Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Peter’s Worries! Luke Cage Appears!
"No way!"
"Now's not the time to be happy!"
Peter quickly shook his head, pushing aside the excitement that had crept into his mind.
Sure, he had grown taller, and his body looked amazing.
But as a top student, Peter was well aware that sudden changes like this weren't necessarily a good thing.
What if he woke up tomorrow and turned into a monster?
The image of himself transforming into a horrifying creature and scaring Aunt May flashed through his mind.
Peter's face went pale.
"No… I don't want to become some kind of monster!"
Peter shook his head harder, trying to push away the thought.
He stepped out of the bathroom and glanced toward Aunt May's room.
For a brief moment, he thought about telling her everything.
But then the image of turning into a monster resurfaced, and Peter immediately dropped the idea.
"No, I need to figure out what's happening to me first!"
Determined, Peter went back to his room, grabbed his shoes and backpack, and quietly slipped out of the house.
Downstairs in the kitchen, Peter spotted a note on the table.
Despite the dim light, his vision didn't seem affected at all.
He could clearly make out the words written on the paper:
[I came back and saw you were still asleep. Tired today, huh, little guy?]
[I made your favorite beef rolls and left them in the fridge. Heat them up in the microwave when you wake up.]
[Love you—Aunt May.]
Peter felt his nose sting as tears threatened to come out.
Thinking about how much Aunt May cared for him made his heart ache.
What if he really turned into a monster?
How would he face her then?
"No… I can't let that happen!"
Peter clenched his fists, set the note back on the table, and left the house.
The streets of Queens were eerily quiet at night.
Only the distant barking of dogs and the occasional shout from drunken homeless men filled the air.
It was the kind of atmosphere that made people stay inside.
Peter couldn't help but feel a chill run down his spine as he stepped out into the darkness.
For a moment, he thought about turning back.
But then he reminded himself why he was out here in the first place.
With renewed determination, he pushed forward, heading toward an abandoned warehouse he knew about.
As Peter ran, he quickly realized something strange.
His speed was insane!
The scenery around him blurred as if he were riding a speeding car.
The wind rushed past him, and he felt light as a feather.
On a whim, he decided to jump.
And suddenly, his body soared nearly ten meters into the air.
"Whoa—!"
Peter barely avoided slamming his head against a building wall.
Shocked, he landed and quickly decided to stop messing around.
It wasn't long before he reached the warehouse.
What should've been a thirty-minute run took him only a few minutes.
Peter was amazed at what his body could do.
At the same time, a new wave of worry crept into his heart.
"What if this has side effects?"
Peter shook his head, trying not to let fear get the better of him.
He needed answers.
Not far from where Peter had passed, a tall, muscular black man stood at the entrance of an alley.
He carried a garbage bag in one hand, looking in the direction where Peter had disappeared.
"That speed… is he like me?"
Luke Cage muttered to himself.
After thinking for a moment, he made up his mind to follow.
Tossing the trash bag into a nearby bin, he took off running in the same direction Peter had gone.
Inside the warehouse, Peter began testing his new abilities.
He was shocked to discover just how much he had changed.
His speed was incredible, his jumps were superhuman, and his strength was unreal.
Peter effortlessly lifted heavy crates that should've been impossible for someone his size.
And no matter how much he pushed himself—running, jumping, and lifting—he didn't feel tired at all.
It was as if his body had endless energy.
Peter also revisited the strange ability he'd discovered earlier—his hands could stick to things.
It wasn't glue.
It was more like static electricity, allowing him to cling to walls and climb them like a spider.
Peter's eyes widened.
"Wait… spider?"
His hand shot to the back of his neck.
Sure enough, he felt a small bump where something had bitten him.
"The spider from Osborn Labs…"
Peter's heart raced as he remembered the moment he got bitten.
Could that spider have caused all this?
"Am I going to turn into some kind of giant spider?!"
Peter shuddered at the thought.
But then he remembered something else.
A few days ago, there had been news reports about a superhero dressed like a spider fighting crime in Liberty City.
She had similar abilities—speed, strength, and wall-crawling.
"Could she have been bitten by a spider too?"
Peter's curiosity peaked.
He tried to mimic her web-shooting pose, flicking his wrist and pressing his fingers.
Nothing happened.
Peter tried again.
Still nothing.
"Guess I can't shoot webs."
Peter felt both relieved and disappointed.
At least he wasn't turning into a literal spider.
But the more he thought about Spider-Woman, the more questions he had.
"Is this how she got her powers too?"
He decided he needed answers—soon.
