Chapter 33: Chapter 33

He only cares about Ran's mood; what others think isn't even within his consideration.

"You... forget it."

Ran didn't know how to talk to Shinichi properly, so she finally decided to abandon the idea; she didn't want to say anything else, she was tired.

"Don't be mad."

Shinichi smiled at Ran: "Aren't you going to eat?"

"I'm not going to eat anymore... I'm already full."

Ran replied with little enthusiasm.

What people fear the most is comparison.

If there were no comparisons, Ran wouldn't have so many complaints about Shinichi, since he has always been like this since childhood, and she is already used to it.

However, when comparisons exist, a distinction between better and worse inevitably arises.

Thus, Ran unconsciously compared Shinichi to Lin Yi and reached the conclusion: disappointment.

She thought, "It would be great if Shinichi could be as mature as Lin Yi..."

After the meal, Shinichi and Ran left the restaurant and walked down the street.

"Where are we going now?" Ran asked.

Shinichi hadn't planned to have alone time with Ran, so he didn't have a plan in mind. He scratched his head and said, "How about we just take a walk?"

"Yeah," Ran nodded.

The two walked down a busy street, and Shinichi felt very relaxed.

Earlier, he thought the annoying transfer student was interested in Ran, which gave him a strong sense of crisis, even making him consider confessing his feelings directly.

But realizing the transfer student's interest was in Sonoko, Shinichi's sense of crisis disappeared, and the idea of confessing faded away.

Shinichi began to talk to Ran about what had been happening recently, like the soccer game with the neighboring class.

It was good that Shinichi didn't mention it, but when he did, Ran remembered that she had made a bento but didn't deliver it on time.

After digging up this old story, Ran began to get angry.

Since she didn't intend to eat anymore, Shinichi noticed that Ran's expression wasn't quite right.

"What's wrong, Ran? Are you feeling unwell?" Shinichi asked with concern.

"No." Ran huffed, and by her tone and attitude, it seemed she was saying, 'I'm very angry.'

Shinichi was confused, wondering what he had done wrong.

Did it seem like he said something he shouldn't have this time?

"But you... look... angry," Shinichi said cautiously.

"Yeah, that's right." Ran stopped and nodded: "I'm angry!"

"Then... why are you angry?" Shinichi asked, a bit confused.

"What do you think?"

Hearing this question made Ran even angrier.

She felt stupid for being angry, and that Shinichi didn't even know the reason. She was mad for no reason!

The more she thought about it, the angrier she felt.

"..."

Shinichi felt a headache coming on. He thought of something and then said carefully, "Was it because I made you wait so long this afternoon... and that made you mad?"

"Forget it, I'm tired. I'm going home!"

Ran turned her head and didn't want to keep talking to Shinichi. She felt like he didn't understand anything she was thinking, and they couldn't communicate!

"Hey... hey... Ran, I'm sorry."

Shinichi ran after her, apologizing.

What did he do wrong?

"It's just that... there... I shouldn't have done that."

"What exactly?"

"Hmm... um... just... just..."

"You don't even know what you did wrong; your apology lacks sincerity!"

Shinichi tried to follow her, but Ran stopped him.

"Don't follow me! I want to go home alone!"

After Ran stopped Shinichi, she raised her hand to hail a taxi and got in.

Shinichi stood there watching the taxi drive away, looking bewildered. He scratched his head in despair: "Where did I go wrong?"

After seriously thinking about it, Shinichi slapped his palm and exclaimed, "If it's not about this afternoon... then it must be about the conversation about the murder case at the table!"

"You're back..."

Ran, passing by the office on the second floor, said glumly.

"You're back... how was the art gallery this afternoon?"

Kogoro Mouri greeted Ran before returning to watch the TV show of Okino Yōko.

"I'm back..."

Ran passed by the office on the second floor, saying weakly.

"You're back... How was the exhibition at the art museum this afternoon?"

Kogoro Mouri greeted Ran before going back to watch Okino Yoko's program on TV.

"Not very good..."

Ran flopped onto the sofa, frustrated: "At the art gallery, we found a murder case. Even though a murder happened, can't the police just investigate it? Why does Shinichi have to meddle?"

"Bah."

Kogoro Mouri thought it was something important, and without realizing the gravity of the matter, he said, "What happened in the end? Was the murder case solved?"

"It was solved, but that's not the point, okay?"
