Attack Of Parasites

Chapter 24: The punishment

Izumi remained frozen in place, motionless, but the question was: for how long? Was Migi's energy enough to prolong the fight until Izumi felt ready to make his move according to the plan? The enemy was swinging his weapon at him about 600 times a minute; if Migi failed to block even a single strike, it would be enough to send Izumi to his grave.

"I can't just stand here doing nothing. They're too fast; I can't see anything. Can I really stick to the agreement I made?" Izumi thought aloud.

His pupils glowed with intensity, his eyes wide as he recalled his conversation with Migi about the right hand. "To win, we need to work as a team. I'll pretend he's stronger and faster than me, that I can't attack him. I'll fall back and defend from close to you. This will make my defense impenetrable. I deduced from our encounter with Professor Tamiya that this man underestimates human abilities, viewing us as beings unworthy of his level. With this, you'll be out of his calculations; he'll focus all his attention on me. I'll be the defense, and you'll be the offense."

Finally, Izumi decided to move after his glasses were shattered by the man's weapon, which had increased the speed of his attacks to the maximum. Migi's delayed defense by a fraction of a second had led to the destruction of the glasses.

With slow steps, Izumi advanced, sparks flying in front of him. He paused for a moment, assured that the man showed no reaction; he didn't hesitate or alter his attack…

"Migi was right. The man thinks I'm incapable of doing anything. Well, I'll do it—now or never," Izumi thought aloud.

He placed his hand behind his back, took the weapon in his left hand, and with two quick steps, plunged the sharp metal weapon just below the rib cage, piercing the liver.

The man let out a surprised sound as he felt the sting, his attack stopping instinctively. He lowered his gaze to the source of the pain—a metal tube lodged in his body, blood gushing through the wound. Gathering his strength, he prepared for one last attack, raising his two axes high and bringing them down with all his might. Izumi stumbled backward in confusion, but Migi remained unaffected by his host's loss of balance. He blocked the attack by forming a tower shield, "a heavy shield made of titanium."

"What is this tube!!!" Weak and swaying, the man struggled to remain standing.

"A table leg!!! My end will be because of a table leg!" he exclaimed as the blood gushed through the tube embedded in his body.

Izumi pushed off the ground and crawled under the wall he had built from desks, his right arm exhausted from the deadly fight.

"We did it! The amount of blood he's lost means the wound is fatal," Migi said.

"Impossible! A disgusting, cowardly human attacked me!" the man said, defeated, his gaze fixed on the blood pooling around him.

"What!!!" Izumi gasped, watching from a few meters away as the man took a few steps forward.

"Wait, let's see what he intends to do," Migi suggested.

Drenched in his own blood, the man began to walk away from Izumi, his face swelling rapidly, forming bubbles ready to burst.

"I have to stop the bleeding; there's an artery near the heart." The man halted, placing his left hand on the tube lodged in his body. With a forceful push, he drove the tube through his back, successfully halting the blood flow.

"I understand. He pushed the tube through his back to stop the bleeding. Our work isn't over yet. Come on, Izumi, finish what you started," Migi urged.

"No! I've had enough!" Izumi shook his head, refusing to do what Migi asked.

"But we can't leave him like this!" Migi insisted.

"If we go too far, I'll become a criminal," Izumi said, turning away from the man and shouting.

"He's not human," Migi observed, watching the man stumble away.

The man managed to escape during the discussion between Izumi and his host, leaving a trail of blood with each unsteady step he took, leaning against the wall as he staggered through the building's corridors.

"Could a human kill me? Me?! That's unbelievable, it's illogical! This would make me the worst among my kind," the man muttered to himself aloud.

Suddenly, he stopped walking and leaned against a door, his face transforming completely from what it had been before. It turned bright pink, then pale, with wrinkles emerging—an alien visage on a human body.

"I have to move; I don't know if this will work," he thought to himself.

"Tamiya, I'll share the host with her. That bitch left me all alone!!!" he exclaimed, resuming his search for Professor Tamiya.

Meanwhile, police cars arrived at the university building in moderate numbers, including Takashi, Izumi's father. The father and the police team began entering in small groups after reviewing the building's map.

"Just five more meters…" The man reached the room where Tamiya was, hoping to share the host with her. He opened the door, only to be surprised to find Tamiya preparing to escape through the window. He quickly took a step toward her…

The room exploded with him inside.

The man didn't realize the trap Tamiya had set. With his first step, he tripped over a metal wire slightly raised off the ground, falling to the floor amidst a foul odor that filled the room. It was phosphine gas (PH3), flammable and taken from the university lab. Tamiya cast him a final glance before tossing a lighter into the room, resulting in a deafening explosion.

Despite their relationship, Tamiya couldn't overlook the fact that he had broken his promise to her not to come. The man risked everything due to his obsession with eliminating Izumi and Dekim, posing a genuine threat to Tamiya's social standing. To prevent anything like this from happening again, she left it to Izumi to eliminate him, refusing to assist him in that fight.

"Come on, Migi, return to your normal form so we can leave," Izumi said.

"Don't you want to go after him and see if he's dead or not?" Migi replied.

"No! The most important thing is that we saved everyone here," Izumi insisted. Migi took the emergency exit but coincidentally ran into Izumi's father, who had also chosen the same route along with a couple of other police officers.

"Izumi!!! What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be outside with the students?" his father asked, placing his hands on Izumi's shoulders to ensure he was okay..

"Ah, right, I was supposed to be outside with my classmates." Izumi's mind came to a halt; he hadn't expected to see his father in such a situation.

"You look terrible! What happened to your school uniform? Where's your tie? Where are your glasses?!" His father bombarded him with questions without waiting for answers, eager to reassure himself about his son's well-being as he circled around him to check if he was alright, noticing the torn sleeves of his school jacket.

"Take it easy, Dad, I'm fine. No need to worry. I tripped while leaving due to the rush of students and fainted. I must have lost my glasses when I fell. I'm okay. What happened to the intruder?!" Izumi asked.

"He killed himself by blowing himself up in one of the corridors of the building," his father said, pulling his son into a hug.

It seemed that Izumi had successfully passed the test with flying colors.
