Chapter 9: CH 9: I already know what I want to be and now I'm a saintly level magician
It's been a few weeks since I showed Roxy that I can do silent magic and we started practicing so she could do it too.
That same night I was telling her about my knowledge to achieve it and how it's necessary to maintain a mental image of what you want to do, which is extremely necessary to progress.
Despite seeming like something basic that everyone does without even trying to do silent magic, it's incredibly difficult to achieve the point of only needing a mental image of what you want to do.
After that little lesson, I simply left Roxy to practice alone and only come ask me when she feels she's stuck on something.
Of course, so far she hasn't achieved anything, not even removing a word without the spell exploding, but hey, it was to be expected, if it were easy everyone could do it, right?
Also, it will be more difficult for Roxy because of her own mentality, until a few weeks ago she thought that doing silent magic was something that couldn't be done and anyone who told her otherwise without proof she wouldn't dismiss, that's the problem with conventional mages, their imagination is quite limited to the knowledge already researched, they don't try to innovate.
Unfortunately, Roxy is one of these mages, despite being a "genius" for reaching a level that many mages can only dream of, if the Saint rank isn't as easy to achieve as it seems, She is a little narrow minded.
On the other hand, my little new friend Sylphiette, I have to say that having a little shadow, I mean friend, has been a good idea and I'm very happy about it, because otherwise I think I would have become more antisocial than I already was if I had continued like this.
Of course I talk to Roxy, Paul and Zenith, sometimes with Lilia, but they are adults who watch their words, at least Roxy, Zenith and Lilia, Paul always finds ways to talk to me as if we were the same age, mine.
Of course she's still acting shy, but it was to be expected as I keep making fun of her, in a good way, whenever I can.
But moving on, I took these weeks as a relaxation of the mental space, although sometimes I would enter just to organize memories since nothing tires me, rather I feel better, my mind becomes more agile because of it.
That has helped me improve my magical learning and fencing, Paul said that I wasn't far from reaching the beginner level.
Honestly that's not something I care much about, I'm just biding my time to be able to train alone with a spear, I've already found several memories of my own of spear movements from my old world and from some anime.
And speaking of spears, I remembered that this world dominated by swords, doesn't like spear users... So stupid, right? And even more so for the reason, just because an enemy used it.
The superd...
Well, I guess it will then become my duty to teach this uncultivated world how great spears can be.
'Yes, that's what I'll do, I'll create my own spear style' - I thought, something like the style of the god of the penetrating spear or god of the celestial spear... Or the style of the god of the spear of the divine crew of the nine sacred heavens..
'Okay, that would be a shameful name' - I couldn't help but cringe at the embarrassing name.
Okay, ignoring that, this time also allowed me to decide what I wanted to choose for my specialty or profession.
I know, I know, I took a long time, a lot, I know, it was for a good reason, I doubt very much that without the mental space I would make any great progress in a short time with so many things I do.
And you'll wonder what I'm going to specialize in? Well, I'm going to become an... An enchantment mage.
Although to achieve that I'm going to need a lot, a lot of practice in controlling my mana, but hey, it's the same for basically all specialties.
The grimoire had a very long list of specialties/professions that I could choose from, such as alchemy, transmutation, golenmacy, among others.
But in the end I decided to focus first on enchantment magic, that will help me create my own magical artifacts.
I also chose it because of a memory of an anime called "Kenja no Mago" where the protagonist was a master in the art of enchantment.
Remembering that made me decide to choose it, although later I will learn more specialties, of course.
So in my free time I used it to read more about what an enchantment user is, saying the basics, an enchantment user is one who can add magical effects to an object or in cases of experts to other living beings, be they good or bad, basically as if I could bless or curse anything according to my desire.
And so to become a beginner in this art, I must first manage to infuse my mana into an object, it sounds easy, but the control that is needed is tremendous, because if you use too much mana it can cause an explosion and if you use little mana the mana will simply vanish.
It also reminds me of the Naruto world and its chakra training methods... Wait.
'Of course, why didn't I think of it before...' - I thought if I use those training methods then it will be easier for me to control my magic.
