Wandering in Omniverse

Ch 49 – Porter

Brr... Brr...

Jason was sleeping soundly but the phone disturbed him.

'Who is the bastard disturbing me again?! Can't you let me sleep peacefully?'

Jason cursed. If not for the phone being necessary in the modern world, he would have broken it already.

"Hello, who is it?"

— "Hyung! It's me, Jin-Woo."

"What do you want?"

— "Where are you? Didn't you return back?"

"No!"

— "O-Okay. What about today's raid?"

"I'll be there on time."

Click!

"Who was it?"

Just as he put down the call, a lazy voice came from behind.

"Jin-Woo." He turned towards her and kissed Cha Hae-In's forehead. "Did I disturb your sleep?"

"I'm just about to get up anyway." She shook her head. "What did he say?"

"Nothing much. I just had to go for a little while?"

"Alright, take care."

Jason smiled and took a quick shower before preparing breakfast. As he didn't have time, he left a note for her before leaving for the meeting area with a portal.

When he reached there, he saw Jin-Woo greeting other hunters.

'The play had not started yet.'

He also made his way toward the place where everyone was gathered.

"One, two, threeee…."

Foreman Bae counted the number of miners present today and jotted it down on the memo.

"Eighteen, Nineteen, Twenty…. Well, it's almost everyone."

This should be more than enough. Well, it was fine for one or two to miss out on a day like today.

'Because we have three aces in our midst now.'

Foreman Bae's gaze met those of Mok Jin-Su, Jason, and Sung JinWoo.

It was then.

"Excuse me, Foreman Bae."

"Argh?! You surprised me!"

Foreman Bae flinched and shuddered grandly at the voice suddenly coming from his side.

Foreman Bae's resentful gaze was directed to the leader of today's raid team, Son Ki-Hoon.

"Aigoo…. My heart nearly stopped from fright just now, Son Hunter-nim."

"My apologies. It's a bad habit I picked up from working in the dungeons for
too long."

Son Ki-Hoon grinned sheepishly.

It was then, that the foreman of the retrieval team suddenly revealed himself from behind Sohn Ki-Hoon.

Jason watched them talking about things. 'Things are proceeding with the plan.'

After a few minutes, Son Ki-Hoon then addressed the miners.

"Is there anyone among you who wishes to accompany the raid team? Once the raid is over, we will furnish you the additional hazard pay immediately."

"….."

Son Ki-Hoon's pleading eyes darted from here to there, but no one stepped forward. Either they looked down at the ground, or stared at the heavens, deliberately avoiding meeting his gaze.

That would be obvious, really.

"Is there… no one?"

Son Ki-Hoon's expression became more and more crestfallen.

'This is going to be big trouble….'

Jason smiled and pushed Jin-Woo from behind and whispered. "You go with them."

Jin-Woo showed a dumbfounded expression. He couldn't understand what his big brother wanted but he was also interested and decided to raise his hand.

Murmur, murmur…

The surroundings got noisier. Son Kihoon also turned toward the cause of the disturbance. He spotted a hand raised up to the sky.

Finally, someone was applying for the job. Someone he had been waiting so desperately for.

Son Ki-Hoon's expression brightened considerably.

When Jin-Woo took a step forward, he became the center of attention.

"I'll do it."

A rank E Hunter wanted to enter an uncleared rank A dungeon!

Pure pandemonium broke out.

"Upper-rank monsters are waiting with bated breath inside, yet you wanna go in??"

"Mister Sung, what do you think you're doing?!"

"Mister Nie, you should stop your brother?"

Jason shook his head. "No need. The kid can make his own decision."

"Umm, what's his rank?" Son Kihoon asked.

"It's the lowest, E. But that's the best you can get."

Son Ki-Hoon's expression became grave right away. He stared at Jin-Woo for a
few seconds and spoke.

"Nope. I'm taking him."

...

Screech.

A black sedan stopped by the side of the road.

The man climbing out of the driver's seat kitted out in a pair of sunglasses and a black business suit was none other than Woo Jin-Chul, the section chief of the Monitoring Division, the Hunters Association.

Soon after his exit, three more men climbed out of the car from the passenger and rear seats. All of them were from the Monitoring Division as well.

It's already been a few hours since the raid began. Jason was waiting leisurely when he suddenly turned his eyes toward Jin-Chul as he felt the latter presence.

The four of them walked toward the mining team. Foreman Bae Yun-Seok hurriedly ran to meet them halfway.

"Aigoo, what brings the Hunters from the Monitoring Division to this place?"

The members of the mining team had been relaxing until then overheard those words, and tension briefly flashed in their eyes.

The oppressive pressure Hunters felt from the words 'Monitoring Division' was rather huge.

"What brings you here?" Jason stepped forward and asked.

"Well... you know..." Jin-Chul scratched his head. "I just want to see what are you both doing here?"

"Is it you or President?"

"It's me... Hmm. where is Hunter Sung Jin-Woo?" Woo Jin-Chul realized that Jin-Woo wasn't present there.

Jason pointed at the gate. "He's inside there."

Woo Jin-Cheol's eyes opened wider.

"Why did he enter the dungeon?"

"Well, the raid team's porter hasn't shown up today. So, he volunteered to be the porter."

"And you let him?!"

"Why not? Do you think with his strength, there will be a problem?"

"N-No... I didn't sa-"

Before he could finish his words, a powerful wave of magical energy crushed into them.

"Oh my god! Did you feel that?" Jin-Chul's face stiffened. He couldn't believe his senses just now.

Woo Jin-Chul quickly checked the information about the gate.

'Why is the measured value of the magic energy so low?!'

Jin-Chul's head began rocking from side to side automatically.

'The measurement results are wrong.'

"Hunter Hades, just now..."

"Yeah. The show must have begun. I'm also going inside to make sure the safety of everyone." Jason extended his hand and a pickaxe flew from the side into his hand. "Follow me!"

"Alright. Let's follow him."

"Pardon me?"

"You want to go in there, sir?"

Woo Jin-Chul's determination didn't waver, even for a second.

"If you're scared, it's okay for you to back out."

"N-no, sir."

"We'll go with you."

Woo Jin-Cheol nodded his head in satisfaction.

While they were talking, Jason had already stepped inside the gate.

Woo Jin-Cheol was running breathlessly to catch up with Jason but he was already out of his sight

"Pant, pant, pant…."

He ran so hard that he now tasted sweetness in his mouth.

He bent over and tried to catch his breaths, before raising his torso up – only to spot a familiar figure.

It's none other than Jason.
