The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide

Chapter 92: An Interesting Man

~ Side Lewis ~

As Aido readied his battle axe, Lewis stood there empty-handed, glaring at him.

“Hey, you a magician? Nah, but your stance has no openings. Aren’t you going to draw a weapon?”

“Don’t mind me. I just have something I want to try.”

“I see. Then I won’t hold back! ‘Body Enhancement’!”

Aido activated body enhancement, kicking off the ground and charging at Lewis with a speed that was unexpected for his massive frame.

(He’s faster than he looks.)

Aido, swinging his massive battle axe, raised it high as soon as he was in range and brought it down toward Lewis.

“Hungh!!”

Lewis, facing the incoming battle axe, shrouded a short dagger—produced from who knows where—in fighting spirit, deftly deflecting the axe.

Moreover, with the other dagger in his hand, he slashed at Aido’s exposed torso, leaving a slight cut on his steel-like body.

Stopping the downward swing of his battle axe before it hit the ground with sheer strength, Aido stepped back and looked at Lewis.

“What the… Your muscles are too hard. Are you wearing armor?”

“Ha ha ha! That’s a compliment for my muscles! … But what did you do? You had no dagger a second ago; where’d it come from?”

“Well, if I told you that, it wouldn’t be any fun, right?”

“You’re right!! If I know your tricks, it’ll be dull! Fighting must always be a dance with death!”

“I completely agree. A fight without the prospect of death is utterly boring. So, I’ll be aiming to kill you.”

While planning to capture all enemies alive, Lewis decided he would go all out to kill this man.

Otherwise, he would be the one who lost, and above all, it just seemed like more fun.

With Lewis radiating killing intent, Aido seemed to sense that this was the real deal and began to exude his own killing intent, the two of them locked in a tense stare.

Once they both sensed each other’s seriousness, they grinned at one another, pleased by the shared emotion.

“Alright, I’ll go first!”

“Bring it on!”

Lewis did about three light jumps on the spot and, in the next instant, disappeared without a sound, reappearing right in front of Aido.

And with a single breath, Lewis unleashed nearly twenty slashes, but Aido skillfully blocked each one with the handle of his axe, while those that slipped through were absorbed by his muscular armor, preventing any lethal damage.

“Tch. Seriously too hard. And surprisingly coordinated too.”

“Well! Despite appearances, I have a hobby in sewing!”

“Ahaha! No way! You’re an interesting guy!”

“You attack fast, but you lack weight! You should train more!”

“Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind for the future. But hey, one thing bothers me: You’re not an assassin, are you?”

“You figured it out! I’m a mercenary! I happened to come to this town, but unfortunately, I was broke. So when this high-paying request came up, I took it!”

“I see.”

So far, from conversing with Aido, Lewis felt that he wasn’t inherently a bad guy.

However, the fact he wouldn’t hesitate to accept a request to assassinate a child for money still made him quite the mercenary.

“Now then! Our chat ends here! Let’s have some fun!”

“Heh. Alright! Try to kill me!”

From there on, neither would hold back as they sought to take the other’s life, with Aido swinging his great axe and Lewis slicing with his two daggers.

However, Aido’s attacks were expertly dodged by Lewis’s skilled techniques and speed, while Lewis’s strikes were thwarted by Aido’s thick muscles.

Lewis utilized various weapons from his storage like swords, rapiers, short spears, and maces, but it felt like none had any real effect on Aido.

As a result, their fierce battle reached a stalemate, with neither able to land a decisive blow.

“This is going nowhere.”

“Agreed. Your muscles are downright abnormal.”

“Ha ha ha! They’re my pride! But it’s true, if this goes on, we won’t reach a conclusion! Thus! I’ll pull out my trump card!”

“Trump card?”

While Lewis wondered what Aido’s trump card was, Aido charged forward just like at the start, raising his axe high and bringing it down with force.

In response, Lewis aimed to deflect with his dagger, but the overwhelming shock from Aido’s blow shattered both the dagger and his arm’s resolve.

“Ugh?!”

In a split-second decision, Lewis let go of the dagger and rolled on the ground, quickly getting up to prepare his other dagger.

(What was that… That shock was entirely different from before.)

Aido’s attack, which he previously could deflect, was now impossibly heavy, utterly unmanageable single-handedly.

“I’m coming at you again!!”

As Lewis tried to think calmly about what just happened while creating some distance, Aido mercilessly closed in, swinging the axe horizontally at his torso.

Lewis squeezed a dagger between himself and the battle axe, but the same immense weight of Aido’s attack shattered the dagger effortlessly.

Thanks to a small barrier he had set up just in case, his body was at least spared from being cut in half, but the impact from Aido’s swing sent Lewis crashing into a tree, sending him flying.

“Cough! …Gah cough!”

After toppling trees and bouncing off the ground multiple times, Lewis finally came to a halt, spitting blood while trying to move his body.

“Damn. Did I damage my insides? Cough.”

After spewing out more blood, he wiped the blood dripping from his forehead and cast a light healing spell for first aid.

“This should hold for a while, but that guy’s attacks are the real issue. It could be magic, fighting spirit, or the magic axe, but… he didn’t seem to use fighting spirit, so it’s probably the magic axe. In that case, what about its ability… heavy impact? Nah, that’s not it. It feels like the attack itself has gotten heavier… That’s it.”

Tracking the sensation he felt when Aido attacked him, Lewis reached a conclusion about what the magic axe’s ability was.

“Alright! Now that I understand the magic axe’s ability, let’s head back. But first…”

Lewis stood up, retrieving a spear from his storage into his right hand, enveloping it with lightning before preparing to throw.

“Pierce through! Lightning Enchantment, Lightning Spear Gungnir!”

Lewis bestowed a lightning spell onto the spear, which crackled with blue lightning, and he hurled it at Aido with all his might.

“Eir!”

Sonia called out in worry for the flung Lewis, but he ignored her voice as he soared into the depths of the forest, colliding with several trees.

“Well, that went quite a distance. He might be dead. Now, time to take care of this.”

Feeling this, Aido turned to Sonia, who had been watching from a distance, and began to approach her slowly.

“D-Don’t come any closer!”

Sonia desperately unleashed magic at Aido, but he brushed off her efforts entirely, cutting through all her spells with his battle axe.

“Ha ha ha! Useless! Your magic couldn’t hurt me even if you tried! You’ll regret being so powerless and die!”

Finally arriving in front of Sonia, Aido lifted his axe high, preparing to bring it down upon her.

However, just as he was about to reach her, something came flying in from the side, hitting the downward swing of the battle axe and deflecting its path.

And…

“Hey, hey. Don’t forget about me and go after someone else. That would be lonely, right?”

“You’re still alive!”

“Eir! You’re okay!”

Both Aido and Sonia wore surprised expressions as they looked at Lewis, but before long, Aido’s face broke into a delighted smile.

“Ha ha! You lived! Awesome! That’s more like it! Now, let’s continue!”

“Yeah! No holding back from here on out!”

As Lewis declared this and unleashed his magic power, Sonia trembled from its overwhelming force, while Aido felt cold sweat down his spine.

“Wow, what a monster. But I like it!”

In response to Lewis’s magic power, Aido gathered his fighting spirit with all his might, his body enveloped in a golden aura.

Thus, the final battle between Lewis and Aido began.
