TWD: A New Beginning From the End of the World

Chapter 52: Underestimating no one

With knowledge of some trivial bits of the original plot, Airon and many people knew that the military underestimated the walkers in the beginning.

In fact, the military was rarely seen after the chaos, and that was because they had all been moving from time bases to time bases. Even when Operation Cobalt was ordered, many military personnel lost the chain of command when superiors stopped issuing orders.

At first, the newer temporary bases were abandoned by the military and much military equipment was left behind. Just considering what was left outside the CDC where there was a temporary base, Airon was able to get hold of several Humvees and three tanks along with a lot of useful weaponry.

Many people criticized and were sure that the military was very weak, no one could understand how the whole system was broken by these simple walkers. But there was a very detailed explanation, most of the military did not have key information on how to deal with the infected.

When it all broke out, the military created many shelters and useful containments were made. But all it took was for one infected to slip out of their eyes for the entire base to be infected by walkers. Everyone thought they were crazy people or infected with a virus that could be reversible, but everything got so out of control that even with military weapons the soldiers could do nothing but run away.

While he was thinking about all this, several people got out of the large trucks and stood at the edge of the camp, and the whole scene in front of him made him more sure of his judgment.

In this shelter was a large amount of heavy weapons that were thrown on the ground, surrounded by some tents that had not been removed in time.

After approaching, Airon could barely see blood at the entrance of the camp, but when he entered he discovered that it was littered with corpses on the ground, the flesh and blood giving off a putrid smell.

This may show that even at that time the troops still doubted what was happening, mistaking the walkers for violent people, when these soldiers realized that something was wrong and started shooting, the walkers were already very close to them.

Then, when he confirmed the situation at this location, Arion took his M4 and together with the others first entered the camp to clear the walkers that were nearby.

When all the walkers were eliminated, they all started to move to the tent located in an open space behind the camp. As Airon guessed, there was a lot of military equipment in this place.

Airon looked into the boxes and found that there were quite a few, ranging from ammunition to all-weather weapons. Ignoring this, he looked around to see if there was anything he should watch out for or be more aware of.

"Oh, are you seeing what I'm seeing?" Jon Seda who was one of the first ex-servicemen to join Airon ran to the side of the ammunition boxes and lifted the lid. His eyes and body couldn't help but marvel at the perfectly stacked ammunition.

"Jon, stop wasting time, we need to hurry and get the truck as close as possible towards this place." Airon stepped out of the tent and raised his hand in the direction of the truck.

George Burcea sitting in the driver's seat slowly approached, and without waiting for Airon to say what to do, everyone started to move and began to carry the ammunition boxes to the truck.

Since yesterday he knew everything the S.C.T. had in their warehouses, and it could only be described as an overkill of weaponry and resources yet it wasn't enough in his eyes. It was known that later on they could not be sure when they would get more resources, so it was necessary to get as much as they could while there was still time.

"Place the boxes on both sides and leave a place for the weapons in the middle. We need to make sure they are securely tied down with ropes, we can't afford to lose all of this." Airon ordered the crowd, as he also hurried to move the found supplies.

George Burcea, who drove the truck to the nearest position, was the most relaxed. He stood on the roof of the truck and shielded the surroundings to prevent walkers from appearing in any direction.

After moving for at least half an hour, several people were tired and sweating deeply, Airon finally took out the last box of weapons and several people helped him move the heaviest weapons to the truck.

"Brothers! Finally, the work was not in vain!"

Airon looked at the weapons in front of him with satisfaction, including heavy machine guns like M249 and M250, as well as many M4A1 assault rifles, pistols, daggers, he even found three M24 sniper rifles and many AR-15 rifles!

"Haha, this felt really good!"

Several members of the group celebrated and their faces could not hide their joy. Airon was also pleased, but he had to stop them and remembered, "All right, let's hurry up and move to the next place, now!"

"Yes, Captain!"

They all drove to the next place again, and after Airon and the others finished moving the weapons, the last CDC convoy finally arrived at the prison.

...

West Georgia Prison.

Daryl spotted the modified RV from a distance and opened the main prison gate. The large convoy was followed by several large trucks and the last two military tanks that were in the CDC.

