Chapter 90
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Episode 90: No Mercy
~Side Fiera~
Fiera was currently in a one-sided defensive battle against Zaido.
(I don’t understand. How is he moving?)
At the beginning of their fight, Fiera managed to fend off Zaido’s attacks and even counterattack at times. However, as time went on, she couldn’t read his movements anymore and could only rely on her instincts to avoid his strikes.
As a result, her body was riddled with cuts from his daggers, and blood flowed from numerous wounds.
“Impressive, beastman. Rarely does someone withstand my attacks this long.”
Zaido appeared a short distance away from Fiera, twirling his dagger in his right hand while looking at her with admiration.
“What are you doing?”
“Ha-ha! You shouldn’t ask the enemy that! It’s like telling them you don’t understand anything!”
Indeed, as Zaido said, asking an enemy about their attack methods is akin to revealing one’s ignorance about those attacks.
However, Fiera was panicking to the point of acting foolishly in this one-sided battle.
(What should I do?)
While narrowly dodging Zaido’s attacks, Fiera was consumed by thoughts of how to turn the tide.
(What would El do in this situation? He would… He would surely…)
“…Observe calmly.”
Amidst this dire crisis, Fiera sought to think not about why she couldn’t see his movements, but what her most trusted ally, Lewis, would do.
Arriving at the conclusion that he would observe each of his opponent’s moves and adapt that knowledge for his growth, Fiera took a deep breath as soon as Zaido’s attacks ceased.
“Phew.”
Suddenly, the panic in her mind dissipated, and she began to see Zaido’s movements clearly.
(Ah, this is exhilarating. So much fun!)
In response to Fiera’s newfound composure, Zaido was filled with an exhilarating thrill he had never felt before.
He had assassinated many people using this technique, but he had never faced an enemy who could withstand his attacks to this extent.
Thus, the prospect of fully employing his skills made this fight exceptionally enjoyable for him.
While avoiding Zaido’s techniques, Fiera calmly analyzed his attacks.
(I can see his movements clearly. I can even perceive when he takes a step. Yet, the moment he takes that first step, he appears in my blind spot… blind spot?)
Having continued to dodge Zaido’s attacks, Fiera finally arrived at a possible understanding of his method.
The instant Zaido’s assault paused, she created some distance and gathered her magic power, intently watching his movements.
“What are you gazing at so intently? Are you perhaps interested in me?”
“Not a chance.”
“How disappointing. I was starting to take an interest in you.”
Disregarding Zaido’s words, Fiera kept observing his magical movements.
Even as she blinked, she continued to channel magic into her eyes, watching until her eyes closed.
Then, just as she attempted to blink, Zaido appeared in Fiera’s blind spot and swung down his dagger as before.
(Just as I thought.)
Rolling on the ground to evade the attack, Fiera decided to confirm her suspicions by speaking up to Zaido.
“I finally understood your attack.”
“Oh? I might as well hear it then. How did you figure it out?”
“You utilize the moment I blink and my gaze shifts to move into my blind spot to attack.
The spinning of the dagger was to lure my eyes toward it.
Even when moving, you don’t constantly use body enhancement, instead using it only at the moment of movement, creating an impression of speed by contrasting it with your previously slow movements.”
“Ha-ha-ha-ha!!”
Upon confidently stating her conclusions about Zaido’s movements, he laughed joyfully.
“Correct. As long as a living being exists, a blind spot will inevitably arise at some point. The moment you blink, when you concentrate on something, or when you become distracted.
I never miss those blind spots. The moment they appear, I slip into them and take a life.
As for body enhancement, it doesn’t need to be constantly activated.
Each of my movements captivates the opponent’s consciousness and eyes, creating a blind spot, and I reap their lives in that instant. It’s really quite simple, wouldn’t you say?”
Certainly, what he was doing may be simple, but the execution of his technique was extraordinarily high-level and not something one could easily mimic.
Moving in sync with the moment an opponent blinks, he only uses body enhancement at the last possible moment before the opponent notices.
Each of his techniques seemed to exude the experience he had gathered as an assassin.
“Impressive. But… it won’t work on me anymore.”
With those words, Fiera transformed not into her partial beast form as before, but perfectly into her beast form.
Though she had trained with Shuvina and Sonia, she had never slacked off on her own training.
And just about a fortnight ago, she had finally attained the ability to transform into her beast form in an instant, even if just for a short time.
“Hmm? Then let’s test it out.”
As Zaido said this, he sought out Fiera’s blind spot again, closing the distance the moment he found it.
Fiera didn’t show any intent to search for Zaido or to evade his attack like before. Zaido dashed around to get behind her and swung his dagger horizontally.
However…
At the moment Zaido tried to decapitate Fiera, a sound like metal clashing rang through the forest.
“Huh?”
Thinking he had successfully severed her head, Zaido found his dagger’s blade halted by Fiera’s transformed arm, and she didn’t even look at him. It seemed as though she had anticipated his attack.
“Futile. Even if you strike from my blind spot, my body will instinctively react. Your attacks no longer work on me.”
With the experience she had accumulated plus her transformation, Fiera’s senses were sharpened to the extreme, capturing even the slightest movements in the air perfectly.
Thus, even if Zaido attempted to attack from her blind spot, the movement of objects would always create airflow, causing Fiera’s body to react involuntarily.
“What nonsense.”
Realizing that his attacks truly had no effect, Zaido inadvertently let slip his true feelings of indignation.
“Now it’s my turn.”
The moment Fiera said that, she vanished from sight, as if she had disappeared, and aimed a kick at Zaido’s temple.
“Whoa!?!”
Pulling from his experience, Zaido managed to crouch and avoid the attack, but the gust from her foot sent him rolling on the ground.
“Ouch! No way, this is absurd. I can’t see anything!”
Immediately getting back on his feet, he looked toward Fiera, only to find she was no longer where she had been. Before he knew it, she had circle around behind him.
“This is the end.”
“Stop!!”
Fiera tried to strike Zaido’s heart with her palm, but he called for a halt, stopping just a few centimeters short of her target.
“I surrender! I give up! There’s no way I can win if I can’t see any of your movements!”
Zaido exclaimed, dropping the dagger in his hand and raising both arms in a gesture of surrender.
“Understood.”
As Fiera relaxed her stance and stepped back, Zaido fell to the ground, lying down.
“Ah, I’m exhausted. Fighting seriously is tough. I want to go home… Oh wait, I can’t. Ugh, I really shouldn’t have accepted this job.”
“Why did you take it?”
“The reward was good. Sigh, this is the worst. What’s going to happen to me now?”
“First, you’ll wear this.”
Fiera said, pulling out something resembling a collar from her magic bag and crouching to put it around Zaido’s neck.
“What’s this?”
“A magic power sealing collar.”
“…You’re quite prepared. What’s next?”
“Like this.”
Next, Fiera tied Zaido’s hands and feet with ropes, holding the excess with one hand.
“No way…”
“I’m taking you with me.”
“No! Wait! Just walk normally! I can walk, so please!”
(I can’t wait to see El. I can’t wait to get praised by him.)
With her mind solely on meeting Lewis and being commended, Fiera regrettably ignored Zaido’s pleas. He was dragged deeper into the forest.
