Why Am I a Priestess When I Reach the Maximum Level?

Chapter 61

Chapter 2: The Cloud of Dragon Blood Disease

Vilyric nonchalantly pointed at a bulletin board at the city gate, which was plastered with several paper notices.

Thanks to her superior eyesight from her physical prowess, the Priestess spotted the content of those notices from a distance, and one of them piqued her interest.

“Which one do you mean?”

“Doctor, oh doctor, aren’t you recruiting skilled healers? That’s me!”

“Huh?”

The squad leader scrutinized the black-haired girl in front of him, who wore a confident expression, almost ready to put her hands on her hips. He discreetly glanced at the Little Dragon Daughter following her—her expression was indifferent, her attire peculiar, yet she emanated a dangerous aura.

“The Acting City Lord is indeed seeking healers, but little girl, you look like you’re only sixteen or seventeen. How skilled could you be with medicine? Don’t say I didn’t warn you; this disease isn’t easy to treat, and if you can’t back it up with the right skills, you might end up being seen as a nuisance and thrown in jail for a few days.”

“Don’t worry! I actually have some confidence in my treatment skills!”

Seeing Vilyric pat her flat chest confidently, the squad leader finally believed her a little.

He’d heard of prodigies in the royal capital and big cities, or even in other countries, who, due to talent and strong family support, reached the depths of magic that ordinary people might not reach in decades at such a young age. Perhaps this extraordinary young lady was one of those.

The blonde girl behind her was clearly her escort. Even though the squad leader himself was only at the Copper level, he could see that this girl had impressive skills—she was probably at least Ink Steel level or higher.

So, she must be a noble girl training out in the field, right?

Thinking of this, the squad leader’s demeanor shifted slightly to a more respectful one; he lowered his spear and nodded.

“Alright then, since that’s the case, I’ll take you to meet the Acting City Lord and ask. By the way, who is this blonde little girl?”

“Oh, she is my… um, maid! Yes, my maid! The kind who is really good at fighting and specifically responsible for ensuring my safety.”

Vilyric had almost said sister.

But how could there be sisters who looked so different, with mature features, different hair color, and entirely different figures? That would be stretching it a bit, even for a fantasy world; others aren’t idiots.

So she stuck with the maid set-up; after all, it’s not much different from a pet, right? Rounding it down means she wasn’t lying.

“A maid, huh… As expected… Please follow me, both of you.”

Upon hearing that title, the squad leader confirmed his suspicions even more and, without hesitation, waved to the guards to clear the way, leading Vilyric and Xiao Guang into the city.

The three of them proceeded down the main street of Flame Dragon City.

“Wow, it’s pretty lively here! So many shops and stalls, and I’ve hardly seen any of the things being sold!”

The black-haired girl showed no sign of tension about her upcoming task, strolling joyfully down the street, stopping here and there to toy with interesting little trinkets she found at the stalls. She seemed to be in quite a good mood.

Wanku City, though much larger than Flame Dragon City, was mainly a heavily fortified military metropolis, lacking ample resources and not developing much distinctive culture due to its proximity to the desolate lands of the West.

The local equipment produced in this world was really subpar, not even appealing to Miss Vilyric.

To her, those things seemed far less interesting than the ordinary snacks, toys, and souvenirs.

It’s worth mentioning that this city seemed to have developed a unique worship of dragons due to its tourism culture.

As they walked, Vilyric saw various red dragon plushies, wooden carvings, little dragon claw toys, along with books and albums related to dragons—clearly commemorating and imitating the red dragon that brought wealth and prosperity to the area.

To top it off, Vilyric noticed a massive red dragon statue over ten meters tall made from the local specialty “Red Refining Copper” while passing through the central district.

Though it surely wouldn’t match the real red dragon in size, it was quite lifelike—though one could bet that it probably didn’t look like that at all…

Humans, or rather the United Kingdom, had very limited understanding of true dragons. Other than guessing based on shared characteristics with dragon-blooded beings, the remaining sources of information came from ancient legends.

Most of it was just speculation, an idealized version of something grand and beautiful.

Rather than worshiping the red dragon, the people of Flame Dragon City seemed to simply love the transformative effects of “dragon blood” on their land and lives.

A case of “Ye Gong chasing dragons.”

For some reason, the term suddenly popped into Vilyric’s mind, a saying from Blue Star.

“Miss Vilyric, you look so fresh; is it your first time in Flame Dragon City?”

The squad leader ahead smiled warmly.

It’s undeniable that having a pretty girl helps. If it were two burly men wandering around aimlessly, this guy would probably have grown impatient by now.