Sam Valdez and the rest of the more experienced guards saw the prison in the distance and nodded with satisfaction. This place is definitely a hundred times better defensively than the open CDC facility.

Carol and Jacquie went over to help the last people who had just arrived, after that they needed to assign rooms to people and accommodate the elderly in special places, but thanks to the large number of people, things were going in order.

According to the classification that was established, the outermost unit is for single men, then there is a unit for families, another unit is special for couples, another unit is for single women and the innermost unit is for the elderly and their caregivers.

Walking through the units one by one, Jacqui let a group of people sign up for a unit and start moving in where it was convenient for them.

This arrangement was overseen by all and was a decision finally made by Airon after consideration. In this way, in the future, all people can distinguish each person's basic situation according to the unit in which they live.

On the other hand, it is also convenient for new survivors to live at the bottom of the prison. Young men and couples live closer to the exit, which is very convenient for a quick response in case of emergencies where fighters are needed.

These people are almost all young and strong people, and then there are the women and the elderly. In order to take care of the privacy of the ladies and the elderly we tried to create a quiet environment.

As for living in the innermost part, there is no need to worry about going out. There are several exits from the prison. Even if the fence behind the prison is repaired after a while, the elderly can quickly go to the backyard through the corridor to conduct corresponding activities.

The investigators did not follow the crowd to the housing area, but followed Carol to a separate house next to them.

Carol opened the door and they all entered the room.

"Airon sorted this place out to become a lab later on. It still has a lot of remodeling to do, but it will be fully equipped in the future." Carol briefly introduced the place to the lead scientists, Edwin and Candace according to Airon's explanations.

The remaining researchers looked at the place carefully.

"Well, it's not bad here, it's separate from the main site, but a lot of remodeling needs to be done according to our requirements." Candace stood in the middle of the room and looked around.

In general, everyone was quite pleased.

Carol doesn't understand these things, but she knows that the team led by these two people have been trying to develop some sort of vaccine and solved the problem that everyone was worried about, so she is very kind to them.

Moreover, these six researchers are the only ones capable at least of their group in finding a kind of vaccine that will save the world from this hell.

"How are you feeling Carol? I heard about your husband, it was a tragedy what happened to his group." Candace turned her head to Carol and asked with concern, from what she had heard Carol's husband was infected by a walker on an expedition outside the CDC.

Not much explanation was given, only that he died and was brought back so Carol and her daughter could say goodbye to their loved one. The group he was in was led by Sam Valdez and resulted in several unexplained casualties.

"I'm fine, me and my daughter need to learn to suffer in order to get by." Carol smiled slightly and said, "Airon also said he would be busy these days so their respective rooms should be arranged for them first."

The Jenners smiled back politely and nodded, and they walked toward the prison.

...

"Crack!"

At the prison gate, Daryl looked at the numerous tanks and large trucks parked not far from the prison gate with a dazed expression. If he didn't know the drivers, he would have called the people and prepared to defend the prison from an enemy attack.

At that moment, a head protruded from the cab of a truck in front of the gate, it was Shane!

He looked at Daryl with a playful grin on his face and asked, "Are you surprised, haha!"

Daryl scoffed, completely ignored Sahne and simply opened the prison door.

Seeing Daryl's reaction, Sean showed an indifferent expression on his face and drove the truck to the back of the prison, followed by the cars behind him.

Then Daryl discovered that a dozen strangers got out of the back of a dump truck. He immediately raised the crossbow in his hand and asked them loudly, "Who are you?"

Seeing the commotion, some guards walking nearby also pointed their guns at those strangers.

"Wait, wait, I saved them!" Shane jumped out of the truck and saw Darryl's movements right away, and immediately stopped Darryl loudly.

Shane approached Daryl and quietly explained, "All of these people were at a college on the way here. A dozen of them had been holed up in their college cafeteria earlier."

"For so long, the food in the cafeteria had been consumed. Because of this, someone suggested going outside to try their luck. Unexpectedly, when they were fleeing, they heard the sound of our convoy and chased us. However, out of 25 people, there were only 16 left in their group."

If there was one thing Daryl had learned from life, it was to never trust strangers.
