Chapter 67: Saints Row Arc - 1
Khan had no issues in learning that the deed holder was indeed, the poorly named John Blande. For the sake of a challenge, he had suppressed some of his more aggressive abilities and strength levels. He was by no means weak, but he wasn't wiping out armies by flexing his pinky.
He had his rifle, but he would need more. First thing was first, however. He tracked Blande, found him leaving some office. Blande entered the car only to find his driver was dead. Before he could leave, Khan entered the car. Khan could tell Blande was about to yell something, so he punched Blande in the throat. While Blande struggled to breathe, Khan went through Blande's briefcase.
Khan was surprised by the level of stupidity Blande had. Not only were the original deeds for every plot of land he owned in this town here, but he also had pre-signed papers for the legal transfer of these properties.
Blande tried to reach for the briefcase, but Khan instead handed him a homemade incendiary bomb. As Blande cluelessly looked at the device in his hands, Khan left the car, with the briefcase. He made it to the other side of the street before the car blew and was consumed in a inferno.
Thanks to the device, a PDA, he managed to set up the legal documents required. As far as this world is concerned, Khan Dovak has been a citizen for the last thirty years and is the owner of the holding company, Warlord Incorporated. He set the company as the legal holder of the deeds.
Since everything was dependent on the actions of the Player, Khan used his skills to observe and identify said individual. He found fairly quickly; they were going through orientation for Marshall. The Player had a name, Alice Black. Looking at her, she had a physical appearance similar to Panam Palmer, but tattoos and a hairstyle like Judy Álvarez. Definitely not any of the basic avatar choices.
Khan returned to the church to learn the history of the town. There were a few differences, like despite being in Arizona, the town was connected to the Gulf of Mexico because the Rio Grande, instead of ending in Colorado ended here. Was also two miles wide and twice as deep from beginning to end. Making this town a major transport hub for anything east of the Rocky Mountains and west of Kansas.
The local gangs used to be at each other's throats, but a truce authored by the Vice Kings current leader Benjamin King and Los Panteros former leader "Abuela" Reyes brought peace. Each gang had their own special racket in which they would hold sole rights.
However, Abuela's passing and the actions of her successor as well as those of the newest crew, the Idols, are threatening to end it. As for Marshall, its biggest competition is the Ultor Group. However, disappointingly they were fighting each other via the stock market not actual combat.
After scrounging up some cash, Khan hit a Friendly Fire. While browsing the display cases, he found a pair of 1873 .45 caliber Peacemaker revolvers. Collector quality, but the price suggested that these were only reproductions. He purchased them, as well as some bullets. He returned to the church, Khan was setup and ready, he just needed the perfect time to insert himself.
...
Alice Black, all honesty she sure what to do. It was the first day in which she was being paid for her effort. The "interview" was more like an unpaid training camp, and the moment she passed she was put into a uniform sent on a mission. Bullets and explosions on the level of an over-the-top action movie. Bills that needed to be paid, and her skill set largely revolves around murder.
The fact that most of the local criminal elements didn't like her, because of one drunken brawl or another. In any case she couldn't go to them for work. The Idols are the only group in town that she hasn't gotten into a fight with, but since according to her roommate Kevin, their members don't get paid, and they live like bums.
So, they weren't a real option. Orders were being squawked by her CO. Alice decided to use a moment of desperation to take control of the APC's turret. She was in her element mowing down the enemy, as well as igniting barrels of explosives that they left lying around. Then the driver died with his foot on the gas pedal.
One bumpy ride later, Alice was flung into a mine shaft. A few fights and a few bullets later she made it to the other side. She regrouped with the rest of the squad, then they proceed to lay siege to a saloon. Where the target was supposedly holed up.
Alice took the left flank and proceeded to shoot at every guy who shot at her. Her CO then told her to enter and try to flush out the target. After she entered, she found a man casually drinking whiskey surrounded by dead Marshall soldiers. Alice pointed her gun and said, "Mr. Nahualli, you are coming with me." The man casually got up, disregarded her and started walking towards the stairs. Alice threatened for him not to step on the stairs. The Nahualli just smiled and let his foot touch the stairs.
Then his head disappeared, Alice blinked not registering what happened. Apparently, the Nahualli's body also needed a moment because it took a whole second before the blood started to spray out and drop to the ground. Alice reported that Nahualli was down, her CO immediately chewed her out saying that they needed him alive.
Alice then mentioned that it wasn't her that killed him. Her CO mentioned they would be going over the camera footage from the helmet. As more Marshall forces poured in to secure the building, Alice wondered if this would affect her performance bonus.
...
Khan stood on the balcony holding his Arcane Rifle. There is no chance anyone figures out that he was the one who shot the Nahualli. He retreated back inside and begun to go over the information he learned while waiting.
First off, characters from every game were in town for one reason or another. The Vice Kings had its original crew, plus Julius Little and Pierce Washington. Angel was with the Luchadores and thus still working with Killbane.
Shaundi was part of a roller derby team. However, what caught Khan's attention was the fact that one of Shaundi's teammates was Piper Andrews aka Daisy, from Agents of Mayhem. The fact that Agents of Mayhem was also in the mix helped make sense of the fact that Johnny Gat was a part of a joint police task force. ATF, FBI, MI6, Interpol, and the local police.
The task force had Johnny Gat, Oleg Kirrlov, Fatima Daoud aka Agent Dynamo, Troy Bradshaw, Kinzie Kensington, and Asha Odekar as the recognizable members, the others had a nameless background character feel to them. Lin was simply a mechanic in an independent garage, working alongside Katherine Fox, aka Gremlin. Dex was a member of Ultor's security. Then there was the Marshall board of executives.
Atticus Marshall was exactly like he was portrayed in the game. Not even a generic villain, but simply a delusional, spoiled brat of an old man who thought that because he had money and lawyers then reality had to play by his rules. An honest to goodness, waste of flesh.
Of the board was a slightly different matter. Instead of Myra Starr, Persephone Brimstone was sitting in that chair. Stephanie Albright, aka Friday was there as Persephone's personal assistant. The others were simply the same job as stated in their backgrounds for the most part. Some of them were locals, while others had been given convoluted reasons for coming to town.
Khan sat down to enjoy a cheeseburger from Freckle Bitches, he didn't need to eat but he enjoyed the lack of self-censorship. All the gangs were preparing for war, they all expected the truce to end they were just waiting for someone to make the first move. Anybody in the know, expected the first shot to come from either Sergio Velez, because he had a short temper and there were many people saying, he was undeserving of his promotion, or the Collective. Anyone who actually pays attention to their behavior can tell that the Idols sole purpose is to upset the status quo.
Khan can imagine how it will unfold. Once the Idols steal from Los Panteros and Panteros responds with the party attack, one of the others will try to steal territory and each gang will try to take advantage of the actions of the others. War will be inevitable with each group fighting in their own way.
The real question is how they will respond to the task force. Currently, only the Vice Kings, Westside Rollers, and the Deckers were aware of the group's existence. If the past is prologue, then they will either eliminate or discredit the group. As long as he wasn't directly responsible, then it shouldn't be that hard for Khan to recruit those agents, especially if they were hit with a burn notice.
But that is for later, he still got to wait. He will continue to watch the Player's progress. He will also need to make sure he's set up for the party. After all, when he takes his shots, he won't want anyone realizing his role until it's too late.
Khan stopped eating for a moment to think. If he was a cheesy villain, then he would do some evil laugh. He continued eating, if he did a laugh like that he would wait until after he won. For now, choices needed to be made. Who would be real members of the gang and who would be the puppets entertaining him.