But now, all he could see was the delight of witnessing beautiful things, as he didn’t seem to be in any rush at all.

As they walked, Vilyric naturally caught onto the squad leader’s name. She casually picked up a red little dragon pendant from a stall and squeezed it a few times with a “puff puff” sound.

“That’s right! Mr. Daniel, I’ve never been far from home before. This is my first time traveling with my… maid, yes, my maid! A lot of things are really interesting to me.”

If it were an ordinary girl wandering alone, she might hesitate to share these details with a stranger. But Vilyric was different; she had enough confidence in herself and Xiao Guang, and she wasn’t the type of clueless naive girl. She felt quite at ease.

“Hehe, pretty little lady, it looks like you really like Lord Divine Dragon’s plushie! Since Daniel brought you along, you must not be bad people. How about I give you a 20% discount and sell it to you for 16 copper coins?”

The stall owner was an elderly woman who looked to be in her sixties or seventies, wearing a coarse cloth costume with graying hair and a kindly expression. She seemed to really like Vilyric, her wrinkled face smiling with squinting eyes.

“Okay, thank you, grandma!”

Vilyric was not being pretentious at all; she cheerfully pulled out two standard silver coins from the United Kingdom and handed them to the older woman, then properly received the four copper coins in change—she neither gave more nor less.

Money may not have meant much to her, considering the travel expenses she received from Wanku Fortress were in the tens of thousands of gold coins.

But those mere four copper coins represented the old woman’s kindness, and Vilyric naturally wouldn’t act as a high roller, foolishly disrespecting others.

The Priestess casually handed the pendant to Xiao Guang. To her surprise, the Little Dragon Daughter puffed out her cheeks and started muttering.

“Master, what’s so good about this ugly red dragon? It looks like a roasted sweet potato! Is its scale smoother than mine?!”

As she spoke, the Giant Dragon even let slip some of her disguise, stealthily extending her white tail from an unnoticed angle, wrapping it around Vilyric’s calf underneath her robe, and gently rubbing against it, causing her to blush slightly.

It was clear that the Little Dragon Daughter was trying to prove how smooth and soft her scales truly are through this physical action.

“You little brat… stop messing around!”

“Ah! Ouch!”

The righteous iron fist of the Priestess. jpg

That silly pet has really been getting bolder lately, not even worrying about being seen by others.

Daniel silently watched this warm, sweet scene. Although he didn’t see Xiao Guang’s large tail, he could deduce that the “Maid” had just been trying to win over Vilyric.

Though it was just a small detail, from the way Vilyric had nonchalantly touched the elderly woman’s rough palms before and the playful banter with her maid, he could glean a glimpse of this beautiful black-haired girl’s delicate and kind nature.

It appeared that she really wasn’t a suspicious character.

As if suddenly recalling something, he spoke up.

“By the way, Miss Vilyric, just remember when you meet the Acting City Lord not to talk too broadly like you have with me; do your best. Even if you fail, the Acting City Lord shouldn’t lay too much blame on you.”

“Hmm?”

Vilyric, just finished scolding her pet, tilted her head in curiosity. “Speaking of which, I haven’t had the chance to ask why the Acting City Lord is broad recruiting skilled doctors? Is someone important suffering from a troublesome ailment? A relative of hers?”

“Not a relative of the City Lord… Ah, this is a long story. You’re outsiders; you probably haven’t heard of this thing called ‘Dragon Blood Disease,’ right?”

“What’s that?”

“…Forget it; let’s just keep moving. Some things can’t be explained quickly. Once you meet the Acting City Lord and the real patient, you’ll understand.”

Seemingly evasive, Daniel abruptly changed the subject and continued walking.

“…?”

Vilyric and the Little Dragon Daughter exchanged puzzled glances and bade farewell to the cheerful old woman as they quickly followed Daniel toward the City Lord’s mansion.

It seemed that the ancient red dragon had brought more than just goodwill to the local residents…

A while after the three departed.

“Ah!!”

The elderly woman managing the stall suddenly turned pale, spitting out blood mixed with dark red spots, screaming as she collapsed and knocked over a whole bunch of goods.

“Hey! What happened?!”

“Grandma Amanda? Pull yourself together!”

“Quick, get her to the clinic!”

“No, wait…”

Among the panicked crowd that rushed over, a middle-aged man who looked like a noble began to go pale, his gaze locked on the old woman whose skin was starting to show red spots, slowly stepping back in terror.

As if witnessing something horrifying.

“This… this is… Dragon Blood Disease!!”
