Chapter 117: The Great Wilderness Stele

After leaving the Great Qing Kingdom, Lin Langtian spent half a month traveling before finally arriving in the Great Yan Kingdom's Wildland Prefecture. He sat cross-legged atop a mountain peak, his gaze fixed northwest, in the direction of the Great Wilderness Stele.

At the peak, Lin Langtian studied an ancient map fragment in his hand, frowning.

"Sigh, after studying this map for half a month, I'm no closer to solving it," he muttered, shaking his head in frustration.

The old map was a mystery he had acquired during an underground market trade—a transaction that nearly cost him his life when assassins from a powerful family in the Great Chen Kingdom pursued him. The assassins' determination had made it clear that this map held a significant secret. Yet despite his efforts, Lin Langtian had been unable to decipher it.

"This map may require a special medium to reveal its secrets. Just pondering it won't be enough. If you happen to encounter something compatible with it, you may be able to unlock its mysteries," said Ling Yi softly.

At her full strength, Ling Yi might have been able to help unlock the map's secrets, but as a mere spirit now, her powers were limited. Lin Langtian sighed and nodded.

"Only a few more days until the Great Wilderness Stele's seal weakens."

Reining in his disappointment, Lin Langtian stored the map in his mirror-world and turned his gaze northwest. The Great Wilderness Stele, famed throughout the Wildland Prefecture and even across the Great Yan Kingdom, was a monumental event. Each time its seal weakened, it drew powerful individuals from the kingdom and surrounding regions, all seeking the treasures hidden within.

The ancient sect that once inhabited this stele had amassed treasures of unimaginable power. Anyone fortunate enough to obtain even a fraction could soar to new heights, transforming themselves overnight.

For Lin Langtian, the Great Wilderness Stele represented a tremendous opportunity. Whether it was the ancestral Devouring Talisman or the mysterious Martial Creation Stele that granted martial techniques of varying levels, there was much to gain. If he could obtain both the talisman and a powerful martial technique, it would be a perfect outcome.

"Jinwu!" he called, raising a hand. Instantly, a gleaming black-and-gold bird swooped down from the sky, landing gracefully on his shoulder. Stroking Jinwu's sleek feathers, Lin Langtian summoned his yuan energy, conjuring a massive eagle beneath him. With a single leap, he landed on the eagle's back and soared into the sky.

Upon reaching the edge of the Great Wilderness Stele Plain, Lin Langtian looked down upon a vast expanse where countless figures moved like ants across the land below. In the surrounding skies, more people flew on various flying mounts and spirit treasures, streaking like comets toward the stele.

"It's certainly lively," he mused, raising an eyebrow at the sight.

"This plain has a unique energy field that restricts flight. The deeper one goes, the stronger the effect. At a certain point, flying becomes impossible," Ling Yi informed him. "But this shouldn't pose a problem for you."

Lin Langtian nodded and spurred his yuan-energy eagle onward. As they flew deeper into the Great Wilderness Plain, where few could navigate the energy field, the sight of his airborne approach turned many heads below.

The people stopped to stare as he and his yuan-energy eagle descended. Cloaked in a light blue robe with flowing hair, Lin Langtian's composed expression and striking features made him stand out like a beacon amidst the crowd.

"That's Lin Langtian of the Lin Clan!" murmurs rippled through the crowd, particularly among the women, whose eyes sparkled with interest.

Even in the Wildland Prefecture, Lin Langtian's name carried weight. Known as a young prodigy of the Great Yan Kingdom, he was seen as one of the elite among his generation. Rumors had circulated about his recent confrontation with a powerhouse from a neighboring kingdom's powerful family, whom he had singlehandedly defeated—a feat that awed even the older generation.

In this moment, Lin Langtian exuded an almost regal aura, his presence overwhelming those around him. Yet his expression remained calm. Now that he had chosen his path, the Great Yan Kingdom felt to him like a mere waystation, a place he might someday remember with fond nostalgia. But for now, he had one goal: to pursue a higher self, far beyond this kingdom's boundaries.

Ignoring the attention around him, Lin Langtian fixed his gaze on the Great Wilderness Stele standing in the heart of the plains.

In the distance, his eyes took in a massive stone stele, nearly a thousand feet tall, standing silent and ancient. Even from afar, he could feel an aura of strength and timelessness emanating from it, like an ancient witness to the glory of a bygone age.

The surface of the stele was covered in enormous symbols that pulsed with a faint light, emanating a vast and overwhelming power that seemed to tear through space itself.

Like a stairway connecting earth and sky, the stele loomed over the plain with an aura both grand and ancient.

"So, this is the Great Wilderness Stele…" Lin Langtian murmured, awestruck at the sight.
