Chapter 70 - Why Are You Unhappy? I
Linda was no ordinary girl with supernatural powers. At least one-third of her body was composed of various parts and metals. This reality, which sounded quite sci-fi, was obviously far beyond Bai Xi’s imagination again. He decisively poured himself a glass of wine to calm down: “Future warrior or robot?”
“When she was born, she was a pitiful deformed child,” Han Zhuo said. “She only had half a skull, her eyesight was damaged, her heart wasn’t fully developed, and her bones were as brittle as glass. All in all, she was a very unlucky little girl.”
Cruelly and predictably, she was abandoned next to a garbage dump, but her tenacious vitality allowed her to survive in the cold wind for a whole night before a man picked her up and brought her home.
That man raised Linda, but she never called him “father.” When describing her past to Daisy, she chewed gum and casually referred to him as “that damn man.”
“Was he not good to you?” Daisy asked worriedly.
“No, he was very nice to me, very nice, but that’s because he wanted to use me for experiments,” Linda sat on the bar, her pink hair hanging down from the side of her face. “He fixed me, or simply said… recreated me.”
The girl refused to reveal who “that man” was, but Daisy could vaguely infer from her words that he must have been a very smart doctor. He was also very kind to the “daughter” he picked up, and could even be called a bastard for his unprincipled doting to her—letting her drop out of school and then go to another city alone to form an underground band.
“She was originally a lead singer,” Han Zhuo said. “But because of her beloved Aspis, she volunteered to take his place.”
“What about the underground warehouse?” Bai Xi asked again.
“Linda was captured by them when she first came to this city,” Han Zhuo said. “The secrets in her body surprised the scientists there, because even underground warehouses couldn’t make metal and human tissue fuse so perfectly. So, they tried to cut off Linda’s left arm, but were attacked by a huge force and fainted.”
Bai Xi said, “Explosion shock wave.”
“You have a very rich vocabulary,” Han Zhuo smiled, took his wine glass, and drank it down in one gulp. “I don’t know what it was. It wasn’t an explosion. Everything in the laboratory was intact, except for the people. When they woke up, Linda had disappeared.”
This was a provocation to the underground warehouse’s supposedly strictest security measures, but it also aroused Shi Tian’s great interest. Under his instruction, Linda was taken back again and again by the pursuers, but also escaped again and again. The scientist discovered that there seemed to be a huge energy in the girl’s body, which could only be realized when she truly felt it. It would only be released when her life was threatened, even in a comatose state.
“There has never been any record of such a power,” Han Zhuo said. “In normal times, she is just an ordinary violent girl, but once she falls into the hands of the underground warehouse, her power is enough to destroy the world.”
“Could it be related to the person who transformed her?” Bai Xi guessed.
“It’s possible, that’s why the underground warehouse kept pestering her,” Han Zhuo said. “After countless escapes, for Linda, this had become a more exciting game than being a bartender. Being captured and drugged, waking up at the moment when danger was approaching, and then after everyone was unconscious, picking up a chair, smashing the experimental equipment, and then taking away a bag of diamonds in the corner.”
“Wait,” Bai Xi said, “a pocket of diamonds?”
“A gift from Shi Tian,” Han Zhuo nodded. “He called her a cute little magician, and he really liked watching her under surveillance, watching her break through different protective shields every time, and finally leave in a big way.” Since they couldn’t temporarily control this weird metal girl, observing her escape reaction carefully was considered a kind of experiment.
“It’s very magical,” Bai Xi said. “Whether it’s the body of the superpower or the whole thing, it’s very magical.”
“She likes Aspis (Mr. Wang). This is a secret that everyone knew,” Han Zhuo said. “But because the other person is more violent, cruel, and superior than her, this feeling never received any response at all.”
“I think,” Bai Xi said quietly but seriously, “Chunchun is more suitable.”
“It doesn’t matter what you say, this is a story between two people,” Han Zhuo pinched his nose. “Want to go out for another drink? There are special items this month.”
“But you just agreed to romantic dinner for the prince and princess,” Bai Xi reminded.
“It’s just a meal,” Han Zhuo didn’t care.
“Mark Li invited me to dinner next week.”
“…”
Linda stood on the bar screaming and laughing, the champagne splashing in her hand reflecting the light and falling on every reveller.
This bustling bar was their paradise and last refuge.
