Risotto's POV
- But know that I'm not exactly your enemy. It's more complicated than that. - Risotto's enemy said loudly and ran off into the alleys.
Risotto came out of invisibility and just stood still, looking in the direction the Spider leader had just fled.
The dust raised in the air by the recent battle had slowly settled. Within a twenty metre radius around Risotto lay a pile of rebar and knives. On some of the stones, small traces of blood could be seen, left by Risotto's recent opponent.
A light rain had started to fall. Risotto didn't really pay much attention to it and took his time to look for the others.
He walked slowly immersed in his thoughts.
'Gee. I was hoping to get answers to my questions in this meeting, but I only ended up getting more questions. A meeting with destiny? Isn't he my opponent? What is the meaning of all this! There are so many mysteries about this Spider Leader.'
While he was immersed in his thoughts he came to everyone else. They were standing near the entrance to the alley and looking around. The only exceptions were Illuso and Formaggio, who were sitting on the ground pressed against the wall. Also absent was Melone.
- Oh, there you are. We were getting a little worried. - Prosciutto said with a little relief.
- I'm fine. Better tell us what the situation is.
- In short, the situation is as follows: We have dealt with the opponents we met. We killed six bastards in total. Illuso in the looking glass fought an enemy who made a huge orb, and he had to take it to the real world. That's what caused all this destruction.
- Mm-hmm, I see. What about the rest of the Spiders?
- The rest of them.
- I was patrolling the fucking street, and then I heard a loud noise on the other side of the building. I was wondering if I should run to check what it was or patrol the assigned area. While I was thinking, I saw the fucking Spiders show up. There was a crowd of them. First they looked around, and then they stole someone's car that was parked on the street and drove off somewhere. I decided not to chase them, but to wait until the others came and then decide what to do together. They're almost all together, only that arsehole Melone is out there.
- I could have told you that myself, Giaccio,' said Prosciutto with a little irritation, 'We have to decide something. What shall we do next?
Risotto thought for a moment. The others looked at him in silence and waited for an answer. He looked at them all with his own eyes.
- That's enough for today. We're leaving.
The others weren't too surprised by those words, except for Kurapiki, who was rather taken aback.
- You mean?! What do you mean we're leaving?
- Like this. Look at Illuso and Formaggio. They're in no condition to continue fighting. I'm not going to risk going after the Spiders now. So we'll probably only continue the battle tomorrow, towards evening.
- But-but-but... But we've already wiped out half of the Genii Ryodan! We can't just retreat like this! If we retreat, we might not see them again! What if they leave tomorrow?! - Kurapika could hardly find the words to express his emotions.
- Don't worry about that. Trust me, they won't leave. - A voice came from the street. Everyone turned towards the street and saw Melone walking towards them with a satisfied grin.
- You mean? What do you mean they won't leave? - Kurapika asked in bewilderment. Risotto smiled lightly as he looked at Melone, who had already walked straight towards them and was standing opposite Risotto.
- So you got the sample? - Risotto asked Melone.
- You bet I did! It's from the guy you fought with. Lucky the rain didn't wash it all away.
Kurapika noticed Melone's hand. In it he held a small vial that contained a red liquid that looked like blood.
- Is that blood? - He asked Melone, and Melone only smiled in response.
Everyone else started to slowly pack up and go somewhere.
- Eh, where are you going? - Kurapika asked in confusion, hoping that someone would answer.
- Kurapika, - Risotto spoke to him, - Don't worry about the Spiders. They're not going anywhere. Thanks to Melone's ability, we'll be able to track them down even if they're in another city, or even a continent. In the meantime, let's go to the hospital. Formaggio has an injured arm and needs help.
- Well, if you're so sure. Okay, I believe you. - He began to speak with more confidence and calmness. Let's go to the hospital. You can get sick in this rain.
Together they went to the nearest hospital. Risotto walked on, immersed in his own thoughts, glancing at the others every now and then.
'Gee. Lucky no one has any serious wounds. Formaggio may not be able to continue the battle tomorrow, but Illuso should make a full recovery. To think we wiped out half the Spiders! For some Hunters, killing even a couple of them is a tall order, and we're almost done with them. However, I'm still worried about their leader. What does he mean then? What is his secret?'
Commentary on Retreat
It didn't come out particularly big this time. The next one will most likely be small too.