'Although unlike them I will need to use magic circles to achieve the same effects...' - I thought, but that doesn't discourage me because well, I already have a way to train my mana control.
Well then it's decided, I will train my control using those methods and the grimoire method which is simple, I just have to use a brush/pencil and a magic circle and expel mana until I achieve a certain balance so I can infuse my mana into objects.
If, nothing too difficult...
Leaving sarcasm aside, I've already decided what to do to practice so I just have to start.
[2 years later]
"Okay, attempt number 123 to climb a whole tree at once, begin" - I said as I put a serious expression on my face and started running towards the tree in front of me.
Before reaching the tree completely I lifted my foot and under it there was a magic circle stuck to the sole of my shoe.
My feet when touching the bark of the tree got hooked to it, I didn't care, I had already achieved this result many times so I continued and climbed the other foot that had the same magic circle engraved on the sole of my shoe.
I continued for a while, but shortly before reaching the end where I could bend and hook onto a branch, the pulling force of the magic circles disappeared for a moment, enough time that made me start falling from the tree.
Of course I wasn't scared, it had already happened to me many times so I quickly summoned a gust of wind in my hands that made me fall gently to the ground.
After my feet touched the ground, I couldn't help but sigh at the failure.
This had been happening to me for some time since I can finally climb trees.
'I have to say this is harder than I thought' - I thought, not sure if it's because of the difference between energies or because of my lack of talent.
Although I think it's more the former...
For good, if it were for talent then I couldn't even have passed the first level of the method, holding a leaf with the magic circle without it falling.
I literally spent a year learning to keep an object attached to me or in this case to my magic circle, and being able to lift it without it falling, after achieving it I started with something light like a leaf and then with something heavy like a big rock, that I could lift with my strength.
After that came another problem, I needed to learn to hold two things by both sides of the magic circle, because unlike ninjas who use energy directly from their body, I use it from a magic circle.
So after 6 months I achieved it and since then I've been practicing climbing trees, I have to say that at first I couldn't get very far, not only because of my low control, but also because I needed a different type of strength to maintain balance in my body while climbing.
Fortunately over time I've managed to gain enough strength to get far, although I still lack it if I want to climb giant trees and move from one to another.
But on the other hand and for the reason I started this training, I am now a beginner level enchantment user, almost intermediate level.
I have to say that the methods despite having the same goal, which is to improve my mana control, were totally different.
One, the ninja method, I have to keep an object attached to me or in this case to my magic circle, while the enchantment method, I had to expel energy and infuse my mana into an object.
I have to say it was difficult to achieve, but finally after 8 months of training I finally managed to infuse a rock with my mana.
Although shortly after this rock exploded, although that was to be expected, I was just becoming a beginner.
At this level I'm supposed to learn to keep my mana in objects without them exploding, that is, to synchronize my mana and the object's mana so that it doesn't cause a rejection reaction and end up exploding.
It's not that different from what I did to enter the level, but finding a synchronicity between energies is difficult, even with my visual ability, since with it I can see the mana of things but not at what frequency they are.
But hey, that's something I've already achieved, that's why I'm considered an apprentice in transition, now I just have to add an effect to the mana I'm infusing into the object and that it's in sync with the object's mana.
It's all pretty annoying, but thinking about someday having my own enchanted equipment makes it all worthwhile, and I start practicing with great enthusiasm.
Leaving that aside, important things have happened during this time, like the fact that I'm now a beginner fencer. It happened last year, Paul congratulated me a lot and they even threw a small party for me, but I didn't care, it wasn't a big achievement for me, honestly.
On the other hand, I started teaching Sylphy magic. It happened one day when I was bored with nothing to do, I decided to start playing with magic and it just so happened that Sylphy saw me and begged me to show her how to do it after she asked me how I did it.
It's been a year since then, for now I'm taking it easy with teaching her magic, although I've made her focus more on her wind magic than on water magic.
But well, that's what's happened in the last two years, now that I'm five years old they've already given me my first birthday party and to be honest, they gave me the same things as Rudeus.
Although Roxy's was different, she gave me something else since she had already given me the wand, although I don't really use it much, only when I'm taking classes with her.
