Chapter 56 - Leisure Time (1)
An Yun looked at Zang Ya and found that while he told this series of things, the expression on his face never changed much, and he remained calm from beginning to end. It seemed that Zang Ya was just telling a story that had nothing to do with him, narrating someone else’s story in a straightforward manner.
An Yun pursed his lips, not knowing whether to feel grateful that Zang Ya was born with such an indifferent character, or to feel sad about it.
Because he couldn’t feel the corresponding emotions, Zang Ya wouldn’t be sad or upset, let alone experience unnecessary emotions.
But because he couldn’t feel emotions, he couldn’t detect the happiness that ordinary people could easily experience, and he lost a lot of joy in life.
When An Yun thought of this, he felt a little uncomfortable and dull in his heart.
After Zang Ya said those words, he observed the ever-changing expressions on An Yun’s face. Sadness, sympathy, confusion, and bewilderment all appeared on An Yun’s face like a revolving lantern. Zang Ya watched with great interest.
“What’s wrong?” Looking at An Yun, who was now immersed in unknown emotions, Zang Ya finally couldn’t help but ask.
Hearing the sound, An Yun came back to his senses and looked up in Zang Ya’s direction. Seeing him staring at him for a moment, seemingly worried, he shook his head and whispered, “It’s okay, I was just thinking about other things and got a little distracted.”
An Yun felt that there was no need to tell Zang Ya what he had been thinking. After all, Zang Ya was unaware of emotions now, and there was nothing wrong with not feeling sadness.
If he didn’t notice it, there would be no traces left in his heart, and he wouldn’t dwell on it.
If he became aware of it and constantly thought about how he was different from ordinary people, it would only make things worse.
After listening to An Yun’s words, Zang Ya tilted his head and looked at him. After a moment, he nodded and said with a smile, “Yeah.”
He knew that this wasn’t what An Yun had been thinking just now, but since An Yun didn’t want to say it, there was no need for him to dig deeper.
An Yun breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that Zang Ya would no longer pursue the issue, but soon he thought of another question and continued: “By the way, since so many people want you and your father dead, then why are you just passively taking the hits like this? As the old saying goes, you can be on guard against a thief for a thousand days, but never the one constantly on guard. You have no idea who they are or when they will strike. If they suddenly appear next time and try to assassinate you, what will you do?”
When An Yun said this, the worry in his eyes almost overflowed, and there was even a hint of sadness in his expression.
Zang Ya gently combed the wind-blown hair from his cheeks, stretched out his hand to press on An Yun’s furrowed brow, and pushed it to both sides, as if he wanted to smooth it out. “Don’t worry, Father has already thought of a way. Soon, we’ll be able to get out of this situation.”
When Zang Ya said this, his voice wasn’t loud, but his tone was extremely determined, even carrying a somewhat meaningful undertone.
An Yun, reassured by him, thought that Zang Ya usually handled matters with care, so his brows gradually relaxed. He nodded firmly and responded, “Well, I believe you.”
Zang Ya looked at An Yun, who smiled for a moment, and his lips unconsciously curved into a smile as well, softening his whole demeanour.
The two sat in the pavilion for a while, and then Zang Ya led An Yun around the garden, introducing each scene one by one.
An Yun listened as Zang Ya spoke eloquently about a rockery garden, and he became even more impressed. He felt that the Zang family was truly worthy of being a family that had been passed down for so many generations. Even though they weren’t always in harmony in their daily lives, they still maintained proper etiquette, and every gesture was full of grace.
.
In the days that followed, An Yun accompanied Zang Ya as he recuperated at home, and the two of them kept a very regular schedule.
Except for a few special places in the house, Zang Ya took him around the rest of the areas, and An Yun got a thorough look at how big the house was.
An Yun secretly clicked his tongue, feeling some inexplicable emotions in his heart. If it had been him in his previous life, he would never have been able to step into a place like this. However, An Yun soon put these feelings behind him. After all, all living beings were similar to his fate, and only a few lived well.
While Zang Ya was recovering from his injuries, Old Madam Zang and Zang Ke often visited him at home, and they even brought a lot of things over.
Every time they came, a servant would notify them in advance, so An Yun would receive the message early and avoid contact with them, which meant there was never any conflict.
An Yun watched them from a distance each time and saw that their concern for Zang Ya didn’t seem fake; they were sincerely worried about his health.
Seeing this, An Yun sighed a little. Maybe Old Madam Zang and Zang Ke’s care and love for Zang Ya were genuine, but there were more important things than Zang Ya, so they would still occasionally overlook him to focus on other matters.
Whenever An Yun thought about this, his feelings toward Zang Ya grew a little more complicated. When he tended to Zang Ya on ordinary days, he also felt a bit better. Even with Zang Ya’s usual behaviour of staying by his side and hugging him, An Yun was able to feel much calmer.
Zang Ya’s injuries improved day by day, the weather began to get colder, and the leaves quietly turned yellow.
