as sounds of combat erupted from various spots.
“Alright. Ignido, we’re in it too.”
I tightened my grip on the hilt and began channeling magic power into Ignido.
Then, the blade of Ignido blazed with red flames, shifting into orange, yellow, and finally blue.
“Bloom wildly and incinerate. ‘Azure Flame’s Great Flower.'”
I plunged the blazing, blue-flame Ignido into the ground, and azure flames spread throughout the room, evaporating the mist away.
This technique expands the attack range based on the amount of magical power poured in, centered on where I stabbed Ignido.
Its primary feature is the ability to select what I burn, and in this case, I focused on the room’s boss and the mist.
The downside is that I can’t move while the skill is active, but since the target is already burning, getting close wouldn’t be feasible anyway, so it’s not much of a drawback.
“…Not too hot.”
Both Fiera and the boss halted at the spectacle of flames spreading through the room and were consumed by the blue flames.
However, Fiera remained unaffected, while the monster writhed in agony engulfed by the azure flames.
And as the fire reached the walls of the room, my eyes landed on Viola and the others, who were slumped against the wall, exhausted.
“Fiera, get them healing potions.”
“Understood.”
As I passed her a magic bag while she headed off, I faced the now-suffering monster.
“I see. This thing is indeed huge.”
Before me floated a white whale about 30 meters long, hovering as if it were swimming through water.
“But how did it move so swiftly with that giant body?”
Not knowing the species magic of the white whale, I thought it best to observe for now.
Then, as the effect of the ‘Azure Flame’s Great Flower’ wore off, the white whale exhaled mist again, seeking to engulf the room once more.
“I see. So that mist came from it.”
“Everyone’s safe here.”
“Good.”
As I continued to analyze the white whale, Fiera returned from tending to Viola and the others.
“How was it fighting that thing?”
“Not that high in defense. But its movements are strange. It appears out of nowhere as if it’s teleporting.”
“Teleporting, huh…”
If that’s its species magic, then it’ll be quite the troublesome enemy.
I cast a barrier spell on the group of Viola that Fiera gathered, while carefully watching the mist gradually covering our vision again.
“Hey, Fiera. Let me tell you one of my favorite things.”
“What is it?”
“It’s this: when fighting, I prefer to do it in the opponent’s arena.”
If the enemy excels in aerial combat, I’d take it to the skies; if they’re great with swords, I’d fight them with swords; if magic is their forte, then it’d be a magic battle. I liked to stand on their ground and directly challenge them with their own methods.
Ordinarily, the stronger someone is, the more pride and confidence they have in their fighting style, sticking to their way of combat despite who their opponent is.
However, my way of thinking was the opposite. I was always the challenger, constantly aiming for higher heights in battle.
So, instead of getting fixated on one fighting style and shutting down other possibilities, I sought to stand on the same ground and steal my opponent’s moves and techniques to foster my own growth.
Moreover, with my endless life of rewinding after death, even if I were to die, I could still utilize the experience in the next life.
“Heh. El, you look like you’re having fun.”
“Yeah. It’s a blast.”
With a grin, I continued to watch as the mist shrouded the room once more, eagerly anticipating this unknown formidable enemy.
“Now then, can you kill me?”
