Chapter 32: Chapter 32

Ran reluctantly smiled, responding occasionally with a "yes" to show she was listening.

Sonoko, on the other hand, rested her chin on her hand and looked at Shinichi with expressionless eyes, waiting for him to stop talking.

Lin Yi silently shook his head.

The girls had no interest in listening to these case-solving stories.

Of course, some girls might enjoy mysteries and crime-solving, but they are just a very small minority.

Unfortunately for Ran and Sonoko, they are not part of that minority.

Instead of listening to Shinichi talk about how he found clues at the crime scene and how he noticed something suspicious, they would rather discuss celebrity gossip, street food, and curiosities.

Moreover, Ran and Sonoko had no way to engage in the topic of solving the case; they were mere listeners with no interaction whatsoever.

A conversation without exchange is doomed to fail.

So, needless to say, Kudo Shinichi was already lost.

There's no saving him now.

Lin Yi took out her phone and began texting Sonoko: [Did you understand anything?]

Sonoko, who was bored, suddenly noticed she had a new message. Looking at her phone, she saw that it was from Lin Yi.

Sonoko looked up at Lin Yi, then at Ran and Shinichi, and replied: [I didn't understand anything…]

Lin Yi silenced the vibration and sound on her phone, and upon receiving Sonoko's message, replied: [Is Kudo always like this?]

[Ah... yes, this deduction idiot is always like this, he immerses himself in his own world...]

[So... don't you think Ran is quite unfortunate? I see her smiling with great difficulty.]

[There's no way... Ran is so kind. If it were me, I would definitely interrupt him without hesitation.]

[...]

As they texted back and forth and observed Ran and Shinichi, they realized that the two hadn't noticed what they were doing, so they continued talking.

In front of Ran and Shinichi, secretly texting felt like passing notes in class under the teacher's watchful eye.

As they kept sending messages, they also shared their feelings, slowly bringing their hearts closer together.

Sonoko was immersed in this atmosphere, which, though tense and exciting, was also absorbing and fascinating.

Shinichi was still talking about how he solved the case, which was starting to irritate Ran, and her attention began to drift.

Suddenly, Ran noticed that Sonoko and Lin Yi were playing with their phones, typing on the screen.

Although she couldn't see the screens, her feminine intuition told her that Sonoko and Lin Yi must be chatting.

What could they be talking about?

Ran wondered.

Seeing Sonoko smile and seem happy, Ran, driven by curiosity, thought: Are they talking about interesting things? I'd like to know…

"Lan... Lan..."

Hearing Shinichi call her, Ran came back to reality and looked at him somewhat embarrassed: "What's wrong, Shinichi?"

Are you even listening to me?

"Yes…"

"Really?" Shinichi, doubting, tested her: "Then, which pen did I mention had gone missing?"

"That…" Ran stammered, unable to respond.

"I see…" Shinichi appeared a little annoyed: "You need to pay more attention to what others are saying."

"..."

Ran felt quite frustrated; I'm not interested in anything you're saying. How could I pay attention?

Just when Ran was about to say something, Sonoko stood up, grabbed her bag, and said: "Lan, I'm going out to buy something and then I'll head home… You two enjoy your food."

"Eh? Are you leaving already? It's not even eight yet." Ran was somewhat surprised.

"I have some things to take care of today," Sonoko said with a smile.

"I'll go with you... I won't bother you two anymore..." Lin Yi also stood up.

"In the meantime, you two have a good time together." Sonoko patted Ran on the shoulder, giving her a signal, and then left with Lin Yi to the reception to pay the bill and they went out together.

"Take care!"

Shinichi waved goodbye with his hand.

Lin Yi's departure allowed Shinichi to relax considerably: thankfully, he was behind Sonoko… I feel at ease!

"Oh... where was I? Yes, about the missing pen."

After the two left, Shinichi resumed the topic: "So I had an idea and started writing... and then…"

"Enough already, stop talking."

With Sonoko and Lin Yi gone, Ran didn't have to keep enduring it. She interrupted him rudely.

"That's enough about the murder case! Stop it!"

Shinichi was bewildered, not understanding why Ran was angry: "What... what's wrong? Did I say something bad?"

"You didn't say anything bad…"

Ran sighed: "It's just that talking about murder cases during a meal isn't appropriate, is it?"

"Isn't it appropriate?" Shinichi touched his nose, somewhat confused: "Like this?"

"You... when are you going to mature a little?"

Ran felt a deep sense of helplessness: "Didn't you notice that Sonoko and Lin Yi were bored, playing with their phones?"

"Ah, I see…"

Shinichi replied indifferently and then picked up his chopsticks to continue eating.
