Chapter 116: The Power of the Demon Puppet
"Someone's trying to kill me!" The thought flashed through Lin Langtian's mind as he quickly retreated. The arrow aimed at him fell harmlessly to the ground.
As he stepped back, more arrows whistled through the air, raining down like a deadly storm. Lin Langtian smirked. With powerful yuan energy shielding him and his spiritual awareness keenly tracking each arrow's path, he easily dodged them all.
"Thud! Thud!" The arrows embedded themselves into the ground, quivering as they landed. Lin Langtian's eyes flashed coldly, and with a quick movement, he unleashed a surge of yuan energy. The arrows shifted direction, reversing mid-flight and hurtling back toward the rooftops.
In moments, low grunts echoed as a dozen archers fell from their perches, disarmed and defeated.
"Who are you people?" Lin Langtian demanded coldly.
"Hmph! You stole from the Huo Clan of the Great Chen Kingdom and still have the audacity to ask who we are? Such gall!" A cold voice interrupted. Lin Langtian turned to see two men standing a short distance away, their expressions steely.
Lin Langtian raised an eyebrow. "The Huo Clan of the Great Chen Kingdom?" He had heard of the Great Chen Kingdom, a kingdom with a long-standing history that, though downgraded in recent decades, once rivaled the most powerful in the region.
From the powerful aura these men emanated, Lin Langtian deduced that they both possessed half-step Nirvana strength—a testament to the Huo Clan's power.
Lin Langtian sneered, "The Huo Clan of the Great Chen Kingdom? So what? Are you in the habit of wrongfully accusing people?"
"Wrongfully accused?" One of the men spoke, his voice cold and dismissive. "Our family's Tracking Bees have already picked up the scent of the ancient map on you. You have no room to deny it. You stole from us, and we've pursued you all the way here to the Great Qing Kingdom. Surrender now!"
"An ancient map, and Tracking Bees?" Lin Langtian frowned, instantly piecing it together—it was the old map he had acquired from the cloaked man in the black market. Realization dawned: the man had likely conned him into becoming a scapegoat.
Still, seeing the Huo Clan's interest in the map, Lin Langtian's irritation transformed into cautious curiosity. The map, it seemed, was of far greater value than he had thought, and despite the trouble, he could see its potential worth.
Turning his gaze back to the two Huo Clan warriors, Lin Langtian smirked. "The thief you seek is someone else entirely. Whether you believe me is up to you. But if you try to interfere with me, I won't be polite."
His firm words stunned the Huo Clan warriors momentarily, but their shock quickly turned to anger.
"You arrogant thief!" one of them snarled. "You dare to try and turn the tables on us? Today, we'll capture you and bring you back to taste the Huo Clan's tenfold punishment!"
With a swift motion, the warrior surged forward, his yuan energy forming a powerful force around him, looming above Lin Langtian like a small mountain. But as the attack closed in, a burst of dark energy appeared before Lin Langtian.
From the black mist, the fierce form of his demon puppet took shape.
"Bang!" The demon puppet appeared, cloaked in dark energy, and delivered a powerful punch. The air distorted as its fist cut through, dark energy pooling at its core as it made impact.
Caught off guard by the demon puppet's unexpected power, the Huo warrior tried to increase his yuan energy output, his energy attack intensifying. But he was too late. The demon puppet's punch struck his yuan energy construct, shattering it with ease.
"Boom!" The force was so intense that the illusionary mountain collapsed as if made of sand. Without pausing, the puppet's attack continued, slamming into the Huo warrior's chest.
"Thud!" The impact reverberated through his body, shattering his armor and releasing a flood of dark energy. Blood spurted from the warrior's mouth as he was thrown backward, crashing into the ground and sliding across the cobblestones, creating a trench several meters long.
In a single blow, a half-step Nirvana warrior was defeated!
Seeing his ally fall so effortlessly, the other Huo warrior's face went pale with fear as he stammered, "It's a…a spirit puppet!"
He was right—the only thing with such overwhelming strength was a spirit puppet as powerful as a Nirvana warrior.
Not daring to stay any longer, the second Huo warrior turned and fled in terror.
"Kill him." Lin Langtian's voice was cold as he pointed toward the escaping man.
The demon puppet moved instantly, its massive form racing forward, dark energy trailing behind it in streaks as it pursued the fleeing warrior. The man barely made it a few paces before a scream echoed from down the street.
The demon puppet returned, dragging the lifeless body of the second Huo warrior with ease.
"Impressive strength," Lin Langtian murmured. He hadn't fully anticipated just how powerful the puppet had become with its enhancements. It seemed nearly on par with a first-level Nirvana warrior.
After searching the fallen Huo warriors, Lin Langtian found nothing of great value. Disappointed, he collected himself, then commanded the puppet back into the inner world of the Golden Spirit Wheel Mirror.
Storing the ancient map there as well, he took extra precautions against any tracking or spying attempts the Huo Clan might attempt.
With everything secure, Lin Langtian nodded in satisfaction, casting a glance at his Golden Crow perched on his shoulder. His next destination was set: the Wildland Prefecture of the Great Yan Kingdom.