Somehow it made me feel like a wizard like those in Harry Potter and that led me to try practicing some spells from that world, but there's really a problem now, I don't know many spells because I haven't read Harry Potter.
Thanks to organizing the memories in my mental space, I managed to remember the spells Lumos, Wingardium Leviosa, Protego, Expecto Patronum and Avada Kedavra.
Yes, I really don't remember practically anything and since I couldn't play that game that came out of Harry Potter, well, I can only settle for those.
And yes, if you're wondering if I managed to recreate it, even using magic circles for that, it would take me more years to simply try to recreate them with the magic from here.
"Kiel, are you ready?" - Pulling me out of my thoughts, Roxy asked me as she walked towards Paul's faithful steed.
"Ah? Yes, sorry Master Roxy, I got lost in my thoughts" - I replied hastily as I walked quickly to get on the horse.
Yes, if you're wondering then, yes, today will be the day I become a Saint-level mage, despite my desire to do it next year, since that will be the time when I can rank up again. Roxy thought I thought I wasn't ready or something, so she disagreed and said she was confident I could do it.
I didn't say it for that reason of course, I really think I can do it, despite not having the same amount of magic as a Saint-level mage like Roxy, I compensate with my density.
And if I'm not mistaken then I think I can cast about two Cumulonimbus spells before my tank empties.
But well, what else, it seems like Roxy really wants to leave, although I don't blame her, I also can't wait to be able to leave and travel wherever I want.
After all, I'm in a real fantasy world, with different races and dungeons, I want to see all that with my own eyes and maybe, get a harem of beautiful girls... Okay, that last one I'm sure I could achieve even without trying.
I'm strong and I'll get stronger and for that simple reason many girls will want me.
But of course just because of that I won't accept any girl, but I'm making my point.
And well, while I was lost in thought and chatting with Roxy, we arrived at a secluded area.
"Alright, now I'm going to use Saint-level magic. I can only use it once, so watch carefully and memorize it so you can use it later" - she said as she turned to look at me.
I nodded and then remembered that even though she has a greater amount of mana, she can barely use a Saint-level spell once.
She nodded and then stepped away a little, I then quickly remembered what happens in the anime so I quickly created a dome of earth to cover us and Paul's steed.
Then she began to recite the spell, using my magical vision to its full potential I could see the accumulation of mana in her staff, the weather around began to change rapidly to become a storm and then when she shouted - "¡Cumulonimbus!" - the storm gained strength, a lightning bolt struck and shortly after the clouds dissipated and the weather returned to a sunny day.
"Now it's your turn, you'll have to maintain the spell for at least an hour, if you succeed you'll pass the exam and become a Saint-ranked mage, do you remember the chant?" - she finally explained to me and asked, I nodded so she finally nodded and said. - "Okay, then you can start"
I nodded and stepped away a little as I began to gather my mana and began the chant, by now I've gotten used to reciting chants without dying of embarrassment.
"Grand spirit of water and imperial prince of lightning who ascends the heavens, grant my wish and bring about a savage blessing. Display your might to insignificant beings. Strike awe with a blow of your divine hammer on the anvil, and cover the land in water! Ah, Rain! Sweep all else away and expel everything!" - after reciting the entire chant the weather had already changed again to a storm and when I said - "¡Cumulonimbus!" - the storm gained more strength, similar to the previous one.
Needless to say, from that day on I became a Saint-level mage.
Roxy also left shortly after promising that we would see each other again soon.
I wished her a good trip and hoped she would be able to recite silent magic.
'Now, what will I do from now on...' - I thought as I lay down thinking about what I'll do now that I'm going to have more free time.
'Hmmm... I think it's time to gain some battle experience' - I thought, finally deciding after thinking for a while.
In the end I lack battle experience, because no matter how strong I am magically, without it even Paul could beat me.
And I can't let that happen...
====≠====≠====
Well, as promised, a long chapter, I could have finished it earlier but I had to go shopping, but I finally finished it.
I hope you liked it and now as he says he will do something that Rudeus didn't do, but should have done.
