Chapter 38 - Killing Pigs 2
Seeing that the mutated pig was trying to escape, Mai Dongzi couldn’t let the prize catch slip away. She immediately chased after it.
With its front hooves injured, the pig’s running speed was already affected. Moreover, Mai Dongzi was naturally faster than the mutated pig, so she quickly caught up with it.
Mai Dongzi leaped onto the pig’s back, gripping her dagger tightly and stabbing forcefully into the pig’s head.
Though the pig’s skin was tough, Mai Dongzi managed to drive most of the dagger into its head. Blood gushed out from the wound, splattering onto her face.
Those watching from the Xi family were greatly shocked.
The girl, who had been seen as silent and distant from her clan, had grown into someone with a determined and decisive gaze—traits not commonly found in ordinary people.
And this time, she showcased her skills, making it clear that she was undoubtedly a Level 5 warrior.
The head of the Xi family was even more frustrated. He was better informed than others and knew that Lucy was likely a psychic with at least Level 4 abilities. He regretted missing the opportunity to nurture such a prodigious talent.
With such an exceptional genius, if the family had invested fully in her development, she would have brought immense honor to the Xi family once she matured.
However, due to his personal interests and his inaction after learning about his wife’s scheme to switch the babies, he missed the chance to cultivate a family genius.
Now, as Lucy becomes increasingly outstanding, his position becomes more awkward. Aside from blaming his wife, he felt powerless to act.
He had initially considered that since he was already on the opposing side, and could not reconcile, perhaps he should eliminate this threat before she fully matured.
But just as he was contemplating this and had not yet decided, Prince Arthur personally called him, and all such thoughts vanished.
Prince Arthur simply informed him that Miss Lucy Xi had been enrolled in the Blue-Black Empire’s Special Talent Training Center, and instructed him to have her report there as soon as she returned from the survival game.
The Special Talent Training Center was directly overseen by His Majesty the King. If it were only Prince Arthur, the Xi family head might have had some ideas. But with the King involved, he was well aware of the consequences and did not want to take any risks.
…..
Although Mai Dongzi’s dagger was embedded in the mutated pig’s head, the strike was not enough to bring it down but was sufficient to seriously injure it.
Realizing its impending doom, the mutated pig, in a last-ditch effort, charged at a nearby large tree with the intent of dying together with its enemy. With a tremendous crash, the tree, with a diameter of nearly one meter, was snapped in half.
When Mai Dongzi realized the pig’s intention, she quickly rolled off its back. However, due to the force of the impact, she rolled several times after hitting the ground and ended up crashing into another tree with her waist.
Fortunately, she managed to reduce some of the impact while rolling on the ground, so by the time she hit the tree, the force was not too severe, though it still caused her significant pain, making her grit her teeth to avoid crying out.
Mai Dongzi lay under the tree for two minutes to regain her strength before managing to get up. Once she stood, she noticed that her ankle was twisted. To avoid worsening the injury, she walked with a noticeable limp.
The final crash of the mutated pig against the tree was extremely violent, causing its head to cave in. By the time Mai Dongzi approached, it had already died, and she quickly stored the mutated pig in her spatial storage.
The commotion from the chase between Mai Dongzi and the mutated pig had been quite loud. Additionally, the pig’s blood had left long trails on the ground as it bled while running, filling the surrounding forest with a strong stench of blood.
After storing the pig, Mai Dongzi used her mental power to “scan” the area and found that a group of mutated jackals, seemingly alerted by the commotion, were heading toward her location from about five or six kilometers away.
Although the group of mutated jackals had only one level-three leader, the rest of the dozen or so mutated jackals were level-two and level-one.
Given the number of mutated beasts, and especially since these mutated jackals are not very palatable, Mai Dongzi, with her twisted ankle, preferred to avoid a direct confrontation. Therefore, she decided to flee.
After all, her current task was not to hunt mutated beasts but to find a suitable place to set up camp first, and then explore the area gradually.
Before running away, since it would take the mutated jackals about ten minutes to reach her location, Mai Dongzi cut the large tree that the mutated pig had knocked down into several segments and stored them in her spatial backpack before fleeing.
This habit came from her previous life after the apocalypse, where the scarcity of resources led her and her teammates to get accustomed to stockpiling supplies for emergencies.
Over two thousand years ago, while the humans of Water Blue Star did not have spatial devices, there were space-type ability users among them, and their special forces included one such individual.
The daggers provided by the program were not easy to use for killing a level-three mutated pig, but cutting through the thick mutated wood was not difficult. In less than five minutes, she finished the task.
Although Mai Dongzi had slightly twisted her ankle, it was not severe. Without heavy loads, running was not a problem.
Even though she was cautious about aggravating her injury and her running speed was not very fast, she managed to leave the area before the mutated jackals arrived.
Although the process of killing the pig was challenging, Mai Dongzi was very pleased to have obtained a mutated pig. With this pig, her food supply for the next month would be much richer.
After eliminating the possibility of being chased by mutated jackals, Mai Dongzi was in a good mood as she searched for a water source.
The water in her spatial backpack and spatial buckle would last her for at most half a month, so finding a water source was crucial.
Drawing on her previous life experience, Mai Dongzi searched for water in the forest. With the aid of her psychic power, she avoided the mutated beasts from a distance and, after half an hour, discovered a small stream.
Over two thousand years have passed, and many changes have occurred on Water Blue Star. Mai Dongzi was extremely cautious. After discovering the small stream, she did not approach it directly but instead moved toward the source.
In unfamiliar environments, where she didn’t know what dangers might be present, the water’s edge could be even more dangerous than the land.
Therefore, when collecting water, she aimed to choose shallow areas. Shallow water is easier to see through than deep water, and large mutated aquatic creatures cannot hide in shallow water.
Mai Dongzi followed the stream upstream for a distance. After locating the source, she shifted her focus to finding a suitable place for shelter, such as a cave.
However, after walking for two hours, she did not find any suitable caves. The caves inhabited by mutated beasts were so repulsive from what she saw with her psychic power that she felt nauseated, let alone considering occupying them.
After inspecting two caves occupied by mutated beasts, Mai Dongzi abandoned the search for caves and turned her attention to the large trees in the forest.
She decided to revert to her old method and build a treehouse herself.
