Chapter 119: Chapter 119: Sneaking into the Girls’ Dormitory

"Ginny, what's wrong? You seem so out of it lately."

On Thursday afternoon during flying class, George approached Ginny, who was sitting alone under a tree.

Ginny, usually the most enthusiastic student in flying class, had lost her usual energy. She seemed distant, even during her favorite activity.

"George, do you think if someone made a mistake, but it wasn't entirely their fault, they could be forgiven?" Ginny asked, her tone filled with confusion.

George thought for a moment before replying, "It depends on how brave they are. Making a mistake isn't scary—nobody is flawless, not even Dumbledore. It's said he made plenty of mistakes when he was young. But if someone recognizes their error, takes responsibility, and corrects it in time, then they will undoubtedly be forgiven."

"Really? As long as I fix it, I'll be forgiven?"

Hope lit up Ginny's eyes at George's words.

Before the school year began, she had discovered a peculiar diary among her second-hand books. Whatever she wrote in it, the diary would respond, even offering useful advice. Ginny gradually grew to trust it, sharing her secrets and chatting with it daily.

But then strange things began to happen. She lost control of her actions and even opened the Chamber of Secrets, releasing the Basilisk to attack her classmates. Ginny realized the diary was not as innocent as it seemed and tried to dispose of it, tossing it into a bathroom in hopes the pipes would carry it away. Unfortunately, Harry later found it and brought it back.

Terrified Harry might uncover her secrets and her unintentional crimes, Ginny snuck into the boys' dormitory to steal the diary. Recently, however, she noticed she was being controlled again, leading to the Basilisk nearly killing George and Hermione, and Dumbledore being temporarily removed from his post.

"Oh, by the way, I got this bookmark for you during Christmas break in Diagon Alley," George said, pulling out a butterfly-shaped metal bookmark from his robes. "The shopkeeper said it can ward off dark magic and curses, and bring good luck to its owner. Here, take it!"

Ginny accepted the bookmark, a small smile finally appearing on her face.

"Thank you, George. I really like it."

"You look much cuter when you smile." George ruffled her hair playfully before standing up to leave.

As Ginny watched him walk away, she touched her hair, a faint blush spreading across her cheeks.

That evening, back in the Gryffindor girls' dormitory, Ginny placed the butterfly bookmark George had given her inside the dreadful diary. She hoped it would help shield her from its influence.

"Tomorrow morning, I'll tell Harry and the others everything," she resolved. George's words had given her the courage she needed.

At 2 a.m. in the Slytherin boys' dormitory, George suddenly opened his eyes and sat up. Picking up his wand, he quickly cast three spells in succession toward his roommates.

"Stupefy!"

Although none of them had a habit of wandering the halls at night, George wanted to be thorough. Ensuring they remained asleep was a necessary precaution.

Quietly leaving the Slytherin dormitory, George stepped into an isolated corner outside the castle. A magical array briefly flickered on his body, and his frame expanded into a figure taller than the average adult.

He pointed his wand at himself and whispered, "Stunning Transformation!"

The pajamas straining against his enlarged frame instantly morphed into a sleek black outfit, covering everything but his eyes. The spell, part of a branch of Transfiguration, was called the Clothing Transformation Charm. George had learned it from a library book titled How to Be an Elegant Wizard.

The spell allowed him to alter his clothing at will, eliminating the need for new outfits. While it lacked raw power, it was one of many spells created by wizards to make everyday life more convenient.

With everything prepared, George flipped his hand, summoning a broomstick. This broom, purchased during Christmas break in Diagon Alley, had been stored in his magically expanded pouch, hidden by an undetectable extension charm.

Why not use a levitation spell? Because tonight, he planned to sneak into the Gryffindor girls' dormitory to retrieve the diary, leaving no room for mistakes.

Mounting his broom, George avoided flying directly to the eighth-floor Gryffindor Tower. Instead, he circled the castle for over an hour before approaching from another direction to avoid detection.

Using the magnetic trace left on the butterfly bookmark, he quickly pinpointed Ginny's dormitory.

The stairs leading to all girls' dormitories in Hogwarts were enchanted, preventing boys from entering. To retrieve the diary, George couldn't enter from the common room and had to find another way.

On the other hand, girls could freely access the boys' dormitories. George himself had often been interrupted while studying by girls inventing creative excuses to "accidentally" enter, which was why he now preferred the library or a disused classroom in the dungeons. Ginny's previous success in retrieving the diary from Harry's dormitory was due to this very loophole.

"Alohomora," George muttered, pointing his wand at a window. Hearing a soft click, he pushed it open and slipped inside.

"Found it," he whispered, spotting Ginny sleeping peacefully. Using the bookmark's signal, he located the diary tucked away in a box under her bed.

"Gotcha."

Carefully pulling the old, tattered diary from the box, a smile spread across George's face.

The comments he'd made earlier were deliberate, intended to encourage Ginny to place the butterfly bookmark in the diary for easier retrieval. Otherwise, he would have had to search for it manually, increasing the risk of being caught.

Stowing Voldemort's diary in his magically expanded pouch, George retraced his steps, exiting the way he came.
