Chapter 91
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Chapter 91: To Win
~Side Shuvina~
While Fiera was being tossed around by Zaid’s attacks, Shuvina was also unable to counter the female hunter.
“Seriously! How many traps are set up here? And invisible arrows? Isn’t that just cheating?!”
Indeed. Shuvina was currently running around like a hunted animal, desperately dodging the traps and invisible arrows set to catch her.
(I can somewhat deal with the arrows by reading the wind, but these traps are a bit troublesome.)
She had no idea when they had been set, but grasses tied to ensnare her feet were hidden everywhere, and above her head were nets made from vines.
In addition to that, there were various traps like pitfalls and falling rocks concealed all around.
“I want to counterattack somehow, but every time I try to aim, arrows come flying from another direction! What am I supposed to do… Aah!”
Just as she was pondering how to retaliate, an invisible arrow shot out from deep within the forest as if it could see her.
The arrow grazed Shuvina’s arm, sending a tingling sensation through it.
(This is a quick-acting nerve poison. I need to detoxify quickly.)
Shuvina asked Dōna to tie her arm with vines and, while enduring the pain, squeezed out the blood to detoxify herself.
(There’s still a bit of numbness left, but I should be able to manage this.)
“Hey, hey! This is what you get for daydreaming, isn’t it? If you don’t hurry and run, you might die next time, my little bunny!”
As Shuvina opened and closed her hands, checking her sense of feeling, the female hunter, coming to check on her, shouted from high up in a tree before disappearing again.
“I can’t believe how infuriating this is. I’ve never been this angry before!”
There had been many hardships and frustrations in her life, but Shuvina had always kept her chin up and tried her best.
But to be mocked and chased around like an animal was a first for her, and more than anything, she was frustrated at exposing such a pathetic side of herself after being trained by Lewis and Fiera.
“At this rate, I’ll be left behind.”
Though Shuvina hadn’t spent as much time with Lewis as Fiera had, she had come to understand who he was within this short period.
“Eir is the kind of person who won’t hesitate to leave behind those who are a burden. If you want to stay with him, you have to show your worth.”
Right now, Shuvina was with Lewis simply because she had her value to him, and he could use her for his goals.
Once that goal was accomplished, Lewis would leave her behind without a second thought.
Having spent a while acting with Lewis, Shuvina had somewhat come to this realization.
“Ugh. Looking back now, Eir really has a troublesome personality, doesn’t he?
…But I have to do this. I decided to follow him. For that, I’m ready to throw away my shame and pride!”
With her resolve set, Shuvina began to act to deceive and let her guard down.
“Seriously! Stop hiding and come out right now! Attacking while hiding is cowardly!”
As she yelled such things, Shuvina confidently moved through the forest, becoming emotional and shouting as she found traps.
And then…
“Oops!?”
With her attention diverted to her feet, Shuvina stumbled and nearly fell into a trap set by the female hunter.
Seizing the opportunity, the female hunter fired an arrow straight towards Shuvina.
“Found you!”
However, Shuvina was also waiting for this moment, quickly nocking an arrow and coating it with her fighting spirit before releasing it.
(From the sensation in my arm, this will be the last accurate shot I can make. Please hit!)
The arrow covered in fighting spirit flew with a faint golden glow, knocking the hunter’s arrow aside before reaching her target.
“No way?!”
Caught completely off guard by the unexpected counterattack, the female hunter hurriedly jumped down from the tree, but she landed amid an unexpected tangle of plant vines that ensnared her.
“Ugh! Why won’t this cut?!”
“That’s pointless. Those are the vines covered in magic power by Dōna. A mere knife won’t cut through them.”
At that moment, Shuvina, accompanied by Dōna, appeared just as the woman was trying to escape by cutting the vines with a knife.
“Why were you able to counterattack there?! I thought I had perfectly caught you off guard! Besides, you didn’t even notice the traps I set!”
“True. Your traps and invisible attacks were troublesome. But my Dōna is a plant spirit, you know? She can easily find traps like this if she wants to. I was just acting to deceive you.
The real hassle was not being able to see you. I didn’t know how it worked, but no matter what, I couldn’t catch sight of you, so I took advantage of a moment of your negligence when you tried to finish me off.”
“Tch. I can’t believe the hunter was the one being played with.”
Hurt by the fact that she had been deceived by Shuvina, the female hunter bit her lip, an expression of frustration etched on her face.
“Well then, let’s get on with it.”
“What? What do you mean… wait a minute!”
Shuvina picked up a silver bow that had fallen near the female hunter and started examining its abilities with appraisal magic.
“Silver Bow Artemina. Arrows fired become invisible, and the user becomes hard to detect by detection spells while equipped.
However, the duration depends on the user’s magic power; if your magic is low, it will dissolve quickly. Quite an impressive bow, indeed.”
“Exactly! So don’t touch it carelessly!”
The female hunter seemed quite attached to the bow, pleading with a panicked expression as she attempted to escape.
“Fufu.”
Seeing the female hunter’s distress, Shuvina smiled in a way that reminded one of someone and uttered words that would be nothing short of despair for the hunter.
“I’ll be taking this bow.”
“Y-You can’t! I’ll give you anything else, but not that bow! It was expensive! I bought it with all my savings!”
“I don’t want anything else. I just like this bow. And, you know? My leader used to say, ‘Show no mercy to enemies. Take everything from those who attack you as a fee.’”
“That’s not fair!”
“You challenged me to a game and lost, so it’s only natural I get this sort of reward, right? Dōna, please carry this person to Eir.”
Nod!
As Shuvina issued the command to Dōna, the female hunter vanished deeper into the forest, crying and pleading for her bow back.
“Well then. I’ve got a nice bow now, and I need to catch the other assassins too. …Come to think of it, what was that person’s name again?”
After the battle ended and having snatched a weapon away, Shuvina remembered she hadn’t heard the female hunter’s name all the way until the end.
“Well, whatever. Let’s move on.”
However, it was too late to ask now, and it wasn’t all that important anyway, so she set off deeper into the forest to look for her next target.
