You Are Deep in The Stars

Chapter 7 - The First Gift a Great KTV Day

After getting out of the elevator, Han Zhuo excused himself to go to the bathroom and called Daisy. “What on earth is going on?”

“Lawyer Zhang,” Daisy answered, holding the steering wheel with both hands and navigating through traffic, her tone serious. “I will get back to you about this case in half an hour.”

Han Zhuo was taken aback. Lawyer Zhang?

In the ward, Liu Chunchun admired the large bouquet of pink flowers and felt pleased. When Bai Xi asked about the driver who caused the accident, Liu Chunchun replied in confusion, “The driver who caused the accident? It’s Mr. Zhao? I woke up at six o’clock, and he hasn’t been here.”

“His car is downstairs,” Bai Xi replied, helping to pack things and prepare for discharge procedures.

“Maybe the wife is sick. Mrs. Zhao doesn’t look like she’s in good health,” Liu Chunchun suggested, feeling it was inappropriate and quickly adding, “I didn’t mean to curse her. However, Mrs. Zhao’s complexion has always been very poor, unlike those old square dance aunties who have a rosy complexion.”

Later in the evening, Yu Jiong and Wang Xiaosen also arrived breathlessly. Upon entering the ward, they exclaimed, “Oh~ do we also need to send flowers. With a considerate and romantic rich second generation like Mr. Bai here, we are truly destined to stay single in this life.”

“Has the house been tidied up?” Bai Xi asked, tossing a bottle of water.

“It’s done,” Wang Xiaosen confirmed, putting his arm around Liu Chunchun’s shoulder. “Don’t worry, your good brother’s taste will make your boudoir shine.”

“I’ll go,” Yu Jiong offered, his teeth aching. How could such an illiterate person be on their friend list? Was it the annihilation of humanity or the loss of morality?

“It’s done,” Han Zhuo announced as he entered with the discharge procedures. “Do you want to leave now?”

“Wait!” Liu Chunchun raised his hand while sitting in the wheelchair. “I have an idea.”

“Reject!” the others in the ward chorused.

Han Zhuo smiled and asked, “What do you want?”

As expected, Brother Han was the kindest, but it was useless for one lone person. Liu Chunchun hugged Bai Xi tightly, like a dog-skin plaster that couldn’t be shaken off. “I want to go to KTV.”

“Good brother, you are physically disabled. You can’t be moving around, let’s rest at home.” Bai Xi teased, kicking his wheelchair lightly.

“No, I promised to treat you last time. Now that I’m finally discharged from the hospital, I could go out with you,” Liu Chunchun lamented. “You all have jobs now, and we only get together on weekends. We should hang out while we can.”

“What do you mean, only us have jobs? When you’re healed, we’ll rush to get you into a lot of companies,” Wang Xiaosen joked, pushing the wheelchair. “Okay, okay, we’ll listen to you, but you can’t drink this time.”

Yu Jiong held a lot of daily necessities and went to press the elevator first. Han Zhuo asked Bai Xi in a low voice, “Do you really want to sing?”

“Yeah, Chunchun is soft-hearted and want to thank everyone for taking turns taking care of him for so long,” Bai Xi replied. “Let’s just relax with him.”

Han Zhuo nodded. “I’ve never been to a KTV.”

“Really?” Bai Xi looked him up and down skeptically. “I don’t believe it.”

Han Zhuo nodded, smiling. “Truly, today is my first time.”

“Okay, then every year from now on, today will be your KTV day,” Bai Xi declared, patting his chest solemnly. “Remember, we will invite everyone to sing and drink, and eat spicy crayfish.” It sounded like a wonderful anniversary celebration, much better than Valentine’s Day.

Mr. Han readily agreed.

.

With few cars on the road, the group quickly arrived at Jinyue KTV. Han Zhuo excused himself for a moment, claiming he needed to use the bathroom.

“What’s going on, Lawyer Zhang?” he asked Daisy straight to the point.

“Did you want to discuss this matter with me in front of the couple?” Daisy observed Zhao Yuejin and Mrs. Zhao in the restaurant through the glass wall, noting their formal demeanor as they stirred their coffee.

“Mom, I did ask for your help, but I thought you would at least discuss it with me, or at least inform me before taking action,” Han Zhuo expressed, gritting his teeth.

“Don’t worry, I haven’t exposed my identity,” Daisy reassured him, tugging at the hem of her skirt. “I am Lawyer Liu now.”

Han Zhuo sighed.

“You guessed wrong; there’s nothing wrong with that couple,” Daisy continued. “The person in question is their son-in-law, named Huang Jingyuan. I’ll send information about him to your email this afternoon.”

“Is he from the underground warehouse?” Han Zhuo inquired.

“If I guessed correctly, yes,” Daisy confirmed, taking off her gold-rimmed glasses. “And he may be a scientist, with a relatively high status.”

.

Meanwhile, in the private room, music blared, and Wang Xiaosen held up the microphone, belting out, “Am I the person you love most?”

