Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Secret Realm Exploration Part 2
Exiting the twisted forest, Richard found himself in a valley surrounded by black rocks, with sparse bushes and wild grass growing in the crevices. Deep within the valley, he discovered dense clusters of black crystals.
Upon closer inspection, Richard gasped in shock.
Those black crystals were none other than the magic stones he used regularly.
A place where magic stones grew naturally—if he told anyone in the current wizarding world, they'd surely think him mad.
"Incredible, truly incredible. A valley full of magic stones, there must be at least a million here," Richard marveled, descending into the valley to examine the magic stone vein more closely.
He planned to collect some stones along the way.
In today's wizarding world, there were no longer any magic stone veins open for mining; all circulating stones came from other worlds.
As Richard ventured deeper, he meticulously examined each crystal cluster.
Observation and study—this is how a wizard's knowledge accumulates, bit by bit.
Perhaps a single detail might become his breakthrough in future challenges.
As he delved deeper, he stumbled upon a pile of bones, obscured by fallen magic stones, nearly invisible unless approached closely.
"Something's not right, these magic stones..."
Suddenly, Richard's instincts screamed danger. He reflexively threw himself backward, his bloodline seed in his heart igniting instantly.
Ding!
A long worm struck the spot where Richard had just stood.
The worm was covered in crystalline scales, resembling the magic stones, making it nearly invisible among them.
"This isn't good."
Richard noticed the magic stones on the bones vibrating, the sound of stones grinding against each other filling his ears.
Looking at the valley littered with magic stones, Richard felt a chill run down his spine.
How many such creatures were hidden among these stones?
"I need to leave, now."
Without hesitation, Richard abandoned any thoughts of collecting magic stones, snatching up the struggling crystalline worm and sprinting away.
He didn't care about the stones, but this worm was unlike anything he'd seen before, perfect for study upon return.
Just after he left, a mass of crystalline worms, like flowing water, covered the spot where he had stood.
Had Richard lingered even a few seconds longer, his secret realm exploration might have ended disastrously.
Leaving the valley, Richard continued his exploration, eventually finding the primary ingredient for the physical enhancement potion—Egle Grass—in a mountain hollow.
And there was plenty of it.
Faced with the abundant Egle Grass, Richard made a decisive choice to stop wandering the secret realm and instead collect the entire patch.
With little time left, the immediate gain was clearly more valuable than uncertain future prospects.
With this Egle Grass, Richard could produce dozens of physical enhancement potions.
Even if he chose not to make potions, specimens of these extinct plants could fetch a hefty sum in magic stones.
The three-hour exploration ended quickly, the scrolls activating and ejecting all apprentices from the secret realm, returning them to the room they had entered from.
Richard rubbed his head, suppressing the urge to vomit.
The scroll's teleportation was more disorienting than a teleportation array.
"Exploration complete."
The Grand Wizard snapped his fingers, and tiny sprites flew from the room's corners, showering the apprentices with glowing powder.
As the powder touched his skin, Richard felt a cool sensation, and the nausea vanished.
"Take your apprentices and go. You've seen what they selected; remember to include natural history in your teachings," the Grand Wizard said, snapping his fingers again. The sprites exploded into light particles and vanished.
"Next is the award ceremony. The top three on the leaderboard receive special rewards. I pondered long over what to give, fearing anything might seem too modest for a principal," the Grand Wizard sighed, seemingly troubled. "But a recent accident gave me an answer."
With a wave of his hand, six crystal balls appeared before everyone.
"A few days ago, while piecing together the secret realm, I lost some fragments. Letting them dissipate would be wasteful, so I collected them," the Grand Wizard chuckled, a hint of pride in his eyes. "I believe this reward befits my title as principal."
Upon hearing the reward, all the wizards except Ereks trembled slightly.
The reason was simple: the reward was exceedingly valuable.
Though called fragments, secret realm fragments are actually small secret realms with all the rules and features intact.
Whether testing spells, cultivating organisms, or serving as an emergency refuge, a secret realm fragment could do it all.
And since these fragments were from the Grand Wizard's secret realm, they were far superior to the ones sold by the wizarding guild, which served merely as portable storage.
The wizards glanced at Ereks, their looks conveying a clear message.
"Shouldn't you advise the principal against such lavish gifts?"
If news of this spread, some wizards might entertain unsavory thoughts.
Ereks ignored the glances.
If he could dissuade the principal, things wouldn't be like this now.
"Look at you all, getting worked up over a few hundred square meters of fragments," the Grand Wizard mocked, smiling. "Take your apprentices and leave."
With that, the Grand Wizard yawned and waved his hand.
The scenery shifted, and they found themselves outside the room.
"This reward might be a bit excessive, so keep it under wraps," Ereks advised, pinching his brow.
As the Grand Wizard's deputy, he was responsible for managing the fallout of such actions.
"Also, don't spread the word about the White Wizard issue the principal mentioned," Ereks added. "The principal is impulsive; it might take a decade to see progress."
White Wizard?
Richard's heart skipped a beat. From the deputy's words, it seemed there was a distinction between black and white wizards, and he likely belonged to the former.
The wizards nodded and led their apprentices away.
Back in the lab, Jolord closed the door tightly, looking at Richard with a serious expression.
"Don't speak of the secret realm fragments to anyone. They're highly valuable and could cause significant trouble if word spreads."
Richard nodded, understanding from Jolord's demeanor that the fragments were indeed extraordinary.
"Also, I saw what you collected in the secret realm. You can breed the Magic Striped Worm without worry; I have the Truth Council's breeding permit. As for everything else..."
Jolord sighed. Richard's performance, while better than other apprentices, was limited.
"Besides that Magic Crystal Arrow Worm, nothing else is particularly useful."
Magic Crystal Arrow Worm?
Richard recalled the worm that had ambushed him.
"Magic Crystal Arrow Worms are extinct in the wizarding world, so they have research value. It's a pity you didn't capture more; you could have bred a batch," Jolord said regretfully. He was interested in the worm's anatomy but felt awkward asking for it as Richard's mentor.
Richard grinned sheepishly. Given the circumstances, catching one was a testament to his curiosity.
With Jolord finished, Richard hesitated.
Should he ask about the White Wizards?
Jolord seemed to read his thoughts and tapped his head.
"Got something on your mind? Just ask about the White Wizards directly. Are you doubting me?"
