Douluo Dalu 3 | Divine Destruction

Chapter 161: Two Paths to Prosperity

Things had ended quickly after Luslec's declaration. The Pagoda Master passed out nearly instantly after the declaration of domination and according to the remaining medical experts, it was a miracle he was even alive with so much deathly energy ravaging his body.

The battle was short, lasting barely longer than an hour, and yet the consequences were unending and would never be forgotten. The Spirit Pagoda main branch had fallen, much of their forces were dead, and the God Killers had been stolen. FUG was the victor and the entire world had lost. An unprecedented era of fear was upon them.

"Are you alright?" But Luslec himself wasn't concerned about any of it, instead, he dragged his crimson irises over his partner's body. A sigh of relief escaped him as he was once again assured that she was fine.

"I should be the one asking that. What were you thinking, pulling a stunt like that? Do you want to be punished by the universal order?" Rolling her eyes Yuena nevertheless allowed his hand to be entwined with her own. His final attack was risky but she had no regrets besides the fact that it placed Wulin under the universal order's watchful gaze.

In actuality, it wasn't all that dangerous either. Wulin clearly retained enough control over his blood to save her should he have to do such a thing and though she couldn't see it due to the close proximity to annihilation limiting her spiritual sense Yun Ming and Qiangu Dongfeng were clearly ready to jump into the fray.

However, being on the other end of annihilation truly was a scary experience. She had seen it used many times in the Dragon God's memories but to face it head on was different from seeing it used. However, it was also reassuring. Her creation would be able to snuff it out.

"As if I'd get punished for a drop of blood." Playfully rolling his eyes Wulin's expression fell slightly at the unsure eyes that had yet to leave him. "How much did you tell them?" Leaning close to his partner and whispering in his partner's ear, Wulin didn't break the awkward eye contact he had with his peers.

"Not much. I had to go get my body blown apart so I didn't have much time. Besides, you should be the one to tell them so get to it." Nudging her partner forward with an amused smile, Yuena wasn't worried about much. Secrets were capable of breaking even bonds as strong as theirs but none of them were foolish enough to say that everything must be revealed to one another. It was true that the severity of the situation made that null and void but by principle it was similar.

"Before I start making excuses, do you have any questions?" Motioning for them all to take a seat with a wry expression, Wulin felt more nervous than he did waging war against the Spirit Pagoda though not by much. And with how easy defeating the Spirit Pagoda was, he wasn't all too worried. He knew them well, their bond wouldn't break from just this.

"I have so many I don't even know where to start boss." Sighing as he fell into his seat Xie Xie bounced his leg endlessly to try to jump start his brain. Ironically there were so many questions he had been dying to ask that he couldn't just pick one.

"How does it feel being the strongest and the best blacksmith you damn monster." Frowning deeply Mu Xi crossed her arms as she sat. She wasn't happy about the situation. Wulin didn't explain a damn thing and that hurt. But it hurt more knowing that he didn't tell them because they were too weak.

"Not as good as you'd expect. It's hard being so good at everything y'know?" Scoffing irrately at his playful response, Mu Xi decided to hold her tongue. She had a feeling that her questions would get answered when he explained anyway.

"So the last three years you were injured because of the universal order?" Hesitantly speaking, Xu Xiaoyan was the most conflicted. Wulin wasn't sure why that was the case since he expected her to be the most excited but he nodded his head anyway. "So the heavenly tribulation that destroyed half of Skysea City was aimed at you?"

"Mhm. It only destroyed half the city because I dispersed the energy though so it took more damage than I did, don't worry." Wulin's words of reassurance were flimsy at best but it was the truth so there was nothing to be done. Better the city than him anyway. He made sure to go to an evacuated area anyway.

"Are you… alright?" Looking at her idol with worry swirling in her eyes Xu Xiaoyan was sincere in her concern. Wulin's eyes widened for a moment as he only now caught what eating her up inside. She was worried about him.

Reaching across the table that separated them, Wulin's large hand fell atop her head as a truly happy smile graced his features. "With you guys here, I've never been better." He was used to being held to standards higher than anyone, so high that people didn't even stop to consider whether or not he was okay. But she did. They did. And that was worth any amount of sacrifice.

Grinning proudly, Yuena leaned back and took in the sight. Wulin was a monster, more than she was even. Shrek may be the house of monsters but when you outclassed even the greatest monsters of history, even they began to treat you like one. And yet, here they could shed that burden. That alone was worth the world.

In the past, the Silver Dragon King dreamed of slaughtering humanity to pave the way to a future where spirit beasts could roam freely. Yet, with such a sight before her Gu Yuena was convinced that path was not the only one. There were more paths than simply eradicating one side of the equation. And if there wasn't…

Together, they'd make one.

Hey there, hope you liked the chapter.

I feel like I've talked about it numerous times already but it's an incredibly important topic so I'd like to mention it again. Wulin and Yuena stand atop the world and there is no denying it. They are young and they aren't yet the strongest but the fact of the matter is that it's only a matter of time until they are. The world knows that and so they're treated like anomaly's, monsters that the human mind can't comprehend. For Xie Xie, Mu Xi, and Xu Xiaoyan to treat them as humans, as their friends, is an invaluable experience for them.
