Enemies by Fate, Lovers by Choice

Chapter 8 – Shy

Mira immediately thought of Luna, who appears cold but is always surrounded by people. Luna always ends up as the center of attention and feels like the brightest star that can't be ignored, no matter what you do. She herself admits that sometimes she will be in a daze looking at her. Thankfully, people around didn't know, and if someone really saw her, they might think she's thinking something bad, as they are known as rivals.

That's what Mira thought, still not aware that her classmates have already analyzed her every action just to ship her with Luna. The same goes for Luna, which is why more and more people became interested in their interaction throughout the years.

"Is it a handsome young man?" Maria asked.

"No, she's a girl... she's the most beautiful girl I have ever seen, especially when she smiles. She also has beautiful eyes, but most of the time she has a cold expression,"

"Have you talked to her?"

"No, why would I talk to her?"

"You said she's the most beautiful, and it seems like you know her well. Isn't it good to make friends?" Maria suggested.

Mira hesitated, refusing to admit her true feelings. Eventually, she reluctantly confessed, "Fine, it's her."

"That's good. Does that mean you two are close enough to exchange gifts?" Maria asked excitedly.

Mira understood her mother's enthusiasm, but she clarified, "We're not mom, We actually don't like each other. We just happened to exchange gifts, that's all."

Maria felt a sense of hopelessness for her daughter but also sensed that the girl Mira's talking about was not an ordinary girl.

"Let's go to that area. There's a lot more over there," Mira suggested, wanting to change the subject.

As Luna listened, she froze in place with a blush on her face. She had not expected to be complimented by Mira in such a manner. Despite hearing many compliments before, she had never felt shy. The realization that Mira's mother was aware of her existence but not her name made her a little nervous too. She couldn't tell if Mira intentionally omitted her name or if it was simply unnecessary, but it brought her a sense of relief.

Luna took a peek at Mira and saw them coming out of the jewelry shop. She breathed a sigh of relief and tapped her chest, thinking, ' I lost my cool there, but hearing your so-called rival compliment you, anyone would be shaken, right? ... And in Mira's eyes, I'm the most beautiful.' Luna tried to reason but ended up thinking about Mira's compliment to her, it's unexpected that it seems Mira doesn't seem to hate her

Luna looked around with a smile on her face, the smile remaining until she met her mother at their newly established restaurant.

"Something good happen?" Lilith asked, surprised to see her daughter smiling for an extended period.

"What? Nothing, what's wrong?" Luna replied, puzzled.

Lilith pointed at her daughter's lips. "You have been smiling for a while now."

Luna touched the corner of her lips, realizing she had been smiling all this time. She felt embarrassed in front of her mother.

Lilith smiled and tapped Luna's forehead with her finger. "Now, you look like someone your age. Tell me, are you in love?"

"No! Mom, how did you even come up with such a ridiculous thought?"

"Hahaha, I'm kidding. But if you're interested in someone, I want you to know that I won't mind, and you better make a move faster so that no one can take that person away from you."

Luna understood her mother's words but found them strange, considering her mother had once said she never had deep feelings for any man before.

Luna nodded. "I know, Mom. Thank you. If I really find someone, I'll tell you. But don't expect too much as I still have a lot to do."

"Your graduation is just around the corner. Won't you help me manage our restaurant?"

"I'm sorry, Mom, but there's already a job offer waiting for me from X-Tech company, and I would like to focus on it."

"That's fine. Congratulations, baby," Lilith said proudly.

Luna smiled, thinking of telling her about getting first place, but she felt that Mira deserved it more than her.

"Thank you, Mom."

"Okay, you can eat now. You might be hungry. I'll have to go entertain our guests first," Lilith said as she went to welcome people.

Luna looked at the keychain on her phone, wanting to talk to Mira but unsure if there would be a chance. In the end, she ask for help from her friends and sent a message in their group chat.

Luna: Help

Tina: What's wrong?

Luna: I need help

Prima: What kind of help do you need?

Luna: Help me make an opportunity to talk to Mira

Tina: Are you going to confess?

Prima: For real?!

Luna: No! What are you guys even thinking? You too, Tina.

Tina: I'm just trying to make a joke...

Prima: ...

Luna: ...

Luna: Anyway, help me. I just want to ask her about something.

Prima: We can help you, my dear friend, but what's in it for us?

Luna: I'll treat you to the newly opened Japanese restaurant near our school.

Tina: Deal.

Prima: I hope you succeed.

Luna: Stop, I'm just going to ask her. I'm not going to confess, never.

Tina: ...

Prima: ...

Luna looked at Tina and Prima's replies with a blank face on her phone, wondering why her friends had such ridiculous ideas, just like her mother.

' I really just want to ask her for my peace of mind. It's not like I want to spend time with her alone,' Luna thought to herself. She then looked at the new necklace she had bought earlier, a silver crystal teardrop necklace that she found aesthetically beautiful and suitable for Mira. ' She will like it, right? It's perfect for any occasion and can complement any dress or suit. With her height and temperament, it's definitely a perfect match. '
