Chapter 140: Pay Attention
Alvin smiled and shook his head slightly. "Sigh... seems like I haven't rested enough after all that training. I could swear the supervisor is our guy."
Milia nodded, refusing to believe her eyes. "Indeed. Still, there are a lot of Familiars that look like each other in this Universe. That supervisor is just somewhat identical to him. That's all."
Then, the 'supervisor' looked at Alvin's group. "Oh! Alvin, Milia, you came. However, don't expect me to go easy on you two. As the supervisor this time around, I'm absolutely doing my best."
Milia and Alvin's mouths twitched. Two days... they hadn't seen Linfel for just two days! Finally, they couldn't hold it back anymore. "HOW THE HELL YOU BECAME A SUPERVISOR OF THE VENTIS SECT?!"
---
Going back two days in time, Linfel was at the city center, gathering information. He wanted to find the fastest way to become an elder. It was then that he received a call through his MCOM. Seeing the person's name, he got confused. "Hum? Elder Alexandra?"
-Hi, Linfel. It's been over a week since we last saw each other.-
Linfel nodded. "Indeed. I just didn't expect senior Alexandra to contact me like this. Did I do something wrong?"
-Not at all,- Alexandra shook her head. -Instead, it is something good. I showed your test results to the higher-ups in the sect, and they are quite surprised with your scores. Above all, they saw how your Magic Energy Control was the best within all the participants of the last test. So, I just want to tell that you have been cleared from the exam. You can start leveling anytime you feel like it.-
"I have?" Linfel was surprised. It was indeed good news. I won't need to pay 150 Ventis Credits to take the test anymore. "That's great!"
Of course, since Alexandra called him, he had to take the chance to ask. "By the way, Elder Alexandra. I intend to go up in the ranks of the Ventis Sect as fast as possible. I wish to become an elder in the future. Do you know a way to realize this fast?"
Alexandra couldn't help but laugh. -Hahaha! An elder? Little guy, it took me almost a hundred years to reach Level Eight. That's what you need to do, reach Level Eight first. You have many years ahead of you still.-
"Level Eight..." Linfel remembered that it was indeed a requirement back when he searched for it with Alvin. "That's gonna take a while..."
-Well, that's not the only way, of course.- Alexandra added. -You can also become kind of a supporting elder at lower levels, but that requires huge contributions.-
Linfel's interest was piqued. "What kind of contributions? If it is Universal Credits, I'm afraid I'm not very rich."
-What? Universal Credits? There is no way you could become an elder of the Ventis Sect through Universal Credits. Boy, do you think the Ventis Sect lacks Universal Credits at all?-
"Well... that's true," Linfel admitted he was wrong. "Then what kind of contributions."
-Pretty much any kind. But usually, a supporting elder is exactly that, a kind of support. They were disciples who had cleared the Magic Control Test and started to help out with other Sect Tasks that demanded some particular sets of skills.-
She continued. -For example, do you remember Glien?-
Linfel nodded. "He was one of the organizers of the test on Serfen Planet, right?" Glien was the same guy Linfel met at the top of the Space Elevator. He even spoke to Linfel about how the Ventis Sect put immense importance on one's Magic Energy Control before anything else. He also allowed Linfel and Alvin to get past the third test without taking it.
-That's him alright. He is what you could call a supporting Elder. He isn't a Minor Elder like me, much less an Inner Elder like Mosie. A supporting elder is below in the hierarchy chain. Nonetheless, they are given almost similar treatment to Minor Elders like me due to their great contributions to the Sect. It is definitely worth becoming one...
and also incredible difficulty.-
-In Glien's case, he proved that his organizational skills, test building, talent checking, and things like that were top-notch. Every time the exams start to be carried out every six months, you can be sure he will be included in the teams organizing such exams.-
Linfel was more than happy to accept the role of a supporting elder. "Something you excel at... I'm extremely confident in my Magic Energy Control. Is there some way I can use it to vie for a Supporting Elder Role?"
-Well... considering that Magic Energy Control is an absolute must in the Ventis Sect, we are filled with Maguses and Familiars who excel at it. You would need to add something to the bag on top of that.-
"Hum..." Then, Linfel remembered the Magic Energy Control test in two days. "Right! I'm not only good at Magic Energy Control but also at feeling the Magic Energy around me. It is particularly efficient to help others in their training. You remember Alvin, right? He became like that by following my instructions.
I could be some kind of teacher or whatever."
-Let me see... Well, it would still take a few years, and you will have to do a lot, but it should be possible. Still, I saw what you were capable of, so I'll give you a cup of tea. There is another magic Energy Control test happening in your area soon. I will send a message to the testing area and have them test you instead. If you pass their test, you can become a supervisor for the exams.
It won't make you a supporting elder, but it is definitely a good start. Or, of course, you could level up and wait to reach Stage Eight.-
Linfel didn't need to hear it twice. "Great! Then, let me take the test to become a supervisor of the exam."
The next day, Linfel went through various tests, most regarding his Magic Energy Control and his situational view of things. It goes without saying he smashed all Magic Energy Control tests, with few ever being as good at it as him during the same Level. But, above all, he was great at identifying and guiding talents through Magic Energy Sense.
It was to the point that the Manager of the testing building in the area sent a message back to Alexandra, thanking her for finding him a good new supervisor for the exams since they were slightly lacking people at that time... although he commented about Linfel's weird common sense, which Alexandra just told him to ignore.
It was all in Linfel's files about how he was born through very weird choices during his soul creation. They even had access to Heffal Country's files regarding these issues.
Thus, Linfel was now there, acting as supervisor of the exam for the first time. It was his initial step to become a supporting elder. He even asked to test his friends. Normally, such a thing wouldn't be allowed. The supervisors would always be selected at random within those available in the testing building. But...
just for this one little thing, Linfel used his Magic Energy Copy to make sure he was the one testing Alvin and the others. It still looked like he was selected at random, though.
Well, there was no need for anyone to worry, even if they found out what Linfel did. The reason was simple. He absolutely wouldn't go easy on Alvin and Milia. If anything, he might go even harder on them on purpose.

Back in the present, Linfel turned to the rest of the participants. "Alright, I will now explain your test this time around. Pay attention since I won't do it twice."
