TWD: A New Beginning From the End of the World

Chapter 55: Many call me captain

George and Billy held the handle of the vehicle door, both signaled to open the door at the same time, counting to three.

When they were ready, the two pushed the door open.

"Now!" Opening the door by concept, Rick, Airon and the others pointed their weapons ready to fire if the situation called for it.

"Oh!" The interior was filled with all sorts of stuff, trash bags and planted produce flowed like a waterfall as the door opened.

"Hey!"

"Fuck!"

The people closest to the Humvee door held their noses and backed away, but the stench coming toward them made them cough repeatedly. Billy, who was standing next to them, couldn't help but spit in disgust when he smelled this unbearable odor.

However, Airon ignored the stench coming from inside the Humvee, raised his rifle and took a closer look at the people inside, and discovered that there were four people lying inside the Humvee, motionless, not knowing if they were alive or dead.

"This is curious..." Accompanied by a light sound, Airon's eyes narrowed as his thoughts focused on what was happening.

Several people approached cautiously, while Aurelio moved his M4 hanging from his shoulder, intending to check the status of these people.

Suddenly, one person in the car seemed to move, accompanied by a can breaking, one person seemed to have regained consciousness and was barely able to open his eyes.

Seeing the movement of the other party, everyone raised their weapons, so far, they still have not distinguished whether these four people are walkers or humans.

"Save!...Save us!"

Accompanied by a slight creaking sound, a weak and hoarse voice sounded, if everyone hadn't raised their weapons and looked at them silently, they probably wouldn't have heard him speak.

"It's a living person!"

When Airon noticed the whisper for help, he was somewhat relieved and quickly approached those four people and began to check their condition.

After only a few minutes, Airon wordlessly stood up and looked at the few people around him.

Several people threw inquisitive glances one after another.

"Is he still alive? Airon."

Seeing this situation, everyone was stunned for a second and suddenly wondered the same thing, though they deduced by seeing Airon's serious expression.

"Well..."

Seeing everyone's expression, Airon suddenly wanted to make a joke and explained to everyone with an extremely delicate expression, "From their skin, the current intensity of their organ activity of these four people have greatly decreased, their heartbeat seems to have slowed down."

The group of people were dumbfounded by what Airon was explaining, no one could understand all those words clearly but no one dared to point it out, but the brave Aurelius asked, "So, in a nutshell, can they be saved?"

"Of course, they're just hungry and a bit dehydrated!" Airon's tone was relaxed at this point, without the oppressive feeling he was expressing a moment ago.

"Haha..." Rick forced a smile at hearing this, really Airon is bad at making jokes.

After getting those people out of the Humvee car, they were supported and all received a bottle of saline, the four recovered a bit, they sat down and looked around in fear, they were two white men and two black skinned men, all wore the same clothes.

It can be said that because of the dirt and being messy for a long time, the clothes of the four may not be recognizable to the naked eye, with such only the black and yellow stains on their body can not identify what it is, but still can be seen even vaguely that the four are wearing very high warm clothes, a military uniform.

The group waited for the four to relax before Airon asked, "Are you guys from the military?"

"Yes, can I have some more food, we are very hungry!" The black-skinned soldier to the side woke up and looked at the situation in the surroundings, as for the other two they were not moving. Two of the four soldiers were silently eating.

"It's easy for us to give you food, but you guys haven't eaten in a long time, so this is all you can eat for now. But if you answer my question, he might consider giving you more food."

Seeing the blank stare of these people, Airon knew they did not have the energy to answer such a direct question, so he simply used food to get answers.

Looking closely at these men, Airon knew he was right, when these two people heard the word food, their attention focused. And the soldier in the middle told Airon to ask the questions.

Seeing that everyone had recovered a bit, Airon knew it was time to ask, so he asked, "I'm glad everyone is with life, I want to know what types of soldiers they are and why they were trapped in that car."

Just as Airon finished asking that question, all four of them showed pained expressions, as if they had remembered something terrible.

There was a slight moment of silence, and the soldier who had woken up first spoke.

"We belong to the Army's Third Infantry Division. My name is Elias, the person on my left is called Emilio, the two on my right are Diego and Fabian. Our troops had received orders to evacuate the civilians and to contain the sick people, a whole platoon was stationed in this place....

Elias paused and continued, "After our platoon set up camp in this place, fortunately, our mission at that time was to check the vehicles passing by at that time, but after a few days, we received a direct order not to allow anyone to leave the city, so our shelter became a strategic battle point, we did not expect it..."

Speaking up to this point, Elias' words got stuck in his throat, as if thinking of those bad memories flooding his mind, he looked at the walkers on the ground with complicated eyes, and then continued, "Although our temporary base had become a battle point, our platoon leader still accepted all those people leaving the city, but some time later we were besieged by a large number those monsters."

Hearing what Elias said, Rick suddenly spat out one word: "Walkers!"

What?" Elias looked at Rick in bewilderment.

"We call those crazies or monsters the walking dead." Explained Rick with a steady gaze on Elias.

Elias was surprised when he heard what they called them now, and then he couldn't help but smile bitterly.

Emilio who was next to him, seeming to have recovered at that moment, continued to explain, "Crazy, walkers or undead, what's the difference? We could only defend this place for an hour under continuous attack from those things, you know what's the most ridiculous thing? That we lost because the damn civilians went into the camp knowing they were infected."

"Those sons of bitches were infected, by the time we realized that we were getting attacks all over the place. If you can see, our place should have been very strong and because of a moment of compassion, it was just the four of us out of forty people left."

Elias' mood also recovered a bit, so he reassured Emilio and said, "The four of us survived because we had driven for many hours that day and were resting at the time, but soon after when we got in the car to rest, we heard that the scene was out of control and our first move was to get out to help."

"But when we opened the door, hundreds of those things had surrounded our car. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise. This car we picked turned out to have some food and water in it."

"The food and water only lasted us a long time, only our food had run out a few days ago, and we only had water, but it wasn't impossible to even try to get out of the car. We thought we were doomed, but we didn't expect to meet them."

Airon and the others listened to them in silence, although they felt sympathy for what happened to this group of soldiers, to be honest, they were lucky to survive in this world.

After thinking for a moment, Airon asked them, "What are your plans for the future? The situation at this time became hell. I run a base protected by the military where there are many refugees, do you have anyone special to look for?"

Elias looked at Emilio next to him, then said, "I am an orphan, Emilio and the others had family but we don't know their status."

Hearing that, Airon looked at them all and said, "How about coming with us to our base? Hopefully, you might find some familiar faces and even a family member. Our shelter is over 165 people, we are safe and our weaponry is good, we need your help to continue protecting that place from the walkers."

They all looked at each other for a moment, stood up and extended their hands towards Airon with a slight smile.

"That's already more than we expected, what's your name?"

"You can call me Airon, I'm the shelter leader and former soldier, many call me captain!"
