Chapter 51: The first movements
In a street crowded with walkers, Airon didn't decide to carry his M4 or draw his pistols from his waistband, but instead drew two machetes that were next to him and got out of the driver's cab. This time his target was not clearing the walkers and wasting ammunition doing so, but the large vehicle that was at the entrance of an alley not far away, a tank!
These big beasts left behind by the military is something Airon would definitely take back to the base, slowly retrieving the things left behind by the military.
Turning around the back of the truck, Airon ran towards the direction of the tank, behind him Rick followed close behind and the two of them advanced quickly.
Rapidly approaching the street that led into the alley, Airon and Rick ran without stopping. Although the walkers were walking down the road they were not as dense as before, they could still run into one or two every few yards.
You couldn't look at that many when they were in the truck, but once they reached the street and came face to face with these walkers, the machetes in Airon's hands didn't hold back and he chopped heads off without stopping.
Running behind him, Rick kept mopping up walkers on Airon's left and right sides, with the cooperation of the two, it was as if the walkers were nothing, and they quickly approached the tank.
As the new leader of a group, Rick may not be the most powerful in combat, but his brain is the brightest and his hand will not tremble to clear dozens of walkers single-handedly. Now he no longer cared about Airon's urgency to get more tanks and weaponry, he knew that the more power the group had the safer they would be.
Finally, the two of them reached the side of the tank. Airon handed Rick a machete. With one hand free, he held tight to a bar and jumped hard, his right foot stepped on the tank and forcefully climbed up.
On the other hand, after Arion climbed onto the tank, Rick behind him also did the same, he lifted his right foot and wanted to imitate Arion's actions, stepping on an edge of the tank and then propelling his body with a jump.
"Damn!"
The action was correct, but the results were not as desired. Attempting to mimic the jump, Rick discovered that he had overestimated his strength and skill, although his right leg had exerted its full force, the forward thrust meant that it was not enough to climb the tank.
Feeling the bitterness, Rick's dangling body leaned back a little and stopped. Just as he was about to fall, Rick quickly turned his head and looked back. There were two walkers not far from his position. There was still a distance of ten meters, but if he fell to the ground now Rick knew he would be eaten by those walkers.
Looking at the walkers, Rick broke into a cold sweat. "These damn monsters..."
Suddenly Rick felt his arm that was clinging to a tank tube being held by someone, and soon that someone pulled hard upwards.
Rick immediately realized who had saved him and quickly grabbed onto a bump beside him to steady his figure.
"Be more careful, Rick!" Airon's familiar voice rang in his ears, and this slightly cold voice was extremely natural to Rick's ears at the moment.
"Hu... Thanks, I owe you one." Knowing this was not the time to speak, Rick just thanked Airon and then followed him to the top entrance of the tank.
"Crack!" When the entrance above the tank opened, Airon jumped out, followed by Rick.
It wasn't only until Airon closed the tank hatch that he reached out and patted Rick on the shoulder, then said in joking mode, "Well, let's see if this tank lights up."
The corners of Rick's mouth turned up slightly when he heard this, and a deep feeling of gratitude suddenly welled up in his heart. From what he had heard, Airon learned the basics of using and moving a tank, so now there was no struggle to worry about.
Airon, who made this joke, had already arrived at the cockpit and started the tank according to what he had learned from the soldiers manning it.
Driving a war tank in peacetime produces a once-in-a-lifetime sensation. It is pure adrenaline. Something that is fun and makes the body and soul vibrate.
Looking at all those buttons and advanced computers, Airon got a little lost but followed the instructions he had been taught long ago. Hopefully, this tank could be driven by the truck and if no luck, they would just be wasting their time.
As Airon became familiar with the interior, he began to push buttons and activate the motor in a quick process. Just when Rick thought Airon couldn't start the tank's engine, the noise from the tank roared and Airon grabbed the radio in his vest and yelled out loud:
"Zz... George Burcea, prepare to drive."
"Roger that, Captain!"
Throwing the radio in his hand, Airon started driving the tank!
The people in the big cargo trucks only saw Airon along with another person who ran out into the street full of walkers, they all wanted to go help him and cover him, but they found that the two tacitly cooperated, you could see the machetes in Airon's hands move as if he was familiar with the swords from in front of Rick, and Rick who followed behind him, took care of the rest of the walkers with his gun.
These two guys were not afraid of walkers, at least Arion showed an extremely calm and serene appearance, eliminating numerous walkers with relative ease. On the other hand, Rick fired dozens of bullets very accurately into the heads of those walkers.
As the two ran towards the vicinity of the tank, the people in the truck finally breathed a sigh of relief, but it seems that Rick made a mistake that almost cost him his life and everyone's hearts jumped like a drum once again, but after Airon helped him in time, they both entered the inside of the tank and everyone was relieved to see this result.
Everyone thought it was all over! But they never expected what surprised them was yet to come!
Seeing the tank that seemed to be non-functioning in an alleyway suddenly ignited and rushed forward at top speed, all the walkers in its path were crushed by the tank and turned to mush.
The tank continued straight for almost 50 meters more and suddenly the walkers who were around the big trucks started walking in the opposite direction, all of them were attracted by the sound of the tank's monitor.
The tank that was driven towards the direction of the big cargo truck at high speed. Everyone witnessed the distance being reduced, but when everyone was anxious to see if the tank was handled in the right way, it stopped and began to crush the walkers on the sides.
All the walkers walking in front of the tank were like sandbags, none without exception was saved from being crushed by the enormous power of the tank!
Then, under everyone's shocked eyes, Airon maneuvered the tank forward leaving a huge mess on the ground, the caterpillars with blood and pieces of flesh slowly made its way towards the cargo truck.
Airon took the fast and under the direction of the people on the outside climbed the tank. "Zz... Come on, Burcea!"
"All right... all right, Captain!"
"Boom!"
The huge cargo truck slowly fired up and they pulled out of the street.
It could be said that receiving a new tank made everyone quite satisfied. After all, in recent days, what can make people feel safer than powerful weapons?
Then, much later Airon and the others carefully searched for the spots marked on the map, but the next two spots were all empty, which made Airon, who was a little excited about getting two tanks, calm down a little.
"Airon, don't be discouraged, we still have three spots left and we also have two tanks augured!" Sensing Airon's disappointment, Rick tried to comfort him, this harvest being such a small group of people is already huge.
"Don't worry, I'm not that bad! I think there should be a big chance that there are troops stationed in these two places!"
Airon was a little sore, after all, they all intend to gain more strength from now on! Although they have with this tank seven, the fuel to move them is a big problem, it is estimated that more than half of them will be sheltered before they get the fuel needed to make use of them freely.
The next locations on the map are not far away. Airon did not list the entire city as search targets, but only selected a few locations closer to the CDC facility.
The crowd soon approached the next location again, and George Burcea, who was in the driver's seat, suddenly pointed to an intersection up ahead and shouted loudly, "Captain! Look ahead! There seems to be a fortification there!"
Following the direction George Burcea pointed, everyone in the cabin soon saw a mountain surrounded by sandbags. The area in front of the mountain was not large, but it occupied the center of a three-way intersection.
This is exactly the deployment point calculated by Airon. This is a road junction in this area. In the early stage, the military probably occupied some major transportation hubs because they underestimated the threat of walkers.
The army in the original story underestimated the walkers and did not understand them, it is said that many initially intended to evacuate the survivors, but seeing all the danger, they were eliminated without questioning whether they were infected or not and when the operation took place Cobalt, it was all too late to control.
