Chapter 146: Trouble Needs a Guide
Three days later | Western outskirts of Onarousa City
The black sun was high in the air as Bane, wearing a thick black robe, entered the city of Onarousa, but it was not what he had expected after seeing the shabby state of Cleaverland. This place was like a giant metropolis with hundreds of thousands of demons flying around on large bat-like wings.
It was strange to see so many demons with wings, but it didn't really bother Bane. He was just taking in all the sights around him, trying to spot somebody or possibly demons in the act of trying to kill each other, but there were just demons of all shapes and sizes milling about. There were places that looked like shops below tall apartment looking buildings everywhere Bane looked, and it really made him start to second guess himself.
'As I am sure you can tell, there aren't any visible weak demons here. Only the strong can live a somewhat normal life, even when the rest of the world is a complete mess. Still, this place is filled with corruption if you look for it. Not something I can suggest you go looking for. I think both you and I know you have spent more than enough time here... And I think you need to get back to the Village of Heroes. Those guys really need your help,' Onyx explained, and Bane perked up.
'Oh? Is my little elf giving everyone a hard time?' Bane chuckled inwardly, but winced when he felt a death glare from deep within his soul. Clearly his wife-to-be was being more than just a little shit, but just how much worse could it actually be?
'Your little tyrant and the other one are fighting over you, and destroying the town daily to the point that many people have just moved into the forest, and the scared monsters welcome them to bolster their numbers if the two ever get tired of destroying the village. You need to hurry up, and get back as soon as possible.'
In a flash, Bane could see the village in his mind, and he knew that Onyx was right, but felt very confused. Up till this point, Bane had ignored the other person that Onyx had mentioned, and was not sure how to feel about who he was watching fight with Lysia.
'Why the hell is Nina fighting with Lysia?'
'To see who gets to have you.'
'Oh, well, that seems reasonable, SAID NO ONE EVER! What the hell?' Bane complained.
'No clue. I was sure she only wanted you as a punching bag, but according to Eve, they started drinking. Both of them are stupidly strong, and they just repair the village each morning. Then the vicious cycle of drinking and name calling begins, and ends with village destruction by nightfall.'
'Wait, how long have I been gone? I haven't even been gone that long...'
'Almost 2 months, and they don't seem to be stopping anytime soon. I really hope you have a plan to fix this, or I am going to have to put my foot down,' Onyx threatened, and Bane laughed.
'I'll handle it when I get back, but first I need to find those three women. Where should I start?'
'The city is too big to try and search like you normally would. You need to ask for directions to the castle, or wherever the royal dungeon is. You really should have gotten directions from Ragna,' Onyx sighed, and Bane smiled as he made his way towards a random building.
"Excuse me, but I'm lost, and looking for a place called the royal dungeon," Bane asked a random woman passing by.
The woman looked over at him with a bored expression and sighed. "I don't know where that is, and it's rude to ask me."
"What about you?" Bane asked another demon.
"Me neither, but I heard the palace has dungeons," the man said before he turned around and walked off.
"Wow, everyone is being so helpful," Bane sighed, but then stiffened up as he felt someone appear from behind himself.
"I hear you are looking for a guide."
A hand touched his shoulder and suddenly, Bane's body turned to smoke, and in the next instant, he was standing on a large flat tar roof. Bane turned around and narrowed his eyes on the man in black cloth wearing a bird's mask.
"And you are? Is that really your face? Do you know where the palace is?" Bane asked, holding up three fingers. "Give me all three, and I will give you a cookie, and possibly not death, fleeting or eternal."
Gilbrax stared at the human, and smiled maniacally within his mask with wide eyes, before tipping his head back to laugh.
"I like you, human. If one could even call a monster like you that anymore. I can smell how much demonic energy you have absorbed, and I am impressed. Now, I am Gilbrax, but I am not a demon," Gilbrax answered, and Bane shrugged, putting down one finger.
"Blah, blah. Are you done yet? I really hope you don't take as long to answer the next two questions. This is not backstory time!" Bane growled, but Gilbrax burst into laughter.
Annoyed, Bane snapped his finger and 30 1st tier Lightning Strike spells condensed into a single tiny yellow spell ring at the end of his finger.
"Start talking, birdy, or I am going to make you dance," Bane growled, and Gilbrax looked down at him, removing his mask, and tossing it to the side.
"You wish to dance? I thought you would never ask!"
Before Bane could get a look at his face, the demon vanished in a puff of smoke. In the next instant, Bane felt a deep cut in his arm, but it healed in the next moment. The problem was that Bane had only felt the cut form; not what or who made it.
"Let's see how long your healing can keep up!"