Han Zhuo opened the door and entered, visibly shocked.

“Why aren’t you singing?” Wang Xiaosen asked him affectionately, reaching out.

“Okay!” Liu Chunchun cheered, applauding.

“Come over here,” Bai Xi beckoned to him. “Pick a song.”

“I can’t sing,” Han Zhuo declined, sitting down. “You guys go ahead.”

“No way, Brother Han, you said you can’t drink and can’t sing. How boring,” Yu Jiong remarked, clicking on the screen. “I’ll pick one for you.”

“I really don’t know how,” Han Zhuo admitted, turning to Bai Xi for help.

“How can we not sing on KTV day?” Mr. Bai teased, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Let’s make a deal. If you choose to tell the truth, I won’t force you to sing.”

Han Zhuo agreed, asking, “Okay, what truth are you asking for?”

Liu Chunchun raised his hand eagerly. “Have you ever had a girlfriend?”

“Tch!” Yu Jiong and Wang Xiaosen scoffed at the question.

Han Zhuo’s response was disappointingly straightforward. “No.”

“I don’t believe it,” Yu Jiong shook his head.

“Me neither,” Wang Xiaosen agreed.

Liu Chunchun chimed in, “I don’t believe it either.” From every angle, Mr. Han seemed like a prime candidate for love with his gentle yet assertive demeanor and attention to detail.

“Really, I don’t have it,” Han Zhuo affirmed, glancing at Bai Xi. “Well, neither have you.”

The other three sighed collectively. It was true, but Mr. Bai was an exception. He was a popular figure among the rich second generation, with a strong work ethic that put pressure on his roommates to excel in college.

Meanwhile, Liu Chunchun and Wang Xiaosen continued singing while Bai Xi and Yu Jiong played a drinking game. After a while, they surrendered, feeling dizzy.

“You lose,” Yu Jiong declared before promptly falling asleep on Liu Chunchun’s shoulder.

Han Zhuo supported Bai Xi and whispered, “Shall we go get some fresh air? It’s too stuffy in here.”

“Let’s go,” Bai Xi agreed, grabbing his coat and heading to the bar to pay the bill.

.

The KTV was located in a bustling area, with a pedestrian street nearby. Once outside the noisy private room, Bai Xi felt much more awake. Han Zhuo bought him another glass of sour juice, complete with a straw and a tissue.

Bai Xi chuckled and shook his head. “You’ll really put Aunt Li under a lot of pressure.”

Han Zhuo grinned. He glanced at the trinkets in the window one by one. “I’m quite afraid of her.”

“Of course, everyone in the family is afraid of her,” Bai Xi said quietly, “including my dad.”

Han Zhuo leaned down slightly and pointed. “Come, take a look at this.”

“Huh?” Bai Xi followed his gaze to a small music box. Inside, two figurines held hands in a crystal ball, surrounded by twinkling stars and golden-blue powder floating around them.

“The End of Starlight?” Bai Xi read the name on the trademark. “Do you like this?”

Han Zhuo nodded.

“Then I’ll give it to you,” Bai Xi said cheerfully. “Thank you for joining us at KTV today despite not being interested.”

Five minutes later, Mr. Han received his first gift from his employer, a dreamy, translucent music box full of starlight. The shop owner, a beautiful little girl, even tied a ribbon bow in the same starry sky-blue color.

“Are you hungry?” Han Zhuo asked. “As a courtesy, I’ll treat you to dinner.”

“You can’t just treat me, you have to treat the others too,” Bai Xi insisted, grabbing his sleeve and leading him through the old street to a Shaobing shop. “Come on.”

“Just this?” Han Zhuo glanced at the shabby sign.

“It’s a very famous, time-honored brand. There’s no queue because they relocated,” Bai Xi explained, taking out his phone to let the others choose their meals. But before he could take a picture, a person on an electric bicycle snatched his phone and fled.

“Hey!” Bai Xi was caught off guard and nearly fell, but Han Zhuo steadied him with one hand and swiftly threw the iron bucket from the Shaobing shop into the air.

“Ah!” Onlookers screamed and scattered.

After a loud crash, the electric bike crashed, sparks flying as it tipped over. The thief fell to the ground, clutching his legs and wailing in pain.

Han Zhuo retrieved Bai Xi’s phone, checked it, and handed it back. “It’s okay.”

The police arrived and took the thief away, while the crowd applauded the heroic act. Bai Xi turned to Han Zhuo, thanking him. “I’ll buy the sesame cakes!”

“I’ll treat you, it’s didn’t cost much,” Han Zhuo said, pulling out his wallet. “What flavor do you want?”

“Chili sauce with Egg,” Bai Xi replied, then added, “But this is the first time you’ve played the role of a bodyguard.”

“How well did I do?” Han Zhuo inquired.

“Ninety points,” Bai Xi praised him. As they waited for the sesame cakes, Bai Xi attempted to lift the iron bucket at his feet but struggled with its weight.

“So heavy?!” he exclaimed.
