The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide

Episode 89: The Final Lesson

~Side Shuvina~

As Fiera began her battle with Zeid, Shuvina coated her arrows with paralysis poison, capturing enemies one after another.

“Phew. I’ve managed to catch quite a few.”

Shuvina wasn’t as fast as Fiera, but thanks to her trained skills as a marksman, she was taking down assassins just as effectively.

That said, most were focused on Sonia, so she was only facing about six of them.

“It’s about time to move… Dōna?”

As Shuvina prepared to search for the next assassin, Dōna, who was moving alongside her, suddenly sprang into action, creating thick roots behind Shuvina.

Hearing something hit the roots, Shuvina quickly crouched down to hide.

“Seems like the enemy is targeting me. Thanks, Dōna.”

After thanking Dōna, Shuvina used wind magic to sense the subtle currents around her, but there was nothing out of the ordinary.

“That’s strange. Where could they be?”

Currently, her search radius was about 40 meters, which was ample space in this forest full of obstacles.

However, no matter how hard she concentrated, she couldn’t detect any enemy presence, leaving Shuvina in a dilemma.

(There are two possible scenarios. The enemy might be attacking from outside my search area, or they could be using some special magic or weapon… There’s no choice but to test it.)

Deciding she needed more information, Shuvina instructed Dōna to eliminate the roots.

“Dōna. If an attack comes that I can’t notice, please protect me like you did earlier.”

Nodding!

After giving Dōna the next order, Shuvina cautiously moved through the forest, and after a while, Dōna cast a spell, causing roots to appear behind her.

“Thank you, Dōna.”

Once secured by Dōna, Shuvina again concealed herself behind a tree while contemplating the earlier attack.

(I realized I was attacked by the wind, but I couldn’t see it. So that means they might be using invisible bows or arrows. How troublesome.)

An invisible attack was indeed troublesome, but it also provided her with one clear piece of information.

“Even if the attack was invisible, I now know the enemy’s location. Then it’s time for counterattack.”

Using her wind detection magic, Shuvina figured out where the invisible arrows had been launched from.

“It’s on the tree about 18 meters to the right from here.”

Peeking from behind the tree, there appeared to be an opening among the branches wide enough for an arrow to fit through.

“I guess I have no choice.”

Shuvina nocked an arrow to her bow, regulated her breathing, and stepped out from the tree’s shadow.

Then, without hesitation, she shot the arrow in a swift motion, directing it precisely along the identified path.

“Oh? It dodged!”

While reading the wind, she noticed that her arrow was avoided just before it could hit the enemy.

Moreover, the enemy seemed to be hiding their appearance through some means, as there were no changes to the wind’s movements observed at the moment.

“Oh? I was curious about who might be attacking me, but it turns out you’re not a child at all.”

Suddenly, she heard a voice from above as she glanced up to find a woman with red hair tied up like a hunter.

“Was that attack yours?”

“Yes, indeed! I was curious about who could not only block my invisible arrows but also retaliate, but seeing that you’re just a kid… how disappointing.”

Saying this, the woman leaped down from the tree, quietly approaching Shuvina.

“Hmm, so you’re an elf.”

“What of it?”

“Nothing much. It’s just that I’ve never killed an elf before, so I’m rather looking forward to it. How about we make a game out of this encounter?”

“A game?”

“Sure. Killing you right away would be boring, and since we both use bows, let’s have a contest at a distance. How about roughly a 150-meter radius from here?”

“What’s the point of that? We could just end things right here!”

“Ahaha! Of course, it’s because it sounds fun! I do carry out assassinations, but I mostly enjoy hunting. Chasing down and killing a fleeing target is much more thrilling, don’t you agree?

So do your best not to be killed right away. Good luck!”

With that, the woman finished her remarks and leaped back into the trees, vanishing from sight.

“Hey! I didn’t say I’d play yet! And who are you… sigh, I guess there’s no helping it.”

Though she didn’t enjoy fighting as much as Lewis or Fiera, the fact that her friend Sonia was being targeted shifted Shuvina’s mindset into action.

“I’ll do it, Dōna. Let’s show them how much we’ve grown!”

With those words, Shuvina began moving with Dōna to capture the assassin who had disappeared without even introducing herself.

~Side Lewis~

After Fiera and Shuvina disappeared deeper into the forest, a myriad of assassins had gathered around Lewis and Sonia.

Surrounding them, the assassins brandished a variety of weapons, from daggers and bows to gauntlets.

(About 20 of them, give or take.)

“Kid. If you run away leaving the girl behind, I’ll let you off the hook. So hand her over to us.”

As Lewis assessed the number of opponents, the man in front of him, armed with a dagger, demanded he surrender Sonia.

“E-Eir. This is way too many! There’s nothing we can do with just the two of us… I’ll go over there, so you escape!”

Sonia, fully aware she was the target, still insisted on sacrificing herself to save him.

Yet, Lewis showed no sign of fear toward the assassins; instead, he wore a gleeful grin.

“Not an issue. These guys are no match for me.”

“W-What are you talking about, Eir?!”

“Oh? That confidence in front of us. If you’re just posturing in front of a girl, you’re going to regret it.”

“Ha ha! Just come at me. I’ll toy with you.”

“Tch. Don’t get cocky. You lot! Take them both out!”

As the man ordered, the surrounding assassins brandished their weapons and charged in, but Lewis didn’t draw his weapon. Instead, he unleashed the magic power he’d been brewing.

“Sonia, watch closely. This is the last spell I’ll teach you.”

“Huh?”

“‘Abyssal Door: Arms’!”

As Lewis cast the spell, a pitch-black door appeared in the ground, casting a shadow over the assassins’ feet.

“Seize them!”

“W-What?!”

“Yikes?! My arm!!”

As the door opened, numerous black arms stretched out from within, grasping the assassins’ legs and arms.

Then, those captured by the arms were dragged toward the door, disappearing within.

“S-Spectacular…”

Abyssal Door: Arms is a high-tier dark magic, combining the Abyssal Door with black hands from the same school. It was a spell future Sonia excelled at.

Normally, the Abyssal Door opens a portal anywhere, sealing enemies inside and erasing their existence.

The spell Lewis used was an original technique created by future Sonia, wherein arms emerged from the door to grasp and drag foes inside.

It’s a harsh but compassionate spell that ensures not a single enemy escapes, while guaranteeing the safety of allies.

(Normally they’d just vanish, but since the goal is capture this time, I made sure they only lost consciousness.)

Once Lewis released the spell, about 20 men were left fainted on the ground.

He tossed them into a cage made of earth magic, then waited for the last one to arrive.

“D-Done already?”

“Not yet.”

“What? Did they all get taken down? How pathetic!”

A large man over two meters tall, with an impressively muscular build covered in countless scars, appeared, brandishing a massive war axe on his shoulder.

(This guy’s strong.)

“Did you take care of them?”

“Yep.”

“I see. That explains why they lost. You’re quite strong, aren’t you?”

“Well, I’m decent. I still aim to rise higher, though.”

“Gah ha ha! I see! Then why don’t you fight me next? Honestly, I was disappointed to hear it was just a job to kill some kid!”

“Glad to hear it. If I had only faced off against weaklings, I’d be bored to death.”

“Gah ha ha! I don’t dislike a spirited one! I’m Aido! Let’s have some fun, alright?”

“I’m Eir. Do you think you can kill me?”

As Aido took his stance, Lewis stood relaxed and unarmed, locking eyes with Aido, focusing solely on each other, forgetting about Sonia.

Thus, the battle between two who would be etched in Sonia’s memory forever began at this very moment.
